When a Person Says They Started Out "0" Inches........

IMHO, I've always thought 0 meant no hair, but maybe I am mistaken. Maybe I am missing something.

0" should mean bald or fuzz. I would also give it if the hair is less than 1/4 of an inch.

It could also mean when they started their transition, ie, if I'm 100 percent natural, I had zero inches of natural hair the day I got my last relaxer.

0" starts at the time of the last relaxer. Technically, there are 0 inches of natural hair at that point.

This is why I dislike when people say they are 1 year natural, but they have 2 years of natural hair growth. That transition period throws people off and it's not fair to newly naturals. Everyone should note the date of their last relaxer instead of the date they big chopped. That will end a lot of confusion. I've seen folks at BSL claim they have been natural 9 months and new naturals be like "daaaamn". They missed the memo that somebody transitioned.

At first thought I would think 0 inches means you started off with a bc that was less than .5 an inch as Kerryann posted, but I could see it also meaning starting out transitioning from a fresh relaxer as well.

When I BC I was having a whole Waiting to exhale moment and shaved my SL hair to bald ( I was just peach fuzz and scalp) from my view point it means that the person has little or no hair but I am guessing that everyone has a different viewpoint as to the actual definition of '0'.

That's the same thing I've been saying since I discovered natural hair videos on YT. How are you BSL after being natural for 7 months??? They never mention the date time when their zero time period started. that's why my siggy has always had the date of my last relaxer.

^^ i know right?!!? i used to assume 0" = bald (buzz/peach fuzz) and BC = bald as well.

i'm educated enough on BC now tho to completely ignore it since the definition is so flexible it really means nothing. some people's BC is 1-3" and just uhm... not even noteworthy in my eyes so i ignore BC threads now after seeing how many people BC down to shoulder or NL... from APL erplexed

until just now though, 0" has always meant 0"/bald ... so now i'm confused cuz clearly there's something else being referenced in this thread that everyone seems to know about but me

I've said something like this before when I was natural. I transitioned for about 2 months and cut off my texlaxed ends. All of them. I'd say I was natural since Feb 2009 (Feb 13 to be exact). My last relaxer was early Jan 2009. Feb 2009 is my start time.

I don't like when people leave off their transition time or just don't count it as if it never even happened. Like, "I've been natural for 2 years and my hair is grazing MBL." When I was new it was really discouraging, only come to find out later they transitioned for a year or two. 6-12 inches isn't dismissable, but some people like to fake the funk.

Initially I thought of a fade haircut= 0 inches but now that I've read other responses, 0 inches could be a fresh relaxer and 0 inches of new growth.

I transitioned for a year, so 0 for me is from the date of my last relaxer. Cutting the relaxed ends off does not affect your growth rate, so there is no difference be between actual baldness and zero new growth. Either way the relaxed ends are gone now and this hair started growing on my head 7 years ago.

I tend to say, when I'm talking to people about my hair, that I started from nothing because the beginning of my HHJ was the beginning of my transition.

Another thing, which I have noticed which was brought up here, is that some people never state how long they've been transitioning before going natural. It's kind of misleading.
