I don't photograph my hairstyles too often, but looks like that'll be changing

Can anyone tell me how to keep your hair from matting in a bun? I feel like i tried just about everything i could think of

Napp I can't bun straight from the shower because my hair will tangle somethin fierce. I have to let my hair dry at least most of the way loose before I can put it into a bun.

^^ wow really? hmmm...maybe stretching your hair first is the key? like in braids maybe? and what type of products do you use when you bun?

EnExitStageLeft thanks for starting the thread doll! Can't wait to see all the luscious buns! Here's how I did my hair today

Like a braid out bun? i havent tried that recently but i think my hair might be a bit too short to pull it off. I tried braiding the ends and my hair tangles in the braids. I just recently tried doing one single braid and was really surprised at how the center of my hair just matted together. I usally use a thick creamy conditioner to slick my hair down.

I wonder if you need a heavier product like pomade or heavy butter...how do you detangle?

It's kinda like when you are transitioning how important it is that your roots don't dry shrunken...it sounds like your hair in the middle drys extra shrunken, like you aren't getting a good enough stretch first...does that make sense?

Great idea to have started this thread EnExitStageLeft. I'm a constant natural bunning lady but my buns are so boring that I guess I will have nothing to show here but I'll be lurking for sure!!!

i tried that :ohwell:

The inside gets dry and tangly after a day or two

get an applicator bottle and put a good juicy moisturizer in it mixed with some oil. ( a spray bottle will work too but now that I am natural I need that applicator tip to get down in the rootage!)

mine has aloe vera gel, KKKT, Hot Six Oil and enough rosewater just to get it to squirt . i try not to make the mixture too wet...more oily if that makes sense?...i apply this to the roots to keep the hair juicy and to keep it from matting.....

i have to take my bun down every 3 days though and run some Whipped Jelly through it or else.....hurricane "Knots" rolls through:nono:

I like bunning by collecting all the hair by the ends and sort of, pushing the hair inward, into the center of the bun. I pin the ends down around the center, and they don't tangle. So the hair buns upwards and is pinned in, instead of wrapping itself downward.

And don't mind the lopsidedness on the pic, I pinned too much hair in on one side :look: So I just pulled at it a bit and voilà.

OK so I did a wash n go, let it dry and then smoothed my hair into a bun. Let's see how it holds up during the week. I think because my hair is ”sealed” in curls already the hair won't tangle in the bun
