DH went to get his hair done today and the price has gone up, again.
He called to say it's $125 now:ohwell:

It started at $30 years ago, then went to $40, then $60 then $80.

September 2010 (beyond waist length in a couple of sections)

September 2011 almost full waist length (DH approved this photo)
He thinks his hair grew about 4 inches in a year (not the much talked about average 6 inches per year).

His hair is long... wowww! How long has he been growing his locs? What exactly is he getting done, just retwisting?

If that picture is from 2010, how long is Mr. Mane's hair now? It's so pretty. :spinning:

I've never understood the outrage for being charged based on length. It takes more time, effort, and products to nurture longer hair. *shrug*

Nobody mentioned any outrage.
:ohwell: This means "Oh well"

I have not taken photos of his hair in a while and am not sure of the length. However, he has not cut it.

He had locks when we started dating, so at least 8 years. He has not cut his hair in about 2 years. At one point he had it cut every few months.

He is getting a wash/condition and re-twisting (roots).
They also usually clip any fly aways from his individual locks.

Oh so it's YOUR hubby everyone was drooling over in that one thread! LoL

His locs look wonderful!

I also wonder if the popularity of natural styles is a factor in driving up the prices.

I offered, many times. He refused.

He likes his stylist, despite some of the gossip & drama at the salon and dealing with the flaky schedule. When he has ventured off to try others, he always ends up back at the same spot.

naturalmanenyc LAWD his hair is nice!!
Why dont u consider doing his hair yourself? It could save u guys a bunch of money if they keep goin up

Smart girl. We all did the salon thing for the experience (good or bad) , pampering and to tell you the truth, to be seen :yep: This way if something is wrong or out of place, it ain't yo fault :nono::lachen:

Unless you can't afford it or haven't found someone you trust than DIY 'g is overrated :look:

Your DH is well..yeah..you know

Wow his locs are beautiful, so long and very well kept.

I don't know anything about loc maintenance but do u think the length of his hair has anything to do with the price? If it does, then I would assume that would account for at least some of the price increase.

How often do you have to have locs retwisted? How long does it take to dry after washing? Does he wash and condition them at home between visits? Locs fascinate me, lol.

He goes every couple of weeks to the salon for re-twisting, and sometimes he does wash his hair on his own.

It air dries in a few hours. Under a hood dryer it takes at least 1 hour, if not 90 minutes.

Yasssss! i was one of the droolers speculating on the front :look:

OP... wow is all's i can say. you are both quite lucky to be so gorgeous (i've filled in the blanks on what you both look like based on hair and back shots )

back to topic; if he's going every two weeks i could see why the cost would be an issue. we're talking $250 a month now just for wash and lock maintenance. that's roughly $3000 a year! damn!

i understand charging by length, especially for washes and related treatments but he has locks. washing locks cannot be as difficult as washing loose waist length hair. maintainance shouldn't carry that price tag either, sounds like hubs is getting a little ripped off but if he loves his stylist(s) there's not much to do about that except to negotiate a deal based on frequency of vists :ohwell:

I never really liked men with locs but I'm thinking my DH and I need to have a conversation:look:

About the pricing, that's a lot for a year, like PP said maybe he should talk to them about a fixed lower price since he comes frequently.

If he doesn't mind paying then yeah I would let them handle it.

^^With a back like that and all of that hair if you don't like the face you can cover it with the hair - there are no negatives to be found here:yep:

*no disrespect* at Naturalmane :)

He may wanna learn to do it himself...

It would save him money
He could make some shopping change doing the hair of others

applesandmustard on yt has some vids kinda showing how and so do some guys

If he doesn't want u to retwist he could at least let u wash and condition
never understood paying for someone else to wash and condition...
You two could make it a romantic thing...

wow his locs are uber long! How heavy are they? im sure its at least a pound and a half

Wait, wait! This man is just getting loc maintenance! They charging like he's getting a whole new head of locs. $30 -->over $100? This was the same stuff I went through with relaxers. The relaxer was twice as much at APL than it was at NL yet I was only getting the same 1-2 in relaxed. Is the twisting product expensive for them?

ETA I saw you mention the Jamaican lime stuff. That is a BSS product.
