I did a search and didn't come up with anything, so don't come in here starting no shenanigans.

Where are my ladies that workout daily or very frequently? I know we have a health and fitness forum, but I'm speaking to the maintenance of hair. I workout every day on my lunch break, and the hair struggle is (or can be) real. Just looking for input.

As of late I've just been doing wash n go puffs because it works and I don't have to worry about sweating or getting my hair wet in the shower, etc. I want to try braid outs but I'm not sure how successful that will be.

So what are you ladies doing? What products are you using? What's your go-to style?

Just looking for feedback from fellow fitness buffs (or something like that, LOL).

Thanks in advance!!

I was just thinking about this last night so I need to see what some of the responses will be. I wear a wig as my PS & my hair is super dry underneath when I get home & I M&S every other night. I'll be doing some kinky twists on Friday night (long enough for a ponytail) to see how that helps out because I work out on my lunch hour too & a wig is not working. :nono:

Not quite a gymrat, but I work out 3-4 times a week intensely.

I sweat heavy and all in my scalp, so for the most part my hair is in a wash and go bun. When I do straighten my hair, I resign to not work out for the next three days, then I work out again, maybe getting another two days of my straigthened hair in a bun/high ponytail, but I don't do that often since dried sweat is damaging.

After workouts now, I've started throwing on my half wig..probably will continue that through the cooler months.

I workout 3-4x a week.I workout in the morning so my hair is usually in the two big braids I went to bed with when I workout. I used to co-wash daily, but now I co-wash on the days in between workouts. I have been putting my hair in a bun/ponytail/updo or two french/dutch braids/cornrow or twist/braid around the crown of my hair.

Pfft.

I work out six days a week doing insanity. I've finished the program but am in repeat mode.

I have to wash my hair every day because I sweat too much for any other option.

I wash, deep condition, and use protein once per week. I use the Garnier Fructis sleek and shine anti frizz serum and wrap (I'm relaxed) with a mesh triangle scarf and sleep next to a small fan on my night stand. It's usually dry by the morning because of the fan. Comb out and go...that's all I got. I'm BSL currently working on MBL and beyond. I don't have a scientific basis for this but I think my hair grows faster when I'm working out.

Your subject had me immediately go "wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!"

I am in twists. I don't sweat much when I work out so I don't need to wash my hair every day I work out. I wash my hair twice a week and that seems to work. (I should also mention I don't work out every day :look: or even regularly enough to be in this thread. :sekret: ) But if I did sweat a lot, it'd not be a problem to me to wash my hair daily. Takes me about 10 minutes from shampoo to ACV rinse if I'm not DCing. No combing. No tangles.

I'm not working out a whole lot right now but my twists are my go-to style for working out. I used that style to workout 5-6 days a week. I can swim, run, bike (makes my hair fit under the helmet :) ) I would just deep condition every 1-2 weeks, twist with a butter. A good thing to do is to use a spritz with water and peppermint or tea tree oil to help freshen the hair up.

My hair is really short, 4b and I work out 4 days a week. Right now my hair is in finger coils and that works ok. When it gets longer will be putting it in twists.

I can't imagine trying to work out a lot and wearing my hair out. I think puffs and buns work well for working out a lot. I work out in the evening so wearing an out style would work ok because it would just be put up immediately before or after working out.

If I was working out mid-day I would just stick to the puff since it would end up that way anyway.

I wear my hair two-strand twist 95% of the time, unless I'm going out to an event is the only time I wear my hair lose. And even then, my hair is in a up-style (puff). I would have to blow my hair out to have it "hang" and I'm not using heat right now.

LOL I workout about 5x a week. I alternate between a bun and a half wig. I pre-poo wash and DC about once a week, I don't straighten my hair. I usually airdry, sometimes if i'm in a rush ill dry the roots on cool so I don't have to go out with a wet head.

I dont sweat heavily in my scalp, by the time I've showered and dressed my hair is barely damp.

ETA: sometimes if my scalp is funky and I cant wash then, I'll mix some tea tree and mint EO in some water and spritz my scalp/roots.

currently I workout 5 - 6 days a week. no issues with hair maintenance. I wash my hair on average every 10 days.
when I was relaxed I would cowash mid week at the gym before work.

I really dont sweat much in my head so I dont have hair maintenance issues. I sweat in odd places (i'll start sweating on my wrists and shins before even my face)

and with the program Im doing now its mostly weight based so no buckets of sweat to deal with

Dang, I must be the only one who sweats heavily in my head. My hair is soaking wet after more than 45 mins. When I'm wearing a twistout/braidout my style is pretty much done after a workout. The front of my hair (looser area) looks like a blowout after my workout. If my hair is in a WNG I pull it back into a low puff and leave the front section out but it always gets all in my face so that isn't working. I think I'm going to try a pineapple and see if that works.

I workout 4-5 days/ week and how much I sweat depends on what I'm doing. If I sweat heavily I do a quick co-wash and bun afterwards. If not then I co-wash once weekly. I bun a lot or have cornrow extensions- these are the only hairstyles which are workout friendly for me.

6 days a week here! 4b natural (just chopped off relaxed ends AGAIN a couple months ago) and I sweat like a pig. I wear my hair cornrowed under a wig. I wash and deep con weekly, but will cowash my braids 1-2x a week depending on how they feel.

Since my last set back, I've been keep it simple. wash with sulfate free shampoo and deep con with a combo of Bumble and Bumble Quenching and EVOO. (Co wash I use Suave shea butter and almond). I blow dry once a week using Got 2 Be's heat protectant and I use Blue Magic hair grease to seal. so far, so good. Fingers crossed

I can sweat very heavily depending on the intensity. On a lower intensity day if i don't sweat too much i won't co wash. If my hair is straight i'll do lower intensity or plan it around a break in exercise. Most days I just co wash and bun but some days I'll do a braidout to wear the next day. I've tried tying my hair down with a scarf but i can never remember to do this :)

3-4 times a week kickboxing, so I sweat profusely. But all I can do are braidouts for the week, flatironing would be a waste of my time. It's hard to cowash during the week because I get home from kickboxing by 9:30 and have to get up for work at 6. I only have time to shower and get ready for bed.

I don't sweat that much from my scalp. I run 12 miles and there is barely sweat coming down my face, but my body is soaked. I always wash on long run days, but don't if I run less than 6 miles. I just suffer through until the next non-workout morning and co-wash then.

I workout 5 days a week. I sweat a lot in my head so I cowash about 3 or 4 days a week shampoo once or twice (dc after) I did a flexirod set last weekend n I was surprised my hair lasted 3 days working out. Other than that I put my hair in a bun when I workout. And usually I'm wearing a hat. After I workout I wash/cowash, seal, then let it dry in 4 big plaits or twists. Then I take them down when dry or diffuse/blowdry on low when I'm trying to hurry. Then there's also a wet bun.

When my hair is straight I pin it up w/ a clip because for me a ponytail makes things worse. I also do workouts at home instead in front of my fan (sit ups, lunges, etc) I still sweat but I do "lighter" exercises.

Oh yeah my bad for any punctuation/spelling errors. On my phone.

No gym rat, but I do Hot Yoga 2 times a week. I'm a 4b natural, so ill just put 6 or 7 big Kizzy style braids in.

I'm actually protective styling for the next 3 mths, so it works out fine. Plus I don't sweat that much on head or face.

I just bun, I'm head sweater and only time I can really where my hair out is not to work out. that's not an option for me.

I've been working out 5-6 days a week for now and I sweat a lot from my scalp and face. I'm transitioning and always wear my hair in a protective style bun. I have been washing and conditioning once a week; I go to the hairdresser every other week now since I'm transitioning without BCing for detangling, deep conditioning, blow dry and deep moisture treatment and back into my protective style.

I've been wearing a big natural phony pony (I bought a couple of them so they'll never look raggedy) over my little bun for work. It's nice enough for the office so I really don't have to focus much on my hair. I'm trying to leave it alone to let it do what it do and focus on getting this weight off.

Ogoma are you training for a marathon by any chance? I'm planning to Start training for a 1/2 come January and I'm thinking I'm just going to live in buns till race day.

I was training for a half. I completed it two weekends ago and have seriously slacked off since then . But, I am running another half in late spring and a triathlon in April so I am back on the training grind soon.

Good luck with the training. My friend is running a half in Jan. I wonder if it is the same one. Do you participate on the LHCF Running thread?

I do 5 to 6x a week. Cardio makes me sweat from my scalp a decent amount. I shampoo once a week and refresh my scalp with a spritz and a scalp massage after my workouts. My hair seems to be fine.

Congrats on completing the half!! I'm slightly terrified because I can barely complete a 5k now lol. I didn't realize their was a runners thread though. Thanks for the tip, I need all the info I can get!

I workout 4-5 days and the locations vary between the gym, home or work. I either bun or French braid or phony pony. I have to do a midweek and end of the week wash due to the intense scalp sweat. If I'm rocking a fresh relaxer I love a long pony in the gym.

Now that I can fit my hair into a decent bun, that's my go to workout style. I end up cowashing every day (or every other day) and then bunning at night.
