Hit: Not buying anything so far. I know it's only the first day of the month but I'm itching to go to CVS and participate in the Shea Moisture B1G1 they have this week and I noticed that Target has the Yucca Masque still on sale for 5.99 (plus free shipping) but I haven't tried the one I have yet... Going to try and stick to my no-buy this month. I bought some stuff from Walgreens during their Shea Moisture B1G1 for my daughter's hair last week and that made me feel a little better

I see what you did right there...game knows game. :giggle:

Misses:
Smooth Naturals Amazing Argan Deep Treatment. It did absolutely nothing for my hair. I should have known that it might not have been good due to the lack of reviews. The ingredients looked good, so I took a chance. No slip or moisture. Gave it away.

Neutral:
Shescentit Riche Moisture. When I applied it, my hair just froze. No instant softness that I have come to expect from DCs. It also didn't give me a ton of slip; however, once heat was applied, my hair softened. I have to try it a couple more times to determine if it is a miss or hit.

Huge Hit:
Curlformers. I bought the knock-offs off Ebay and I used a total of 80 (my hair is DENSE). I have been looking for ways to stretch my hair without the use of heat so I decided to try Naptural85's method and use curlformers. Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to install. Although it was HELL sleeping in them, the results were amazing. My hair was smooth, silky and soft (my hair looked relaxed, not a coil/curl in sight). After I gently detangled, I was able to do styles that would otherwise require a blow-out. I plan on installing them every other wash day.

Miss:
ORS Wrap/Set Mousse-My Curlformer set came out gorgeous and my hair was soft with a delicate hold. And then......10 hours later my hair was a dry poofy mess. Granted, it was 90 degrees that day but there's no excuse for dehydrated hair.

Continued Hit:
SM Curl and Style Milk (Is that what's called? Ya'll know what I mean)- I love this stuff for the summer because it doesn't contain glycerine so my twist outs and WNG's stay defined with all the humidity.

I hate to derail the thread but @AgeinATL , what styles do you do on a detangled Curlformer set? Do you use any product? I attempted this last week but was worried that a moisturizer would cause reversion. I'm trying to explore super stretched styles and finally put my curl formers to good use. Sleeping in them was torture for my scalp though so I won't be air drying.

It's not as moisturizing as the smoothie, but it has way more slip and it plays better with other products (less chance of flaking when used with gels and the like).

That's kind of what I'm looking for. I'm going to start doing her hair exactly like mine: co-wash only and apply a leave in without cones/quats or anything else that's not easily washed off with a couple of co-washes. She was swimming a lot so I was shampooing her hair more after each lesson... her hair is very easy but I want it to stay hydrated all the time and less frizzy.

Thank you for the review!

@AgeinATL , I know what you mean about the Argan Treatment from Smooth Naturals. It worked best as a leave in but I didn't buy it for that purpose lol...

Huge Hit: Shea Moisture Professional Cowash Cleanser
Man, this stuff is great. Now that I'm shopping in my stash, I used it to cowash with last night. It made my hair soft and got my hair clean. I even used a little to leave in. Made my hair very soft. I don't mind alternating between this, V05, and the Purification Mask to cocleanse my hair.

On the fence: Shea Moisture Professional Leave In
I applied it liberally as the instructions said, my hair is very soft but greasy. I will cowash and apply again on Wednesday, but not use so much. I will say upon take down of my twists my hair felt kind of dry but once I was out and about, my hair kept getting soft. I'm assuming the glycerin in it was pulling in this humidity. Good thing I don't care about definition lol...

@overtherainbow
I can do flexirod and perm rod sets, bantu knot outs, twist outs, braid outs, etc. (a lot of these styles I got from Naptural's tutorials). I could do these styles on non-stretched hair, but it looks so much better on stretched, smoothed-out hair. I use Camille Rose's JAI twist butter as my moisturizer on stretched. If I need more hold with moisture, I use Bekura's Palm Tapioca. I don't have any issues with reversion with either product and both keep my hair super soft. I concentrate most of the product on my ends and work the rest throughout my hair.

@NaturallyATLPCH
I was hoping that it would work because it was not cheap. I liked the smell and texture, but it was such a huge disappointment. I should have tried it as a leave-in before giving it away!

I wish I had picked up the Shea Moisture Cowash when Sally was having the BOGO! Does a little go a long way? How is the slip?

Thanks for the suggestions! I agree, I prefer the look on stretched out hair. I just want to be able to see my length for once!

Miss
Jakeala Dope deep conditioner
I so wanted to love this stuff but it was not moisturizing nor did it give me any slip

Jury still out
Jakeala honey sweet thang hair mask - it was not as I expected on one hand my hair felt nice when I rinsed it out but I used it with the pink ecostyler and that did not work so well the next day.
Jakeala coconut milk I was combating the effects of the pink ecostyler so not sure if my hair was extra dry or if the product left my hair dry

Hit
Jakeala flaxseed hair juice this stuff I love my hair is moisturized and curly
Jakeala deodorant this stuff is awesome you still sweat - which is ok but you do not stink which is AWESOME
Both of these I plan to add to my rotation.

Hits:

Motions Straight Finish Leave In Conditioner and Heat Sealer Serum
  • Leave In Review: Its creamy and coats the hair very nicely. It doesn't leave any sticky residue and has some detangling properties. It also smoothed my strands which I loved the most. My hair usually blow dries quite easily, but with this product blowdrying was a peice of cake and only took about 35 minutes!
  • Serum: If you're looking for a good quality serum without the salon prices TRY THIS! It has a very silk consistency and it makes the hair feel the same way. My strands are so smooth once I apply it. Plus my hair is shines to the GAWDS once I'm done blowing it out.
Silks Dreams Shea What Deep Conditioner

YAS! is all that comes to mind when mentioning this DC. My hair was so smooth, moisturized and supple when I rinsed this DC. Whats surprising is the fact that I didn't suffer moisture overload. I put this on my hair and then sat under my soft bonnet dry for about 45 minutes. Due to laziness however, I didn't wash it out until about 5 hours later :giggle:. This DC does have a nice balance of both moisture and protein, so I shouldn't be to surprised. My only con is the consistency. Its a thick paste like consistency and remained that way even after adding oil to it. Other then that, this is a keeper. Silk Dreams DC's are just awesome in general.

No misses so far :)

@Ajna

Unfortunate about the "Dope" DC'er. How did you use it?

I have x2 Jars of this. I hope I will get better results with Steam, Dryer or Heat Cap.

Re: Honey Hair - Not surprising. That has Clay in it. Are you saying you used it as a L-I with the Ecostyler?

I hate to say....

Shescentit Banana Brulee was a huge miss

Shescentit Avocado moisturizing was a small miss. I may have been too heavy handed and failed to rinse it ALL out. Either that, or my hair doesn't do well with Aloe....

I REALLY wanted to love these.

I won't need shaving cream for a while.

Re: Honey Hair - Not surprising. That has Clay in it. Are you saying you used it as a L-I with the Ecostyler?

I used it with the plastic bag and sat under the dryer for about 20 minutes, I plan to use the rest of it by heating the conditioner up a little so it is warm then sitting under the steamer I almost always get good results that way.

As for the Honey Sweet Thang I used it in place of shampoo and conditioner which is what I normally do with a clay wash then to style I used a little leave in, oil and ecostyler - but like I said the culprit could have been the pink ecostyler - I switched to mainly botanical gels and I wanted a stiffer hold so I tried this gel

I will be sure to report back though in both cases hopefully the dope will wok better for you - everyone else seems to love it - maybe I just got a bad batch or something?

Banana Brulee never worked for me either
The Avocado was a great co wash

My hair despises aloe too. It makes it very very dry and lacking extreme moisture. The only way I can use it is in protein treatments.

Neither one of the conditioners you mentioned worked for me either...

I once had a nasty setback messing around with aloe vera gel. Clueless, I thought it's slick texture would give me good results. My hair had never been so tangled. I lost a lot of hair that time. The SSI Avocado has aloe and my hair tangled a little bit...then I remembered my previous episode.

^^^ Hold onto them for a bit and retry them at a later date. When I first sampled the Brulee and Avocado, they both sucked.

How did they improve for you...or what did you do differently when you used them later?
