What do you do after you have used heat on your hair? I notice that after I have heat styled my hair I end up feenin for conditioner and my PS after about 2-3 days lol. I feel like I may have caused some type of damage.

What about you ladies?

I'm relaxed, but I get the DC itch when I straighten too. It's just because I can't. When my hair is normal I'm itching to straighten so... Grass is greener and all that

I keep my hair straight for a week. I moisturise during the week with Vitale Olive Oil Moisturiser its like the ORS one but no mineral oil. I dont think its sold in the US though. I don't Moisturise often as I dont want very much build up as I won't be clarifying for another month as I clarified before straightening. I also protein the wash before and the wash after the period of straight-ness. I also wash after a week because my scalp becomes unbearably itchy.

I don't do anything. I do everything I need to do to add moisture to my hair during the wash before the flat ironing. Once I towel dry my hair, the only thing I use on my hair from then on is protectant. I stretch bare hair with braids or Curlformers, then I spray section by section with a spray heat protectant. Pass iron once. Then amooth narrow sections at a time with protectant serum and pass iron again. Finito! No other product touches my hair after that until washday when shampoo is the first product to touch my hair since the flat iron job.

Hair stays soft and I get no reversion. Did I mention that it has no smell of burning protein either? Not during the flat ironing, or after, or even on the day I wet it to wash it. Gotta love the clean hair no product but protectant way!

Yes I use a mousse or a spray.

I don't think mousse is a good heat protectant. I don't know what type of spray you use..but it may be because of the alcohol in the mousse you don't like how your hair feels. I use Paul Mitchell super skinny and Chi silk Infusion.

Yea I would not use mousse.

When washing and conditioning I make sure I deep condition then prior to blow drying I use a spray heat protectant and one n only argan oil (has silicones). Blow dry then apply more one m only argan oil and them flat iron. The last two times I didnt need to moisturize once it was straighten. However of I do I use Nuetrogena triple moisture and biosilk(or the Sally's version).

Thanks for responding :)

The mousse that I used is by smooth n shine and it is a heat protectant..its a new product.

I think its just a mind thing lol...my hair actually looks great afterwards but I always end up wanting to condition my hair afterwards just in case.

Same here after a few days and I feel like that not only is it dry, but wearing it out might mean damage so back into a PS I go.

I use Organics Olive Oil Serum as my protectant and moisturize everyday, I love my swang, lol

I use Silk Elements Olive Oil heat protection before, and then at night if my hair feels bad I use coconut oil and put the bonnet on, and it feels much better in the morning.

I DC on every wash day and I use grapeseed oil as my heat protectant which also provides a lot of moisture so after I flat iron I don't need to add any more moisture for the next 2-3 days. When I do apply moisturizer I use Essentious Daily Moisturizer.

Does anyone still use CHI Silk Infusion. I just flatironed my hair this past weekend and tried it for the first time and am totally in love! I will say that I may have needed something a bit heavier because I tried wearing it down on a mildly humid day and by the time I got to work---fizz central. What helps with reversion I guess is my question? Is the CHI stuff supposed to do that? Maybe I didn't use enough?

I blowdry and flat iron as part of my weekly regimen since I wear my hair straight 90% of the time. I always use a blow dry cream/heat protection leave-in before blowdrying, and serum before flat ironing (usually Giovanni Frizz Be Gone). I use L'Oreal EverStrong Overnight Repair Treatment nightly as a moisturizer. I bun, ponytail, or wear my hair loose just depending on the situation, weather, etc.

I don't use anything after I finish styling, but depending on what leave in products (conditioner and/or serum) that I use, my hair may not like it.

If your hair feels dry after only a few days then it could be a few things: 1. The temperature is too high 2. Your hair can't take both a blow dryer and flat iron 3. Your hair needs to be deep conditioned to get it's moisture/protein balance. Heat styled hair needs moisture and protein, generally. 4. Your product combination isn't right for heat. The less products (besides a heat pro), the better for a longer lasting, silky style.

If your hair isn't in the right condition for heat, it'll only make things worse. If you must use heat, try rollersetting then flat ironing or drying loose under the dryer and then flat ironing.

I can get 10 day hair before I start feeling like it needs some attention. I have gone up to 12 days without washing. I may add some moisturizer to my ends maybe once during that time. I wear my hair down often and I use heat at every wash.

Thanks your cheeziness, great advice :)

I don't blow dry at all. I wash my hair, add my leave in, gvp silk therapy, oil my ends and wet wrap with a big comb. When it dries, I flat iron it on 300 or under and wrap it back up. Next day, I just unwrap and go about my business. Flat Iron maybe once a week if that.

VK1K this is exactly how I think lol.

Yep, might be mental. Your hair looks great, moist and soft. And that's how my hair feels after use of heat.....but I still get scared :-)

Well, I wash my hair every 4 days, so I never experience dryness. If I blowdry and flatiron(which is rare) I use the same regimen when I rollerset. It's just something about the serum and foam wrap combo that makes my hair perfect every time. :)

Is grapeseed oil a heat protectant? I have flat ironed with it and it came out nice but I was afraid that somewhere down the line I would regret it because it was no protection so I stopped using it. I love the oil though.

when i blow dry (like in my siggy) i oil the ends nightly and place it into 2-4 large braids. after about a week i'm ready to pin it up though. i just put my hair in 20 braids so i can rinse them and then rock a fierce braid out.

I hear that, its exactly 7 days since my flat flat iron and I'm itching to dc!

I wish I could do this, and have been trying to for years, but my hair is dry, fine and flyaway. I need to add something to prevent it being a dry fluffy mess. So during my "straight hair" time I add Profectiv Megagrowth Breakfree and a touch of coconut oil each night and wrap it immediately. The key is to apply it lightly, and mostly to the ends and the wrapping prevents frizz. I smooth the wrap with a boar bristle brush and get silky results all week. You may add serum to this mix to reduce the chance of frizziness depending on your hair.
Now if I can just learn how to make it last longer than that:lol:

This is my hair after 6 days in the pic. Just flat ironed in the sig.

To answer the poll, this time I did both flat iron and blowdry. Usually I airdry and flat iron.

I blowdry and flat iron on relaxer day, and 2 weeks later after my henna treatment, and then I dont touch it again til relaxer day again (first 2 weeks wear out unless hot, rest of the time in a pony or a bun). Little manipulation as possible. The frequent washing was causing me loose alot of hair for some reason. My hair does best in straight form. I dont have any pics posted but my hair is almost bsl and this I found is what works for me. I tried airdrying only and airdrying and flat ironing, and sitting under dryer and then flat ironing, but always ended up w/ a tangled frizzed up mess taking forever and not getting anywhere as straight and smooth as when I blowdry. even roller setting and then flat ironing was just too much manipulation on my hair, so I just keep it simple. I use paul mitchell skinny serum, rusk leave in, and one and only flat iron creme and I am very happy w/ results. I moisturize as needed w/ he split end protector and seal w/evco.

Yes, grapeseed oil protects hair against heat up to 485 degrees! My mom, sisters and I all use it when we blow dry/flat iron. It also keeps hair soft, aids in growth and has some other benefits.

I blowout weekly...
Dont really do anything special I guess, just wash when I feel it needs it, do the same oil+condish pre-poo as always.
I dont really do PS'ing, am not a regular DC'er, and have been blowing it out for many years, so I dont feel any anxiety.
I feel more anxiety when I *dont* blow it out, like...'how will I ever be able to get a comb thru this again?!'
