Isn't it more or less similar to hair message boards with the exception that the focus is exclusively natural hair? That's what I got from reading the description.

Probably! Why not? Nothing more than what we are doing now.

Anything that's not the norm is a cult or they label you as being brainwashed.

The description said something about being able to affect change in the Black Hair Care Industry. I personally think it can be done without being a "sorority." So I don't see why that's necessary...

You can take your afro to a bunch of other sororities if you are a qualified individual. What would they do if someone died their hair, or got a relaxer? Do you have to resign your membership???? *********.

Exactly what I was thinking....

My university had a natural hair club. Going the extra step and making it a sorority seems way too serious that it needs to be.

I already joined one! It's called longhaircareforum.com

:lachen:That made me laugh!
But honestly, if I were new to a school and didn't know anybody, I could see myself joining one (well maybe if it were more of a lower key group/club), just to try it out and meet friends.
I see where y'all are coming from, calling it extra and a bit much, but if it serves its purpose and doesn't encourage politics/drama, I wouldn't knock it.
Just my $0.02 though:ohwell:

Just..... Why??? That's just doing way too much for no reason.

ETA: But I am curious as to what the mascot and motto would be.

I would join! I see it no different than being on a hair board, youtube, twitter, or any of that stuff. Their are colleges w/ natural hair clubs. I see nothing wrong with it.

But i am curious as to why you guys are labeling it excessive?

I would join a local club or something. Meh. I'm not about to pay expensive dues, pledge, and all that jazz though.

I am in a sorority and I think a natural hair sorority would do no justice to what it really means to be in a community service organization.

There is already a sisterhood amongst natural hair women, no need to make a sorority out of it.

Besides you should never join a sorority because it represents your physical features... including your hair style of choice.

I think this is a excellent point. It seems very divisive to me if it has the same guidelines as a real sorority.

What will it be next, the Relaxed Hair Sorority, Braid Out Sorority, Locs Sorority, APL Sorority?

I don't see why a club wouldn't suffice.

I think it's a stupid idea. Why are people making such a big fooling deal about natural hair? I mean yes women are growing their own hair out of their heads and leaving it unaltered finally, but people have been doing that for THOUSANDS of years before Madame CJ Walker and perms. you got natural God-given hair? So what?! No need to form exclusive groups. We are the only race that does this.

What would the pledge period be like, transitioning, staying away from heat, wearing wash and gos only? I thought there was a sorority already, the hair nazis.

I think it might be a little excessive, almost deifying natural hair. Just me though. I mean I'm natural, but think it's kind of silly. Like a red nail polish sorority. The benefits of a hair board is that it is not exclusive and recognizes all hair types for as long as one wants to be involved.

This right here says it all....

i agree with 13StepsAhead if you're already in a sorority that deals with community service, sisterhood, etc. what will be the point of a natural hair sorority? A club seems a lot more feasible than a sorority...imjussayin...

and on another note how would that even work????? It's starting off with very specific prejudices if you ask me...(i.e. natural hair sorority) My sorority isn't allowed to prohibit membership based on basic preferences(hair, sexual preference, race, creed...) and I highly doubt that If they were to try to become incorporated that it would happen based on the fact that its focused solely on natural hair.

lol k done ranting :D
