I just found that i have single strand knots in various places on my hair..what can i do to get rid of them??? and prevent them?

Oh yikes... I never had that issue...
but when my hair gets real tangled/matted...
I just dump a whole bottle of Suave Tropical Coconut...
rock that for 30 minutes and detangle in shower with Jilbere shower comb
maybe you should use a smaller comb perferably seamless

Girl, if you can figure how to totally avoid them, you'll be a heroine. You can reduce them by not wearing your hair out as much, and keeping your hair VERY moisturized, otherwise, they are a natural side effect of hair that coils around itself.

i find that as long as I detangle often, they stay at a minimum. but ill never completely get rid of them unless I relax. Single strand knots sometimes comes with the territory of being natural or having excessively curly hair. Some people them cant stand them and end up going back to relaxed hair if nothing seems to work...it doesnt bother me much anymore so I try to ignore them.

I think that's just a part of being natural with super curly hair. I try to keep my hair stretched to minimize tangling.

i never wear my hair out..its always in a protective style. maybe its because i have only been fingercombing? i guess i could throw in a comb out 1x a week and see how that goes

Yeah... try the Jilbere shower comb... or only comb in the shower...
I hear some people have major setbacks when they try to go days or
weeks without detangling with a comb... it's a must if you want to
avoid that drama.

ur fingers do not remove all shed hairs...i called myself never using an actual comb for 3 months and my hair suffered. shed hairs caught on to and tied around my unshedded hair and formed ugly knots.:perplexed thats when I invested in a denman and it literally saved my hair. its about 50/50 on what people think about the denman brush on this board but it has done wonders for my hair.

When I first went natural this really bothered me. I would trim off those single strand knots like they were poisonous. But that was costing me length. :ohwell:

Usually those knots happen on the ends of my hair. What helps me to avoid them is to take great care how my ends dry. I can only comb my hair when it is sopping wet with water followed by tons of condish. After I comb out a section of hair, I most always wear it in cornrows. I twist the ends so that my hair forms a little spiral, a little coil that looks just like a penspring.

Having all the ends laying in thier natural hugged up position keeps my hair from getting snarled around itself. I hope that made sense :drunk: If you are doing wash 'n gos, well, you will just have to accept the knots. WNG's are the debil for natural hair :imo:

yup this is me :lachen:.... daily detangling is a must for me. and I twist my hair up before bed. I think knots form the most when you lay down with your hair all over the place and the ends become matted and packed together. Im seeing tons of legnth progress so wng's are dobale if you figure out a routine that works to keep the knots at bay:yep:

I have had several styles such as twists and even a sew in on freshly trimmed ends. When i removed them, I still had knots so I just came to the conclusion that it will knot regardless. The only solution for my hair is to always wear it straight which will eventually cause dry split ends (id rather have the knots) or relax:ohwell:

I agree. Keeping the hair well moisturized helps those knots keep from forming or it lets them slide out of the hair.
