Do you use a heat protectant?
I'm relaxed, but I get the DC itch when I straighten too. It's just because I can't. When my hair is normal I'm itching to straighten so... Grass is greener and all that
I keep my hair straight for a week. I moisturise during the week with Vitale Olive Oil Moisturiser its like the ORS one but no mineral oil. I dont think its sold in the US though. I don't Moisturise often as I dont want very much build up as I won't be clarifying for another month as I clarified before straightening. I also protein the wash before and the wash after the period of straight-ness. I also wash after a week because my scalp becomes unbearably itchy.
What do you do after you have used heat on your hair? I notice that after I have heat styled my hair I end up feenin for conditioner and my PS after about 2-3 days lol. I feel like I may have caused some type of damage.
What about you ladies?
Yes I use a mousse or a spray.
I don't use anything after I finish styling, but depending on what leave in products (conditioner and/or serum) that I use, my hair may not like it.
If your hair feels dry after only a few days then it could be a few things: 1. The temperature is too high 2. Your hair can't take both a blow dryer and flat iron 3. Your hair needs to be deep conditioned to get it's moisture/protein balance. Heat styled hair needs moisture and protein, generally. 4. Your product combination isn't right for heat. The less products (besides a heat pro), the better for a longer lasting, silky style.
If your hair isn't in the right condition for heat, it'll only make things worse. If you must use heat, try rollersetting then flat ironing or drying loose under the dryer and then flat ironing.
I can get 10 day hair before I start feeling like it needs some attention. I have gone up to 12 days without washing. I may add some moisturizer to my ends maybe once during that time. I wear my hair down often and I use heat at every wash.

Once I towel dry my hair, the only thing I use on my hair from then on is protectant. I stretch bare hair with braids or Curlformers, then I spray section by section with a spray heat protectant. Pass iron once. Then amooth narrow sections at a time with protectant serum and pass iron again. Finito! No other product touches my hair after that until washday when shampoo is the first product to touch my hair since the flat iron job.
Hair stays soft and I get no reversion. Did I mention that it has no smell of burning protein either? Not during the flat ironing, or after, or even on the day I wet it to wash it. Gotta love the clean hair no product but protectant way!

Yes, grapeseed oil protects hair against heat up to 485 degrees! My mom, sisters and I all use it when we blow dry/flat iron. It also keeps hair soft, aids in growth and has some other benefits. Is grapeseed oil a heat protectant? I have flat ironed with it and it came out nice but I was afraid that somewhere down the line I would regret it because it was no protection so I stopped using it. I love the oil though.
