Best products for Hair Breakage

@nicole625 the standard suggestion is to do protein treatments for breakage but imo that can make the problem even worse. My hair was breaking so bad (lots and lots of little ends) it was something i got used to and was ready to accept.

In my case i was using waaay too much protein in my hair (every single product contained some kind of protein and i didn't realise). All the Aphgoee products, mayonnaise and so-called moisturisers that actually contain protein and the dreaded glycerin and it's derivitives - my hair was just getting worse - but of course i continued their use because they are 'supposed' to help with breakage.

It took me too damn long (months) to realise this and i stopped all usage of protein and used a moisturising product line (i use Keracare and CON). It took 2 weeks for my hair to feel soft and breakage started to be reduced almost immediately.

Just 2 days ago i decided to use up a cheapie condish in my hair for detangling. Huge mistake. The label said Moisturising SOY MILK conditioner. My hair is def protein sensitive as now my hair is hard feeling, tangled and a few hairs have broken very easily. I can't wait until i can wash this out.

Does glycerin have protein in it?

Honestly I am a newbie, at least when it comes to posting. But since the start of my real hair journey (may 2010) my hair has been shedding like crazy!!!! I cried everyday... Then I read the boards and someone( I wish now I could give credit to this person) spoke about Mizani H2O strengthing treatment ( I believe that's what it is called) you apply it 2-3 times per week before bed.... Wow!!!! Did that ever change things. No more hairs in the sink!!!! I mean none!!! Believe me when I tell you I am a pj.... Trying every product known to man. But this did the trick. Please try this... It works.

I had to question myself when did my

Strengthening usually means a protein treatment and this is what your hair obviousily needed. I point out that you say it corrected your shedding, however the subject we are talking about is actual dryness and breakage, or did you mean breakage?

Mmmm i don't know, i know what it's function is though but my hair reacts instantly adversely to both of these. It is so obvious to me now that i kick myself for almost ruining my hair for months on end.

I'll have to do a search on that one.

My apologies.... I meant Short hairs, no white bulbs (breakage). A ton of it.

Inspiired I found this from an article talking out glycerin in protein bars.

http://www.getbig.com/articles/nutritionbars.htm

Glycerine is not fat since it has no fatty acids. Glycerine is not a protein since it has no amine group (nitrogen containing portion).........By definition glycerine is a trihydric alcohol and is the building block of all plant oils and nearly all animal fats......

It is an alcohol and ultimately it can have a drying effect!!!!

OK, so the treatment was a protein and that is what your hair needed. If you are still using this product regularly and your hair still feels soft then your hair loves protein. I can tell you now, i will not be putting that in my hair :nono:.

Which is okay... Like we all no from experience. Some things work for some and not others, I have a ton of products in my bathroom to prove that. I could open my own beauty supply warehouse. It's an option as it has worked for me, and may work for some others....

Happy hair growing everyone :0)
