Hi guys,

Just thought I should share a tip with you.

LOW BUNS TO STRETCH HAIR ARE AMAZING! This is my natural hair, just stretched over a short period of time with shea butter and absolutely no heat.

Low buns can make hair appear flat at times, but it's okay just shake it out!

Thanks.

Very nice. Do you have a better pic? It is kind of hard to see. I thought you were tailbone. Did you cut?

FroReal - my hair is un-straightened here, I don't use heat. Normally to show true length I manually stretch with one hand, in this picture you can see my hair is still in it's natural state, stretched with a low bun but still not at it's full length which last time I checked was tailbone. I just wanted to share a quick effective tip. I'll probably do a length check soon :)

My hair is Type 4 so in this picture my hair is still very much tightly coiled and kinky although it's so stretched.

Inspiired - can you show us a pic of your hair while in the low bun?

Also, do you comb out your hair before putting it into a bun? How long does it take for your hair to dry?

Thanks for sharing Inspiired your hair looks lovely. Is your hair in big twists while in the bun? It sort of looks like a twist-out/bun-out combination. I'm gonna need some more hair to do a bun out. For everyone else that's asking, a bun out is just one big bantu-knot at the back of your head. It's my ultimate goal to be able to style my hair w/one big bun-out. Simple, yet elegant- beautiful look that accents the natural texture. I can see your natural coils/clumping :tears:.

Hi virtuenow, sometimes my hair is in twists but for the picture above, it wasn't. Would you say a bun-out is similar to a doughnut bun?

Yes, a bun out is where the hair is wrapped around itself. When you have long hair and not use a donut piece, the donut is achieved through wrapping the hair around and around and then tucking. Like this:

virtuenow - oh yes! Thus is exactly what I do without the donut piece! I'm currently on my iPad but when I can I'll look for a close up pic on my phone :)

I usually air dry my hair in a braid, then bun on dry hair for one day. Gets it straight with a little bit of texture.

Congrats!

Is it possible to post a less blurry picture? It's hard to see your hair in the first pic. Maybe someone can take the picture for you.

I agree that stretched buns help retain length.
