Wish I knew exactly where those posts were, but I know I've seen posts where the person is asking/showing their lenght and then they plead, "Please don't bash me if you don't think it's the length I'm claiming." --- or something in similar words! So that leads me to think there are some who will disclaim another's length. I'm not talking about a person just disagreeing. I'm talking about meanness! And that pitiful "smh."

Oh, btw, when I post my SL hair in December, I will be TELLING everyone I'm SL, not ASKING! LOL!:lachen:

LOL...LOVE IT! (@ the bold)

I haven't seen any meanness, TBH when it comes to length. Just folks being told what they didn't want to hear and that can hurt one who had hopes for better news. So I think those posts aren't so much about being afraid of being attacked but rather a desperate hope that others see what you see. In other words, don't read too much into what's posted but actually do your own research and you'll sometimes find things aren't as they seemed...and sometimes you'll find they are. But it's not cut and dry.

^^That gives me enough guidance to find the threads myself. And why would you posting links be starting drama? If it's something that is already posted and you are stating what's already posted, if drama was going to start, wouldn't just your statements in this thread be enough to start it? :look:

But @Daeuiel you're a trip stretching those^^ responses to mean it has to be between SL and APL to considered SL on LHCF. LOL

Well let's just say it's one thing to mention it abstractly and another to actually attribute quotes to an individual poster. I'd rather not. :look:

And I'm not the only person who feels that way, that you have to be beyond a goal to actually have attained it. If you've seen those responses numerous times in the forum, and seen people say in the 'things you don't want to see in 2011' thread that people claiming a length they barely have is something they're tired of, it will make you think twice before you proclaim your length goal achieved. I'm just saying. :look: Man I love my twa, I won't have to even think about making an update thread for at least a year

Drama-free zone! This post is not to start drama. I promise. That's not my style at all.

The hell? What brought on this protest? Are y'all drinking something I'm missing out on?

Never mind, I'm leaving coz I'm so lost. LOL Carry on folks.

Like I said, I am yet to see this w/r/t SL. I've seen it with other lengths though, and sometime I do agree it's wishful thinking.

But folks set themselves up for failure if they ask "Do you think I am cute?" They're better off asking, "What do you think of me?" That way people can talk about the positive stuff (You have a nice heart and are very organized and a joy to be around) and leave the negative out (your nose is too small for your face and sways funnily when you laugh and your ears look like they belong on an elephant, so no you're not cute looking). LOL

Maybe do a poll: What length am I? And then folks can anonymously boost your morale or crash it. Or just do what Carla's doing, decide and don't ask.

I have noticed wishful thinking when it comes to APL though...and yes, raised arms for me do not APL make. I even demonstrated how inaccurate taking pics like that is. I've also seen the angle trick....

Nonie: I'm so glad you mentioned this! true stuff. :thankyou:

When it touches the shoulders. But on here being FULL something is kind of popular so your back and sides need to be there or as someone said there or beyond just so you won't get ur bubble bursted lol

I believe when any part of your hair (more than a few strands) touches your shoulder a la Elise Neal. I agree with the PP that also shows LHCF definition that I don't subscribe to btw seeing that most people's hair grow in layers.

I have layers and I plan to keep my layers, so I usually part my hair across around about above my ears and pin up my top/front layers and when all or majority of the hair hanging down in the back is SL is what I consider SL for ME. My nape hair grows really fast and always end up with this mullet thing, so for me personally, just the nape hair making it isn't a good indicator.

I went ahead and claimed SL in my April siggy pic below.

interesting and good thread op. I'm sure a lot of us here would like this clarified. I think it's when you can draw a (visual/imaginary) line across the shoulders since my hair doesn't stick out at the shoulders, for the hairs to drape or cover the shoulders, I think you'd have to be longer than sl IMO.

So what is it? I'm really confused...b/c what if your hair grows/is cut in a U or V shape? Don't you claim the point or hump of the hair? I has a confus-ed....

If your hair grows in a V shape, and you want to claim a length on LHCF, a good inch or 2 of the point should be past that length to avoid scrutiny :look:  I didn't just decide this, this is what I've picked up from other threads.

@Daeuiel The bold is what I meant.

I haven't noticed that w/r/t SL. I have noticed wishful thinking when it comes to APL though...and yes, raised arms for me do not APL make. I even demonstrated how inaccurate taking pics like that is. I've also seen the angle trick...but again not w/r/t. But not sure why any of us (including me) should care; it's the one who wants to claim a goal earlier that is really at a loss because she may be stuck there forever. So pfft, let them claim whatever but don't be mad if others don't join in the fake celebration.

The image you called LHCF's SL I consider between SL and APL. I've never seen anyone disagree with that description of that length. Unless the pic was taken from above then :lachen: or with a tilted head  ...yeah, no comment.

Amen.

and altho Daeuiel was joking with her LHCF definition of SL, I know exactly what she meant. I won't be claiming APL (on here at least) til I am darn near MBL.:lol:

I consider SL when the nape reaches collar bone length (I only consider cbl to truly be SL). I think it would be silly to wait until all of my and any newly naturals hair reaches SL because that can take years considering we have natural layers and would therefore have to wait until our hair passes the length of our entire head. I measure my growth by the back of my head and generally consider the hairs starting at the ear. That's enough hair to give a nice thick length without it looking like just a few strands

I say when the nape/back reaches the shoulders. I wouldn't say all of the hair because a lot of people have bangs.

I agree with both of you ladies...S/O to LaFemmeNaturelle on your BC!!!

most of us have layers so i'd say the nape. if i waited for my crown to reach sl, i'd be bsl in the back

I believe when your hair naturally rest at your shoulders, you are officially shoulder length. Anything after that is still shoulder length until your hair reaches APL. If you straighten your hair and most of the sides and nape are resting on, or past your shoulders and before APL you are shoulder length, whether you want to claim it or not (major run-on ). If you need proof of my statement google 'shoulder length hair' and you will see that mostly all the images are of female with hair resting AT their shoulders.

I for one will not allow anyone to dictate to me if my hair is or is not a certain length....especially since pictures are not 100% accurate...so when my hair reaches the apl mark....I'm claiming it lol

Ya'll know I love LHCF dearly, but ya'll can all go get jobs as professional rock-kickers if you plan to keep me from claiming APL when I'm good and ready :yep: . And I say that with LOVE sisters!

Like Charla, I'll be tellin', not askin' :yep:

You got that right! I don't wait to be crowned, I crown myself:lol:

In real life, I have always considered this shoulder length (especially since her ends are curled under slightly)

This is my neck length:

To me, shoulder length is any length of hair that is touching your shoulders or almost touching it (in real life, not online. Online, I know that in order to claim a specific length then the hair has to actually be touching that measurement, maybe even 1-2 inches past it. I'm not making this stuff up people).

I agree with you ms-gg. Most people IRL don't even know what a hair chart looks like to claim "official lengths." They just go by the closest body part. If your hair is closer to your shoulders than your neck, they are going to call you shoulder length. Hell, people call my curly hair shoulder length now and I'm like OOOOOOOH don't tell LHCF!!!!

I will be doing the same! Esp APL, I will be acting a d@mn fool bc my hair has never been that long before. I will probably start a thread with several pics and everythang.

I don't even care if people are like pshhh APL ain't ish (like how they did Gabby Union:look:). It IS ish to me and I will be celebrating hard.
