yeah, I cannot use them either. It took me a year to combat the damage that a weave caused...now I am back on my way to healthy gorgeous thick hair!

The growth rate doesn't matter. Your roots don't know what's happening to your ends. I retain less hair loss w/extensions but the growth rate remains the same.

I did not say the growth rate changes! :ohwell:

I am on the Crown and Glory, scheduled to take my braids out on June 1st, and I am itching to take these braids out sooner...like next week. I redid the crown yesterday and notices that a few strands came out. I don't want to lose ANY HAIR!! My question now is does the length of time you keep them in matter. Here I am thinking, I could get some extra growth...or something good out of another 3 weeks, but can I really? I will have to experiemnt with that. I just have this notion that I should take them out sooner, I just wanna put my hands in my hair

I just took out cornrowns that I had in for 1.5 weeks. I felt like they hindered growth for me. I got almost 1/4 inch on the sides and maybe 1/8 on the top...and I definitely got some scalp trauma too (scabs in some of the parts). I think I'm cool on cornrows...Individuals work better. All in all, I think I prefer my hair growth without extension.

My hair looks like it grows faster while the braids are in, but when I take them down my hair feels and looks thinner than it was pre-braids. so I don't wear them anymore.

I voted without. I can do my own braids but I'll leave them in for a week or 2. Also my ends just do well with braids. So it grows, but I don't retain it. I'm trying to work with my own hair this time around.

I think my hair probably grows better with extensions. But I've had some mishaps in the past where if I didn't moisturize or wash my hair underneath the weave then I would end losing a lot of hair.

My hair thrives both ways...Braids are nice because I'm not messing with my hair daily and the ends are protected so they aren't able to break from daily abuse. The KEY is to still take care of your hair while in braids...moisturizing daily, washing weekly, not getting them small, and not leaving them in longer than 6 weeks (for me anyway).

I'm going to be braiding again next month. For me the key is balancing a braiding and non-braiding routine to get through my relaxer stretch. Last stretch I baggied for the first 9 weeks then braided for the the next 5 then took out for 2 weeks and relaxed. I saw a noticeable increase in length. Next time I have to be more persistent with moisturizing my braids daily (I was bad last time and only did it when I remembered).

My hair grows faster/healthier without extensions. Extensions in my case are weaves (sew-ins and quick-weaves).

Like everything, there are pros and cons with both methods. The back of my hair shows more noticeable growth when in extensions but the front and sides suffer significantly. The result is uneven hair and for my fine hair, there is strength in numbers. The more even my hair is the better. The biggest deterrent is the scalp irritation that comes with wearing extensions. My scalp benefits from frequent washing and "breathing". It is very sensitive and dislikes anything touching it including wig caps, synthetic hair and tracks. Anytime I neglect this fact, I end up with sores and irritation which, of course, equate to hair loss. If I do wear extensions, it is for a special occasion such as an evening out or a holiday weekend (quick-weaves only like the one in my avatar).

I feel you Shine-On. My hair grows better without extensions also. I go through the same thing when I wear weaves and extensions. My scalp seems to be extra sensitive to kanekalon and synthetic hair, but I continuosly try to wear them to give my hair a break only to end up with a itchy and sore scalp. I just took out some flat twists that was twisted with kanekalon hair and the ends twisted up in a ball at the top. I tried to wear them for 3 weeks and dug a bobby pin in between the parts everyday to scratch my itchy scalp. I'm pretty sure I lost hands full of hair when I washed it out. My scalp loves to breath and be freshly washed several times a week. Even human hair seems to not quite agree with me. Phony ponies are the best that I can do when it comes to weaves and long as its not too tight.

Suri, take them out if your instincts tell you to...you could be causing more damage than good if your scalp and hair dont like the foreign hair, or there is too much stress on your own hair by having this hair pulling it down. I have no love for weaves, I think they damage, stress, weaken and pull the hair out - but that is my experience. It might be a totally different experience for someone else.

i cant say my hair grows faster, but it does retain the lenghth b/c i leave it alone...i only comb my when i take out the weaves and braid and that is mostly every 2 mos when i wear weaves, and a month or so, when i wear braids...since i have gone natural it has been working great for my growth..

My hair does pretty good in extension, becaues it is the only way to keep my fingers out of my hair...lol The rate is about the same, however achieving good goals with extension/weave depends on who puts it in.

My hair grows better with extentions... I think this is because I have no way of messing with my hair . since I'm 16 I always try to play in my hair to find a new style and I always end up with little hairs all over the bathroom sink and a sore scalp

I said "have not noticed" because I don't think my hair grows any faster per say, but I do think it helps me retain my length either way. I have hand-in-hair disease so bad I'm thinking of starting a support group. So, anything that keeps me from being able to manipulate my hair is great.

My hair grows "better" with extensions. I have better in quotes because really it's all about just leaving it alone. That is what helps my hair grow....to be left alone. It's the best protective style I have found.

Well I'm wearing my first sew in and my hair grew 1 inch in a month. It usually only grows 1/2" a month. That's a big difference in my opinion. I'm going to take my hair down in 3 weeks. I think I will have gained 2 inches all together. (8 weeks). That's amazing for me!!!! I usually get 1 inch in two months.

So I have to say at this time, my hair grows better in extensions....unless it's the biotin (laughs)

My hair grow faster without extensions. I don't leave extensions in long enough for my hair to grow. If I leave extensions in too long I would be brain damaged from hitting the top of my head all day to stop the itch:lachen:

i've only had extensions on once in my life. i only left the sew-in weave in there for a month and i didn't notice any dramatic growth. that was before i started my hair care regime though.

I think it grows the same amount, it's just easier to see the growth when I take it down.

I voted extensions because i saw more growth. But i havent really used them since i started healthy hair care b/c i tend to not take car of my hair cuz the weave is pretty

I voted, "I haven't noticed." I know that I see the growth when in braids or in a protective bun so I guess I broke pretty even regardless of my style method. My hair grows wonderfully when I wear cornrows with the synthetic hair added but...and there's always a but:lol: ... my nape suffers tremendously. It just breaks it right off! Right now, I'm bunning and that's where I have had the most success...whether its a phony pony or my homemade concoction.

Some other ladies shared their distain for micros and I'm with ya:mad: ! I've gotten them 3 times and each time my hair suffered so much. I have no clue how to care for them past one month and that's too much money to waste on a month long hairdo. Not to mention they destroy your hairline. It wasn't that bad for me but those little buggers did take a few from my hairline. I always lose length and volume of my hair with micros. I'll never get them again.

with extentions i have braids right now when it get warm i will wear a weave:) :) as long as i keep it clean it helps grow
