Are products that contain cones the only way to get slip while trying to detangle or moisturize? I was trying to eliminate them all together. Are there some that are better than others?

No cones are not the only way to achieve slip. Cheap silicone free condish's like VO5 and Suave are silicone free and both have a lot of slip. Also their are DC's that supply a lot of slip as well, my personal fav's are Aubrey Organics Condish's. You can also add oils to the conditioners to up the slip factor a bit, or if you have a DC that does not offer the slip that you'd like you can add a cheap condish like the ones I mentioned to it to up the slip factor.

HTH's!

I dont think suave or vo5 silicone free conditioners have great slip.

But Tresseme Naturals DEF does. Try it & you will like it.

I tried one of the VO5 moisture milks a while back and my hair no likey. It made my hair feel like straw lol. I've been eyeing the Tresseme line since I used to use their regular conditioner back in the day. I'll definitely try adding some oil to use up the conditioners I already have. I don't really need any new ones but my inner PJ is coming back out.

I second Tresemme Naturals. Trader Joe's conditioner is supposed to be comparable but I haven't tried it. Giovanni conditioners are great too and have plenty of slip. Kinky Curly Knot Today is an excellent detangler but I don't care for it as a leave in. All of those should be cone free.

Products that have behentremonium methosulfate at the top of the list. Don't worry - this isn't the sulfate that makes poos sud & dries your hair out. It is an emulsifier usually derived from oil & it gives great slip. Some of my faves that have it are Oyin's Honey Hemp detangling cond & KBB's Sweet Ambrosia leave-in. HTH...

Another thing, let your conditioner soak in for awhile before detangling. I rarely use conditioners with silicones and I have no problem with detangling.

I agree.

Oyins Honey Hemp has alot of slip. Its smells really good & makes your hair feel great. Plus you dont have to use alot so the bottle lasts a long time IMO.

Honey Hemp is my favorite but I wanted to find a cheaper alternative & that's how I started using Tresemme naturals. Honey Hemp is even better than Tresemme

Grapeseed oil helps increase the slip of most conditioners. I also second the suggestions for Tresemme Naturals. It's an excellent cone free conditioner.

Just chiming in to concur that most Giovanni conditioners have no silicones and a ton of slip. I use their Nutrafix Reconstructor for my weekly DCs and their Direct-Leave In for my creamy leave in. But the slippiest conditioner by far that I've used is Trader Joe's Tingle Treat Conditioner. It has zero cones and the comb just glides through my natural, 4a hair like nobodies business. I use it to co-wash and as a matter of fact, I need to pick up a couple of bottles for tonight's co-wash...

These suggestions have me hopeful. I may wash again sometime this week since I was going to avoid it because my new growth is acting some kind of way right now

Not sure if it has cones or not, but I also love Trader Joe's Nourish Spa conditioner and so does my hair! I haven't used it in a few years though. I also love Aussie moist but for the past few months I haven't been able to find it and it is a staple for me. I think all of ya'll are buying up all the conditioner because there's always plenty of shampoo and not one bottle of conditioner.

#teamcowash.....lol

Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deeper Moisture conditioner!

I bought the Giovanni Moisturizing Shampoo Friday and picked up the conditioner but put it back because I wasn't sure if it was any good. I love the smell of the shampoo though so I'll have to get the conditioner this week.

I agree with many things posted previously ---

-Aubrey Organics offer great slip - I especially like HSR and WC.
-I dilute AO conditioners with water and use it as a daily spritz.

-Behentremonium methosulfate offers great slip.

-Slippery elm and marshmallow root tea offers great slip - I use them for tea rinsing.

-Oil rinsing with wheat germ offers great slip to the hair also.

When you do tea rinsing with the elm & marshmallow root, do you use them separately or together? Do you have a recipe or do you just make it like you'd make a normal cup of tea?

Also, how do you oil rinse with wheat germ oil? My hair loves it & I would love to include it in another way. TIA...

I tea rinse with them together and separate. Most times I'll use them separate but if I'm trying to be fancy, I'll combine multiple teas together.

No true recipe but....
I microwave water until it boils, remove from microwave, submerge my tea ball in the water, let it sit for about 30 mins. Some ladies like to steep longer for a stronger blend but that's not my preference.

1 tea --- 1 teaspoon and 8 ounces of water
Multiple teas --- 1 teaspoon each and 8 ounces of water

I only steep 8 ounces of water per wash session since I only wash 1x weekly.
