I have noticed that in my area quite a few people seem to be doing the "Cassie' look, Yeas apparently my neck of the woods is about 2 years too late on this thing .:lachen::lachen::lachen: Maybe LHCF has spoiled me but none of these "Cassie cuts" as I like to call them dont look good...at all. Most I have seen have shaved off all of the sides and the back and are left with a rectangle of relaxed hair at the top with tracks added to it. Some have even gotten really creative and added colorful tracks. I have seen this on young women, I would say under 30.

While I would love for some of these women to embrace natural hair...I'm not sure if that is going to be the case. I know of someone personally that is contemplating the cut and I am trying to talk her out of it becuase I know that she wouldnt take care of it.

How does one grow out such a hairstyle and not look a hot mess.? Is there some sort of protective styling one can do with a haircut like this? Especially when 75% of the hair on your head is gone, Wigs are the only thing i can think of but even then....:nono:

Hi! You know, I had something very similar to that cut. Of course it was about four years ago, but I consider that as part of my hair journey. I had everything shaved down except my bangs, which had been bleached and subjected to countless manic panic colors (turquoise, pink, green, purple). The bangs had to be relaxed and the rest was cut by my barber. When I was tired of paying $50 to get a patch of hair relaxed, I went bald. And I loved it. It was amazing :))). I stayed that way for years and just last January I started growing my hair. I don't like wigs, although I got two when I couldn't control the curls as my hair grew (pre LHCF lol). As for others, ehhh...going bald isn't for everyone

If it was just a patch? Why didn't you just buy a box of relaxer from the BSS and self-relax? It wouldn't take long and since it was just a small and short amount of hair there would be less of a chance of having complications with the relaxer. Even if there were, you could've went bald like you did without wasting money.

Maybe you can advise her to try the same hairstyle, but with just cornrowing or flat twisting the sides first, just so that she can see if the style is for her first. I'd personally hate to buzz the sides of my hair off and then feel a sense of regret about it.

I can't think of a protective style for it, though, besides buzzing off the rest of the hair.

The only "cassie cut" I have seen that looks good is on Haircrush on youtube. She has enough hair to cover it when she doesn't want it to show. I love it on her!

I was brought up to not deal with my hair. That it was a stylists job to do that. But I did my first self relaxer in march :). My mother was really upset abt my bleaching (I was in high school). But I did it without her knowledge so she couldn't do anything. Knowing what I know now, I definitely would have self relaxed. But my baldy was adorable :). I immediately fell in love

One has to be HairCrush aka Chime on youtube. She has so much hair that you don't even know she has the cut unless she flips her hair over. She's the only one I've seen that rocks the cut well, too.

Oh I see. I'm not a self-relaxer either but I can do small patches if ever needed so I was just wondering why you'd waste $50. I completely get it now though.

I don't even call it a Cassie cut because this hairstyle is old as dirt. The first person I ever saw rock this sort of look recently was a girl in my history class in 2005. I like it though *shrugs*

I've only seen Cassie rock it REALLY well and 2 girls in real life rock it decently. Haircrush does it decently too but I remember when I saw her with it, I didn't think it was anything special; I think I've been brainwashed by LHCF to like it on her.

The "cassie cut" is sooo outdated and old. and anyone still rocking that (including cassie) should be ashamed of their selves.

it was cute for like, 3 months, until mass people started "cassie"ing their hair. and when they were growing out out. it looked like an asymmetrical disaster!!!:nono:

......:lachen:

The Brit punk rock kids have been doing that style for 25+ yrs. It was old way before Cassie & the other kids did it. Anyway, I think when someone gets their hair cut into a style like that, they likely have a pretty impulsive kind of personality and flip-flop hairstyles often. You could keep the sides groomed neatly, brushed down or whatever, but ultimately I think you'd end up cutting the longer section or trimming it... I guess.

^^ This. Cassies hair is just shaved on one side this cut only has hair at the crown of the head the rest is shaved all around. This cut was popular when I was a lil girl in the 80's think FLOCK OF SEAGULLS lol But everything old is new again and the grow out is not gonna be cute. A couple of women on my job have this cut one even has a lil patch of hair at the nape of her head that she put a spiral curl in ( it reminds me of the lil plaits guys were growing after "Coming to America"came out) It looks like pure foolishness.

And don't forget about my homegirls :yep::

OP, is your friend relaxed or natural? is her hair thick? short? long? all of this affects grow-out.
idk,i did it. the grow out is just painless, and whenever i'm showing that side off (which is rare) because i like my hair out, i just slick it down with some ecostyler gel. it just ain't as serious as people think. *kanyeezy shrug*

and then when it's out and big like it usually is, you can't see a dayum thang. easy peasy.

^That's what I'm saying.

With my own experience with a shaved head, it only takes 4 months of new growth to grow enough hair to be able to twist it. Then from there you can just wear flat twists on the side or cornrows or something to blend in the uneven length.
