I lot of you have told me that it took you 4 years to grow to waist length but I need to know from which length did you start counting? Because I am counting from 1/4" of hair because that is when I started my healthy journey. and I have 2 1/2 more years to go because it will be 4 years of growing and I am not sure if I should be counting from then or giving me a little more time because I started out bald???? Please can some one answer.... I have a hard time getting people to help me out here LOL

Can't really help u much because I'm not wsl but if u know ur monthly growth rate in inches and have a ruler to measure how many inches u are from waistlength u can kinda figure it out from there...

Well while you are waiting for responses what length are your currently at.

I am 2.5 years in and at SL. I didn't start on my hhj until 1.5 years in. So I have had to do a lot of damage control to my ends.

4 years?! For who, a giant?

May 2009, I BC'd at 1-3 inches. I made full SL/CBL at 1 year post BC and BSL/BSB at 2 years post BC. If I stay "on schedule", I should be WL by Jan 2012. However, I'm giving myself until 3 years post BC (May 2012) to make full WL.

eta. I'm no fast grower, either. I get 1/2 in most months, but sometimes less. I am 5'4, but I have a longish torso.

How often do you trim your hair? You must have ridiculous retention. How do you wear your hair most days?

I am at APL right now with 9" of hair and I started from 1/4" of hair 2.5 yrs ago. I started with a healthy head because I cut all the damage off then which is why I was so short.

Now I would say that you grow fast lol I am 5'4" also but I am only APL but I was wearing my curls out until a couple of months ago when I said let me hide my ends so I keep 3 plaits in it all day.

I really think you need to measure yourself to see where WSL is on you everybody's torso's are not the same length and what's WSL on me, is probably not WSL on you...just my 2 cents

Since no one was here to help me I did from APL which is where I am right now to WL on me I have about 10" to go.

Hmmmm.... You don't mind me asking what do you do to your hair. Reggie... products??? :look: That a lot of retention you have.

I'm actually not lol. I'm BSL now because the back of my hair was 3in when I bc'd. If you had kept three inches from before your bd, we'd be the same length right now. :yep:

Then it sounds like you will make WSL in a little less than 4 years, since you are APL now after 2 years and you only have 10" left to make WSL, using 6"/per year calculation, (assuming you are planning on PS'ing, retaining, etc etc...I know retaining every inch is hard) you will make the 10" in 20 months, a little over a year and a half left...HTH

I had 5 inches of hair in September 2007 and I hit waist length in 2010 so it took 3 years, but again I had 5 inches. I would imagine that if I had a TWA or shaved my hair bald it probably would have taken me 4 years.

oh ok I see now you started out 3" or so longer than I did. that is why I am asking at what length did everyone start out at when they say 4 yrs.

YYYAAAAAA!!!!! I am staying in these plaits... you just made me feel so good..

I BC'd down to 1/2- 1 inch of hair all around.

4-5 years to WL is my plan.

Last week was my 2 year post BC mark and my hair is APL.

we are right on sch I see. I think the only reason I am not longer is because I was wearing my curls out everyday because I was loving my hair and at the time I just said what ever I make I make but then I started taking it serious again and started protecting my hair again once the hair curly started touching my clothing. I didn't want my ends to break off.

i plan on making it in 4 years. i had a bald fade last year. now i am SL. plan to be APL by Sept/Oct. BSL by April/May 2012, WL by March/Apr 2013

I see you have been a member since 2004, how many times have you started over?

i cut my hair down to a fade 4 times since i have been on this board. either i get bored, put a relaxer in it, or get it pressed/straightened, creating my hair being damaged from heat. not breaking off, but my texture not reverting. a lot of that came from dealing with people in my life that made me feel bad about my hair texture. i did it to please others. but i decided to stick with this natural thing for awhile and see where it goes. i started out with APL when i joined this board. i joined because i followed someone from another hair care board. i just love to talk about hair.

i decided to kind of hide my hair from myself for awhile until i reach my second goal. this way i won't get bored and do something crazy, or stupid.

Man 4 times !! how long have your gotten before you had to cut from the damage??

the length i am at now. that is why i have to hide it. the witching hour is upon me! :lachen:

btw, i cut my hair from damage one time. the other three times was from getting a relaxer. i don't do transitioning very well. i am an all or nothing kind of person, very extreme.

My last relaxer was March 6, 2009 to be exact. I finally got a professional cut to rid myself of the relaxed ends in Decemebr 2010. I just got a blow out 2 weeks ago and I am full shoulder legnth. But guess what?..it is the thickest healthiest shoulder legnth I've ever seen in my adult life. When this hair grows out I can tell you right now it's gonna be a beast. Keep up your healthy hair practices and you will reach your goals.

I've been on this board a long time..check the date. And let me tell you steady always wins the race. I remember back in 05 when I was dealing with damage from a relaxer and a few choice members decided to go natural (Lynnieb, Mekyakinkerbelle, Southernbelle, etc). I was like "why would they cut all that hair; there's no way I would ever wear my nappy natural hair". Who has the last laugh now? Who? They do! My point in all this is not to get caught up in comparing your hair to another's. You will get there.

My last relaxer was October of 2008 and I am currently at mid back length. I cut off all of my relaxed ends so I'm only dealing with hair that has grown after October of 08 and I fully expect to reach waist length by October of this year, December at the latest. Barring any major trims and set backs I see no reason to not be able to reach waist length in 3 years.

ETA: I'm not saying that I expect to be full waist length, as my hair has natural layers, but the longest layers of my hair should reach waist length within 3 years.

Thank you SO MUCH for this post @naturalTAN.

I'd never had hair longer than NL in my life, but something about you crazy women on this board made me set a ridiculous goal within days of joining 1 year ago :look::lol:. I told myself I wanted to be grazing WL by December 2012, 2.5 years after my BC down to just 2.5" of hair (see my siggy).

I have doubted myself soooo many times during this last year, but I've never given up. Even with my trims, I now have 9" of hair, and with WL being at 19/20" on my body, I just might make that ridiculous goal I set as an LHCF newbie :drunk: :)

And oh yeah- I don't consider myself a "fast grower" either...I'm just focused & really, reaaaaallly stingy with my growth :yep:
