@Nonie how often do you dust? How much do u cut during a dusting? I trimmed my hair about 2 weeks ago but now I feel like I'm getting new splits and ssks. I do wear my hair unstretched almost 100% of the time. So that may be the reason, but my hair doesn't coil tightly. My curls are about pencil to crayon width., (except in my unruly patch in the back which is about 3c)
;16092361]I stopped getting them as frequently by keeping my hair (especially the ends) moisturized and stretched. I also dust every three to four months.
As others have said, WnGs always lead to knots for me. Have you tried sealing your damp ends with a light, yet lubricating oil?
;16092507]@faithVA I mean keeping my hair stretched. If I'm wearing twists, I'll seal with castor oil and tuck the ends into a bantu knot. The weight of the oil keeps my hair curled a bit, but the ends stay smooth rather than frizzy; for me, less frizz = fewer knots. If my hair is loose, I can do the same thing with nightly braids or twists, but I'll add gel to lessen the chance of frizz on the ends.
I hope that makes sense... I'll look for the photos from my Fotki.
ETA: In the second row of this album, I have photos of the ends of my twists in need of moisturizing, and my twists after moisturizing and sealing. I hope the visual is clearer than my words.http://public.fotki.com/nelle11236/bbbh/newly-nappy/2012/january-2012/
I understand. That's interesting. It doesn't seem to matter what I put on my ends. They still seem frizzy.![]()
Now that I think of it I never remember having ssks as a child and my mom kept my hair braided and used grease bb supergroidk

Same for me, braids and grease. When I first when natural, I used Sta Sof Fro for 5 years with my twa and never had an SSK.
