1. I think this thread is a lot more informative and productive.
2. I BC'd after 10 mos of transitioning. I had a little more than a twa...it was like 3 inches shrunken, which is a lot.
3. After seeing all the perspectives I feel that BCing down to a TWA or close to it, or BC'ing BSL hair is BOTH a great accomplishment. For those cutting har down to a bald/buzz cut/twa, etc takes BALLZ per Lucie.
At the same time, I remember transitioning was a BEAST! I can't imagine spending all that time babying relaxed ends until my hair was way past SL, much less to BSL. That type of transitioning takes a lot of hard work. Whether you choose to identify 0 as bald or BSL/BC with no more relaxed ends, yes, identifying it, or including a disclaimer would help. Or at least say where you start. Either way, every1 is working hard to maintain healthy hair and grow it to their desired lengths. People who use growth aids ain't got it 100% easy either.
Everyone should feel proud of their achievements whether you retain 5" in a year (which is great), or less, or a whole FOOT of hair in a year! Amazing, do-able, and the woman who does that gets a hatss off from me too!

What we here at LHCF need to do is learn from each other's adventures, encourage each other when we win or lose (like...enter setback city), and stop throwing shade or giving someone the side eye when they claim a length, or mention they started from _____ as if its not good enough.....We all have lofty goals and are doing things the average sista would love to achieve...we are all breaking records here! Especially in our own circles, this country, everywhere....!
Be blessed.

This thread is productive. Now people know that it might be a good idea to be a little more descriptive....without starting too much drama...

I was also seriously thinking about posting a thread about the woes of my lack of hair growth/retention...because it's been 5 years natural for me (since my last relaxer) and I just made BSL. Funny though, the only reason I didn't post that thread is because, after some other drama that came from OP's thread, I didn't want a war to break out cuz some people might disagree that I'm at BSL <---- I don't wear my bra too low cuz I can't have the ladies saggin.

Me either girl! The "girls" gotta stay up!

I don’t know who you do or don’t cause problems for because I don’t know you. I do know that the mindset "people who big chop really want to be natural and people who do a long transition are just part of a fad" is flawed.

I used reference to sororities/fraternities for the same reason that people seem to elevate themselves and/or purposes for their actions according to their own assumptions and generalizations of someone else’s actions. Not everyone who big chops is sacrificing because they really want natural hair. They may be used to cutting their hair short anyway, may have severely damaged hair, or may have succumbed to peer pressure. Also, unless you have done a long term transition, you can’t really speak accurately as to whether it is a sacrifice or not.

Thank you for expressing my opinion. I often wonder why a coworker of mine constantly harasses me about just cutting all of my hair off. I now have some insight into what her possible reasoning behind it may be .
I also have the same freedom to express my opinion and that is what I did and will continue to do. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I thought fear of cutting hair was peer pressure - i.e. some people are afraid of what others will say if they cut their hair short hence the multi year transitions. I can't see hanging on to a couple inches of dead ends just to say your hair is xx" inches. That takes patience and not everyone has the time to fuss a lot with their hair. But to each her own of course. Never heard of women cutting their hair short because of peer pressure. Well maybe in India where hair cutting is tied in with some people's religious beliefs some people may feel pressured. But in the united states - and other western civ - I never heard of it.

O inches to me means the hair in my siggy.

And that's whether a person BC'd or last relaxer since I usually think the person means o inches of new growth. I just like for people to clarify so that I understand.

You may not have heard about it but it exists. People like to press upon others that there is no need to hand on to a "couple of dead inches". I have definitely heard statements directly such as "girl, do you really want to be natural or are you just playing?", "Why are you holding on to that white person's idea of beauty?", "What are you so afraid of?" and on and on.

The only person's opinion I care about is mine and my husband's. However, I have a niece who gave into that pressue from her sister and friends only to seriously regret her decision. From what I hear and experience, that is not an isolated incidence either.

diadall, I truly apologize if I misread your post. Your wording is confusing as I wasn't the only one who may have misunderstood your message. However, my main stance and I don't care who believes in this garbage is that it is not necessary to jump through hoops and loops to prove to anyone how bad you want to be natural. And, everyone's hair journey is their own and really none of our business to judge.

I wore natural hair for a few years and chose to transition. At the time, I felt to BC would simply be an act of pure impatience on my part.
(please note the usage of I, me and my in this post)

0-Sl at first glance = bald or bc. Never thought about a transitioning period until this thread.
