Geez, 8 passes? Was that even necessary? Not just about the heat damage, but it must have also taken so much longer to straighten all the hair that way. I do just 2 passes myself and it already takes me 1.5 hours altogether!

That "stylist" was a hot mess! She used too much oil, too many passes, her hair wasn't LAYED and on top of that she got heat damage.

I can't believe she sat thru that. Her facial expressions said she was pissed but yet she sat thru all it. That's why I'm a DIYer can't be mad at no one but myself.

I mean....dammit people!!!!!!!!

I would think by now that it's common knowledge that if you go to ANY salon and tell them to straighten your hair, that they will get it straight BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! That means if it takes 5 or 50 passes of a hot comb, flat iron or whatever, they will do so!!!

THIS is why I don't let ANYONE straighten my hair. I have the art of straightening my hair down to a system where I know how much heat I need, how big to make the sections, and so forth.

To trust a layperson like this is asking for trouble!! And if you're doing videos and on the forums and stuff you should know this already. I get so mad when I see people getting their hair damaged unnecessarily, but come on!!! When do we start learning from other's mistakes?

Ummm, why did she sit there through all of that? She looked angry but she didn't say anything to the stylist. I do not go to salons much anymore since they hate me. I take my own products (even to Aveda) and I demand that I get the service I want. I have not even had a salon use more than 2 passes on my hair, especially after a blow out.

8 Passes WITH both a hot comb and a flat iron??? And she wrote in the comment section that BOTH were heated by the stove? Oh no ma'am!

I couldn't even watch her get up to eight passes. That thing was smoking hot! I have never seen a hot comb smoking like that and being applied to someone's hair. I'm suprised all her hair didn't fall out.

This is a prime example of why you MUST speak up with a stylist is doing something wrong or that you don't like. She might have made it through 4 passes on one piece of my hair before I would said something.

Smh...

Personally... i would hand out an a** whooping :spank: to the hairdresser on the spot. Because i've gotten Dominican Blow Outs and had No heat damage....

The phenomenon called Pressing Paralysis or Flatiron Fugue-your hair is being melted by a heated appliance, typically applied by another person, and you are frozen into inactivity. I see it has claimed another victim. There is no medication for this condition, it can be avoided by only allowing your hands to touch your mf'ing hair.

Hair dryer heat (with comb attachment) + 8 passes with a hotcomb + 3 passes with a flatiron=a hot arse, nonreverting, mess.

Every now and then I think about treating myself to a Salon visit, usely have those thoughts when I am halfway threw detangling my hair LOL, then I see something like this and get snapped back into reality.

Her hair doesn't look terribly bad considering the amount of heat that was used.

I incurred heat damage like hers (random straight pieces) when I straightened my hair a few weeks ago.

I braided my hair and allowed it to air dry over night, used one pass with the flatiron to straighten it and then went back with an additional pass to curl it. Sabino Moisture Block was used as a heat protectant.

What's weird is that the last time I straightened my hair, I blow dried first and then proceeded to flatiron and I had no damage at all.

Absolutely! And as much time, energy, reading/researching, tears, frustrations and small victories we've experienced with our own heads, EVERYBODY is a layperson when it comes to YOUR hair! I don't care what school they trained at or how much experience they have or what celebrity clients they work on, they are a layperson to your hair. You are your own hair professional -- own it!

Do they no longer teach Pressing 101 in cosmetology school? That woman couldn't press worth a nickle. No paper towel, she didn't use the back of the comb to straighten the hair...and then she had the never to pull out a flat iron. And to add insult to injury, the press wasn't even cute!

She has a great attitude but I would like to know why she just sat there and allowed that woman to do all those passes. From the look on her face she clearly knew it was too much.

I cannot believe she did not stop the stylist. Two years of growth down the drain.

That's all I saw. I don't think her hair looked terrible. I just fear that breakage is in her near future (at least that is what happened to me). And at least she held herself accountable for what happened.
