Absolutely. It's just a cheap filler and isn't actually producing any benefit to my hair, plus I refuse to mess with that stuff and suffer even the smallest setback. There's just too many ways to get healthy stuff on my hair without resorting to any iffy ingredients.
I used to avoid mineral oil. But I still use it main in the Ayurvedic products. Hey I use Vaseline now. But the point is to clarify my hair--esp. my scalp. To keep it from becoming clogged.
Yes, I leave it alone. It took me awhile to figure out why my hair was so dry despite daily moisturizing. I switched moisturizers and my was still dry. Then I stopped using moisturizers with mineral oil and my problem was solved.
DrC, youse a mess, lol. I LOVE that movie!
When i wear my hair curly, absolutely. When i straighten I dont mind using all the silicones and mineral oils i can.
I hear so many mixed things about mineral oil, I just don't know what to think anymore. Some say it's bad and some say it's good. I do find myself shunning a product that does contain mineral oil but on that note, I do still have some old favorites that contain mineral oil and they haven't done me wrong. My hypothesis is, if I put something that contains mineral oil on wet hair, it works like a sealant and should be okay with moderate use BUT using on dry hair is a BIG No No!
Deathly afraid of it. Even though over all poor hair care lead to woes with my relaxed hair, I constantly relate mineral oil/petrolatum to my relaxed hair's decline. I don't have a product with it as an ingedient and refuse to buy any, despite rave reviews, product that contains it. For me, mineral oil is the Grim Reaper and the debil rolled into one. *fist shake AND spit on the ground* mineral oil.
I definitely try to avoid mineral oil as most products that contain it leave my feeling either greasy, coated, or dried out.
However I do use Garnier Fructis's curl creme from time to time which has mineral oil in it. My hair never feels greasy after using it and my curls dry nicely and with slightly less shrinkage.
Mineral oil based products are probably ideal as a sealant. Yes mineral oil blocks water from penetrating the shaft but it also prevents moisture from leaving it as well.
When a product contains mineral oil it's probably all about the formulation and how you use it, like anything else...
I use mineral oil i.e. a little baby oil mixed into my homemade recipes. My hair actually thrives off the stuff. But I can only add a little (like a teaspoon) in my whole mixed batch. If I were in America, I probably would have never discovered that my hair likes the stuff because I'd use all of those good products LCHF enjoys using.
For daily moisture maintenance I don't use any product that has cones, or mineral oil. I prefer my hair to "breathe" and be free of heavy products so I can add my water based moisturizers in my hair daily and not be clogged with cones/mineral oil because the cones/mineral oil will prevent the moisture from penetrating my hair strands.
The only time I use mineral oil is in the Miss Jessie styling products during the winter because it's really cold and it works better for my hair during that time.
I use 2 Motions Conditioners that I mix with Argan oil as a bi-weekly DC. My hair has not suffered dryness since I started 6 mos ago. Both have mineral oils and I DO plan to keep doing this....Other products I use have NO mineral oils as a personal decision of mine...But now, if it works, I'm not gonna rock the boat.
