This past Saturday, I relaxed my hair after a 16 week stretch. It was also my one year anniversary of joining LHCF, so I thought I would celebrate and flat iron my hair. Well, after an all day process of relaxing, protein treatment, air drying, yada, yada, yada, I flat ironed for the first time in a year.
Well, I didn't realize how much my hair stayed shrunken despite relaxing, so I was ecstatic when I realized how far my hair had come and how shiny and healthy it is. Best of all, how much it had grown!! BTW, I did take pics to show my sister (who led me here in the first place), but I am not wearing a shirt, so no, I am not posting them . Well, after having my hair in a bun or a french twist for a year, I decided to wear it down and swang it for a couple of days. Yesterday and Today, however, I noted several, several broken hairs. I believe it is mostly because I could not keep my hands off of my hair, it felt so silky. But I also got concerned and decided to do Aphogee 2 minute. I always use neutralizing/chelating poo my first hair session after relaxing, just to make sure any traces of residue is gone. I slathered in aphogee, waited the allotted time, then wet it real quick and proceeded to apply shampoo. When I went to rinse, I discovered I had no hot water  DH goes to the basement and discovers the flood from the hot water heater, which Im pretty sure is going to have to be replaced ($$$)....and all I could think was, "I got to rinse this off my head AND DC or all my work is GONE"!! :nono:
So I did it.... with ice cold water (it is 30 degrees here)...and it hurt like you wouldn't believe...but I did it, for the sake of my hair...I am now heating water on the stove to rinse my DC.

Anybody else do crazy, irrational stuff for the sake of their hair??

Yes, we love our hair. We will go to lengths to protect it. This is why we own all of this stuff and use it to keep it.

Lol I'm currently using MN cream...its really embarrasing..I'm home on break for awhile and staying with family, I don't want them to think I have "problems" down there and have to explain myself :spinning: so I usually wait to everyone's asleep or no one's around, grab it from my purse (I keep it in a small pocket where no one is likely to go, just in case LOL ) and randomly start applying the Monistat and rubbing my scalp all fast before someone pops up...smh It's definately working though, so I'll keep it up :look:

I'm starting to believe that most of the things we do for our hair are now the new normal.

Haha how annoying. Same happens to me all the time at university, we try not to spend too much money on the hot water so I have a lot of cod showers.

I think the biggest thing I do for my hair is the fact that I always bun and have done for years, tbh I'm not a fan of it anymore. I think it makes me look like a boy. So I end up sacrificing my happiness for my hair. Time to start enjoying my hair I think.

Awww, that sucks but it was a cute story the way you told it.

Yeah, when we moved into our new house the gas company had not turned on our gas at the time they said they would.

The water freezing cold.

Well, I had just taken DS swimming at the splash planet to decompress after the move and I needed to wash my hair post-haste and deep condition it (although I had it covered and slathered in conditioner it was still damp from the chlorine water). I rinsed it out in cold water at the house but I needed to do a deep conditioning and that doesn't work on my hair with cold water. So I checked into Hilton and paid $120.00 just so I could use their room for 3 hours to pamper my hair. I then checked back out at round 11:00 p.m. with my hair wet and in a bun. The desk guy looked at me crazy when I gave him the key so I had to explain so he didn't think I was a hooker.

When I BC'd I hid my hair from dh for a year! I would go into the bathroom every night (and lock the door) to M&S or wash n DC .
