I try to avoid it as much as possible, but some of my favorite products contain mineral oil. :perplexed

ITA. I just make sure to never ever put it on my scalp.

Mineral oil weighs my hair down and makes it incredibly nasty feeling. I haven't used it in months. Shea butter and hair mayo are my best friends.

Thanks. I tried Giovanni Direct and it left my hair dry and sticky.

This used to happen to me but then I was advised to dilute it with water and it's been on ever since!:)

I dont make any special effort to avoid it. The only thing i ever put on my scalp is MTG or BT.... but ill put anything on my ends, without even read the ingredients. :ohwell:

I avoid it because it makes my hair feel like plastic .and ill never put it on my scalp.....the one thing that i did like was Nacidit avocado cream conditionand rinse but its low on the list.. im looking to replace them tho

Me too! Well I haven't tried MTG (don't even know what it stands for...LOL and I'm tempted to try BT) Otherwise, nothing goes on my scalp!

yep...I dont use anything on my scalp besides BT and before that it was nothing at all. all of my products go on my hair not my scalp...thats asking for flakes itchy scalp and buildup :nono:

I don't avoid it purposely but most of the products I use on my hair don't contain it. I have a couple of items with mineral oils in them (Mizani H2O products). I love the products but don't use them daily. I probably use twice a week on my ends only. I have no problem with mineral oil.

I only do it if its a "black product" or a cheap product and close to the top on the ingredients list--like the top 3-5 (becuase thats about 70-80% of the entire product)
Because they of course use that as a cheap filler, make alot of money off of it, and claim that it will do things that they know mineral oil cant

I don't avoid it and haven't had a problem with mineral oil. Most of my favorite products contain it. I make sure I put it on my hair not my scalp, and I clarify often.

I do, but then along comes Nacidit, Proclaim Aloe&Shea, and Keracare Humecto. I limit it to dc that actually work for me and I use alter ego garlic on my scalp when I dc, so I keep it off of my scalp.

Nope I don't. I don't use a lot of products that have it though. My hair loves Nexxus Humectress, Sallys Generic Nexxus Humectress and now Nexxus Humectin. I also use Proclaim Shea Butter & Aloe conditioner. My hair has never been happier.

I'm usually okay with mineral oil as long as it's not one of the first two or three ingredients listed. Petroleum is the one ingredient I try to avoid as much as possible. My hair hates it.

Although, I don't make a special effort to avoid it...

1. I don't apply it to my scalp
2. I only use it on the ends/hair

I didn't know the specifics about mineral oil until I viewed the threads/posts on this site.:yep: I recently began to read the ingredients of my products.:look: Now, I'm more self conscience about it being contained in the ingredients, whether it's 2-5 on the list & where to apply it.

The only time I will focus on avoiding mineral oil is in my deep conditioners. Deep conditioners w/MO leave my hair coated, and keep all other moisture from entering my hair (and makes my hair feel dry/crispy after styling) Other than that, I don't really look, I just use what works, and I'm pretty sure I have quite a few daily moisturizers that contain it.

I think it's impossible for me to avoid it completely. It depends on what other ingredients are in the product as well. If weird products are mixed with mineral oil they make my hair break off.

I avoid it, except for relaxers. Any product that has mineral oil in it, no matter how far down the ingredient list, it makes my hair feel yucky.

I made the mistake of throwing out all my products with Mineral oil after joining this board, thinking it was hurting my hair. I think its to each his/her own, and just because it "hurts" your hair doesn't mean it destroys someone else's. Its like the whole Oil Rinsing train--- just because it works for you doesn't mean everyone else should do it. Mineral Oil isn't evil, its not petroleum, and it won't hurt nobody. It's not made in a factory, its just as good as soybean oil in my opinion. IMO, they both don't compare to EVOO or Grapeseed oil or any of my favorites for that matter. They both do just about the same thing for me. Now if they replaced mineral oil in products with EVOO or Almond Oil I think I would do backflips, but we know this won't happen, so I take what I can get.

I was mad at some of the advice I got at LHCF at one point because I didn't realize one of the BESt conditioners I have used (Motions Moisture Plus or whatever) had mineral oil. I threw it out, thinking it was the reason I was having hair problems... I readily got rid of Pink Lotion long ago because the stuff is just plain trash, and other STYLING products that have mineral oil typically don't attract me now that I am transitioning. However, when I was fully relaxed.. these products worked better on me than they do now that I have 3 inches of NG. But CONDITIONERS that have mineral oil have never really hurt me, in fact I rushed to the store to get some Motions conditioner last week and am so relieved I did. I would never use Motions as a leave-in, because it would coat my hair, but as a deep conditioner it seems to do the trick. I really wish I had never thrown it away, because I haven't experienced breakage once since I got back to using it.

Anyway, bottom line, I don't avoid it in conditioners, but I would never use it daily (because the ONLy oil I would use daily is ORS Olive oil moisturizer)

I try to avoid it for the most part.

I do have a few products that have it listed as an ingredient that I like for my hair ( Sunsilk Anti Poof 24/7 Creme and Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti Humidity Styling Cream).

I will continue to use them too unless I can find a cheap alternative product which will keep my thick hair from getting poofier throughout the day.

It took me a year and a half into my haircare journey to figure out that my hair does not do well with anything that has mineral oil in it :nono: so for the past few months I've been avoiding all products with mineral oil in it like the plague....my hair is now flourishing!!! :yep: On the sneek move I tried to use my mineral oil laden products on my daughter's hair.....her hair was like "naw sis dat ain't gonna work  ....NEXT!!" :lachen::ohwell: so I didn't have any choice but to throw all things mineral oil in the trash. :ohwell: Her hair is doing pretty well also. :D
