I was just wondering since a friend of mine (who is natural 4B) told me that she mainly attracts African and White men.

Most black people IN REAL LIFE have type 4 (especially 4b) hair. I know I am new to this forum and all...I don't understand why we on hair boards act like 4b is so rare. We are the majority :raises fist:.

Why would a black man expect your hair to look any different than his? :look:

When I was natural living at home black men liked my hair, when I relaxed it I upset quite a few ppl male and female.

Actually very few ppl liked the change.

I consider myself 4aish/b, at the time I would have considered myself 4b.

*raises fist back* ..Because the majority of us have relaxed hair so they are conditioned to like that first.

Since the BC, white folks get a kick out of it. But that's just how white folks are. The most compliments came from women who were already natural or who were tranisitioning themselves.

Some men don't give a damn, IMO. As long as your face & body is tight..

I think I get more attention from the brothas since I've became 100% natural. Most of the AA men I know or have encountered, compliment me on my 4b hair, especially my afro.:afro::yep: Most of them ask questions about being natural and even ask if they can touch it. As a matter of fact, one of my trucker friends loves to play in my hair. I am considering loc'ing it and I'm getting positive feedback from the guys. As a matter of fact, the same friend (who is my loc inspiration, BTW), encourages me to loc and loves to give great advice.

I just ignore any rude or ignorant comments from the "friends" that suggest I relax or get a super silky, butt-length LF.

LMBO!!! You're right..definitely look at body first, then face and maybe hair last...

My brothers love long hair on women. Natural does not matter (but I think men in DC are used to seeing natural hair). They hate weaves, wigs all fake hair though. From my conversations with men, it seems to me like as long as your hair is SL or longer and well kept natural or relaxed..you got it going on as far as men are concerned (assuming you pass the body and face test first).

out side of the men i already knew i haven't had any real conversations about my hair i always receive compliments but as far as hair texture-type or going natural i haven't heard or talked about it with any man.

and there is only one of my male "friends" that comments on my hair all they time and when i did my yarn braids he said i loved your pillow hair why did you lock it but i told him it was fake locks and he said im always up to something but even he has never said anything to me about the texture so go figure.

so maybe because i change out my hair styles so much its just another style for me.

maybe its the age range of men or the class idk

I had been wearing a sew-in since March (not the same one). I removed it last weekend and wore my natural 4B hair to work. I received complimints from other AA females who were natural or desired to be natural and males of various races (except AA). When I wear my hair straight or in a sew-in I dont have any problem attracting attention from bothers, but not this week so i have to wonder if there is some truth to OP's statement...at least in the south.

Possibly true...my aunt tried to set me up with some guy she works with and she showed him some of my photos--both relaxed and natural days--he told her I looked SOOO much better relaxed...:perplexed

Probably the first negative comment I've heard from a dude concerning my hair...not going to make me change anything about it, though...

I've been in the US for over ten years and was only relaxed for maybe 1-2 years during that time and I've had AA men holler. Didn't seem like my natural hair bothered them or they wouldn't have bothered me. What's more, whenever I've worn my hair out, I've had more guys than ladies compliment me on my hair.

My hubby is AA and he just cares that someone has long hair. Doesn't care whether it's relaxed or natural. Just as long as it's not short--which he considers "looking like a boy". :ohwell: He might appreciate short hair on some faces but he'll always punctuate his statement with, "but she would look better with long hair". LOL

^^Nonie: i only came in here because you were here. saw this thread earlier and figured it was trolling or just uhm... let's just say 'not to my taste' so didn't bother coming in (i don't intentionally irritate myself).

i gave it the same level of side-eye i would a shade post. because this is how i interpreted the OP when i did the rollover preview of the text (i'm replacing shade w/ texture to show how i thought of it):

Do AA men like dark skinnded women? my dark skinnded friend (not me, i'm golden... caramel actually) is dark skinnded and she has trouble getting AA men. And also, is it hard being ugly??

i threw that last one in there but @OP, seriously? i don't live in the states but i don't understand how another black woman can ask this. but... perhaps it's because i don't live in the states and spend a lot of time in the caribbean. Natural 4b hair is really big in toronto and in the islands of the caribbean i frequent so... i guess i don't have the proper cultural context to truly understand and relate to this question...

They sure do! I've had quite a few stop me in grocery stores to compliment my TWA. Associates and strangers In our office building as well. Now and when I did the BC back in 2009. I will say I get "more" compliments with my TWA though.

When I had locs they complimented my hair a lot. Some were fascinated by them.
I think they liked it because of the length (they were bsl/mbl) and not concerned about texture.
But when I cut my locs off and had a twa the compliments stop :( ...lol

@nzeee :giggle: I know exactly what you mean. There are days when my patience is wearing thin and some questions make me go :perplexed and I just KIM. Plus if I see over a hundred responses, I figure all bases have been covered and so there's nothing to add and no need to enter. And yes...some days I just like a nice quiet day.

When I first did the BC a year ago, I hardly got any attention from black men, but I did get a whole lot attention from other races, which had never happened before. I'm talking white, asian, and middle eastern guys. But now I'm starting to notice a lot of black guys are trying to talk to me now, and to be honest, I'm not sure what caused the change. Maybe when I first did the BC I wasn't as attractive with short hair, or that I wasn't as confident with my hair as I am now, or maybe black men have noticed so many black women going natural that they're starting to like the idea. I'm not sure, it could be a lot of reasons. Bottom line is I think like anything in life some people are going to love natural 4B hair, and some people are going to hate it, as long as you think you look good then that's all that matters.

Yes. I've been with my fiance dude man for 9 years now and I've been natural for almost 5 of those years. That man loves my hair and I always find his hand randomly in it. Now he is to the point where he says he prefers the natural hair over relaxed hair. And this was the same homie that didn't want me to go natural in the first place :/

My Dh LOVES 4b hair. LOVES it! I have showed him hairstlyes of "looser" curls or hanging hair and he doesn't care for it. I think his ideal of beauty is more of a diasporic(sp?) woman though. I have said it a million times on this board, but he loves him some kink, lol.

Men rarely comment on my hair (it's 4A and 4B)... so I would say it's been a mixture. And no man has ever come out and said they disliked it but will ask things like, "You like your hair like that?"

Typically, a braidout or twistout. I get both the positive and the passive aggressive comments at that time.

I've noticed that my twisted-out fro gets the most attention. It's a mix, honestly. I get stares from black folx and white folx usually come up to me and say how much they love it. Just the other day I had a ww say that my hair made her happy...

I dunno. I can't wait until it's much longer because I will be FIERCE.

when women relaxed, BM knew the hair was "OFF LIMITS" - now that more women are going natural, I see them alot more open to it - they can touch.

I also think it depends on where you are and what the general culture is. Some places have more variety than others when it comes to black women and hair culture.

This stuff kinda confuses me. The same with "Now it doesn't matter if it rains!" Or "Swim as much as you'd like, you're natural now!" My dumb behind jumped in the water all wily-nily and my hair was a HAM! I later said to my sister, "But... I thought this was supposed to be more carefree and more versatile/styling options. It was simpler relaxed." I hope that stuff is posted in the natural hair myths thread. Otherwise you might be hearing a lot of women shrieking, "Agh! My hair!!" once emerging from a pool with a half-inch fro.

Tell me I'm not the only one who did that!

Sorry love, I love it when it rains on my hair. No umbrella, I just go out in the storm with my hair buckey naked. Nothing like the feeling of a summer rain on your hair <3 <3
