My edges looked just as yours at 3 mos pp. It is now 1 year and all has filled in nicely. I just babied my edges till now :)

Me too (something about that 3 month mark). I was also still nursing. I used castor oil and my edges are thicker now than they were before I had my baby. :bighug: This will pass, kbragg.

Nioxin is a very good suggestion. my hair line was damaged badly as well, and the Nioxin has started growing my hairline in MAJOR. It's peachfuzz now but thats way more than I had before. I've only been taking it a month.

Op, I've used JBCO on my edges as well, so this could also help(this was suggested to me).

I had the exact same thing happen to me after my daughter. I had my hair braid for the birth and kept it for a month after. My breakage was even more drastic then yours. I used sulfur 8 on my edges, no tension style, low stress and a good hair vitamin--nioxin. The edges grew back within 3 months. To conceal it I used beautiful silk scarves as headbands. No one ever knew probably because no one was looking at me anyway. I took the baby everywhere so I was invisible. lol

As echoed by everyone else thus far. I too suffered some damage to my edges, due to post-partum I believe. For me, it just took time and some TLC with those areas (massages with castor oil and not stressing the area). I know it's easier said than done. Good luck.

Kbragg, Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy!!! :) You have a beautiful family.

I am so sorry about your hair loss. (HUGS) You have been given great advice from your LHCF family and please try not to stress about it. I am glad others that have experienced this have chimed in, even with taking pictures (before and after). That is very encouraging.

I am praying that you recover swiftly from this. I bet you will be back within the next few months with a Praise Report. :)

My post-partum shedding was HORRENDOUS both times. It was mainly at the temples/hair line, and I kid you not - I was looking like Susan Taylor both times. It did start around the 3 months mark, and went on for a couple months.

I took Biotin, used Garlic oil, and basically just waited. BOTH times its grown back in completely. It is a slow process, but your edges should return to normal.

Glad to chat with you on the side if you want more deets! I actually did do a blog post about it with pics of the before and after, that you may find helpful... I'll try to dig that post up, or you can just go to my blog and look under the hair category.

Hey ladies! It's been about a month now and I just wanted to update you all on my progress. I've been using Sulfur Oil on my edges and throughout my hair and it's made a big difference. I've gained almost and inch of hair and have a nice peach fuzz where it was almost completely bald.

I took my braids down and check out my BAA:

I'm going to try @Nonie's bang fringe with a puff look because I can't stand fake hair for long period of time lol.

What Sulfur Oil do you use? Is it a certain brand?

My sister got done braids that didn't feel tight at all, but then one fell out at her edges. And her scalp turned bumpy and red.

I don't get how braids can pull like that with no pain...weird.

Glad you're making progress, OP. I have a big forehead naturally, so I'm careful about my hairline.

I think it's postpartum shedding as well. I know many woman including my cousin who get this pattern of shedding when the are about 3-5 months post. Just baby your edges and avoid tention. You should be okay. Keep us posted.

Did you go to the Dr.? This happened to my sister and the Doctor gave her some shots that grew them back. She had just had a baby. I suggested to her it had something to do with post partum but she said she didn't think so.

When I first BC'd my hairline was like yours and it was because of a similar experience (painless yet tight cornrows). I'm sorry for what's happened and I can sympathise because I've been there.

I can assure you that mine grew back within a few months (about 12 weeks or so) and I believe yours has a chance to do so also. Just focus on just taking care of your hair and treating it with love. Don't pull it back too hard or often and just keep your hair's moisture levels up. Imo, the biggest factor in restoring your hair line (assuming you have your reggie down) is not growth treatments, extra oils etc but time. Whilst I'm sure those things help to some extent, ultimately this is more of a waiting game.

I'll say it again, and again Castor Oil and Aloe Vera. Castor oil may be thick and a little stinky, but it is my go to cure for bald spots.

My daughter has very fragile hairline that can't take much braiding, the last time it got really bad I used Joyce williams hair food and it grew it back nicely

Lovely you are making progress. Just wanted to add that you should make sure you are getting enough sleep. After I had my dd I went on 4-5 hours sleep for almost 2 years and I sure could see it on my face, my hair etc.
Hugs.x

Your growth is wonderful kbragg! There's a huge difference. Your fro is beautiful too. Congratulations on the addition to your family.

I realize that this is an old thread and that you may have already received the answer you were looking for, but if I may add my $0.02, I'd have to say that wearing strawsets would be a great way to help your hairline grow back.

The reason I suggest it is because you stated you wanted to stay away from braids, weaves, etc and I think that a strawset is exactly what you need -- especially given the fact that you can massage whatever oils you wish onto those areas of your hairline that you wish to regrow. I've been wearing strawsets on and off for over 7 years, but lately I've picked them back up and they have most certainly helped thicken the hair approximately 1 inch from my hairline that I damaged using a stove hot comb.

The benefits of wearing a strawset has been the fact that I can essentially hide my hair (or in your case your hairline) beneath the straw curls and massage away.

...I do hope you find a solution.

girl. MTG and peppermint mix for topical.

And nioxin pills.

You'll be good in a month.

Oh yea, and I didnt read anything in this topic. so sorry if my advice is redundant or something.

I'm on the verge of tears right now.:nono: I don't know what to do or even how to wear my hair! DH was sweet and took me to get my hair professionally braided (He saw a coworker with cornrows and thought it would look good on me.) I told him I have a very delicate hairline but he assured me his coworker said the lady was gentle as she's tenderheaded too.

Well I felt no pain or pulling while she was braiding but it was tigggght! I figured since it didn't hurt it wouldn't be a problem. Well here I am two and half weeks later praying that this isn't permanent. I'm so upset. I baby my hair and transitioned for a full year....now I'm so far from my goals feel like crying:nono:

Some of it could be postpartum shedding since I just had my baby 3 months ago but I'm pretty sure 90% of it is from the cornrows:nono: I will never let a "professional" near my hair again. Click the pic for the vid:cry4:

PLEASE if anybody has any tips on how to recover my hairline or at least what I can do with my hair in the interim please suggest. No more wigs, weaves, braids, etc. for me. I just need something until my hair is long enough to rock some decent twists.

:cry4:

I feel for you sis!! i can understand since i went trough the same thing, braid and post partum at exactly 3 month after i ha my baby. my hairline was worst than yours but i can say it is back now 90%.
i was topically apply a mixtue of oil with garlic and onion paste at least twice a week prior of washing my hair (all over the scalp for at least an hour). i have also used megatek 3 times a week (not sure if it did help really). there is hope, it is heart breaking, but there is hope!

pic one was taken 4 dec, pic two dec 12 and pic 3 january 13.

amazing progress!!

I don't have any advice and just wanted to express my sympathy and hope that your hairline improves.

I've always been scared of braids and have never worn them.

My hair is like this now. My baby is 4 months old. I am babying my edges with Doo grow. All my progress has went out the window. Hopefully it will get better for both of us.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. You may want to massage castor oil (I learned this from here) to your ends twice daily. This saved my daughter edges when she was in braids. She applied castor daily to her ends and when she removed her braids, she didn't lose her edges like she had in the past.

There is plenty of info. here to help you get your hair back on track in no time.

Just to clarify, do you mean she massaged it into her ends or her edges?
