My Hairline is GONE and I don't know what to do!

ouch - I am taking this as a sign, I have been thinking recently of giving wigs a break as I have been wearing glue-less lacefronts for over a year now and as a result my hair and edges have really taken off along with laser treatments and oil massages. I had been thinking of having some canerows put in but I just remembered how much my hair hates any form of tension esp canrows.

Gonna have to stick with the twists or half wigs instead....

def subbing to this thread

I'm a bit of a newbie, with thinning edges issues. They seem to slowly be thinning over time. I first noticed it in highschool, and stop wearing braids after that (i'm 24 now). I try to be gentle with my hairline and massage it regularly. I'm not sure exactly what the issue is since the rest of my hair is in a decent state but my doctor did tell me I have PCOS so maybe it's a hormone thing. Thanks to this thread and some of the others on the board I'm going to try to be more proactive about the situation. I bought castor oil a few weeks ago, and i have some megatek as well. I don't see much going on, but I will take pics every few weeks, so i have something to compare. Most say that it takes a loooooooong time to notice anything. But i did want to say thanks to everyone that commented. Definitely some helpful info in here.

(yay for my first post!)
p.s. i'm relaxed, 4b (i think?)

Not sure if its already been suggested, but I read some threads saying BT (Boundless Tresses) was really good for filling in edges and even increased growth.

Hope this helps

 Welcome! I am kind of new here too. I had the same problem with my edges when I was weaving it up. So I stopped. Now that I am natural, I do see my edges filling in a bit. I wonder if it is the relaxer pulling out your edges? Maybe over-processed?:bighug:

I experienced the same thing as a result of post-partum shedding....I used a mixture of castor oil and monistat, massaged it into my hairline twice a day and had great growth...also, limit or avoid use of brushes for now....good luck!

Hey ladies! It's been about a month now and I just wanted to update you all on my progress. I've been using Sulfur Oil on my edges and throughout my hair and it's made a big difference. I've gained almost and inch of hair and have a nice peach fuzz where it was almost completely bald.

I took my braids down and check out my BAA:

you too cute here... i love your afro!

I'm on the verge of tears right now.:nono: I don't know what to do or even how to wear my hair! DH was sweet and took me to get my hair professionally braided (He saw a coworker with cornrows and thought it would look good on me.) I told him I have a very delicate hairline but he assured me his coworker said the lady was gentle as she's tenderheaded too.

Well I felt no pain or pulling while she was braiding but it was tigggght! I figured since it didn't hurt it wouldn't be a problem. Well here I am two and half weeks later praying that this isn't permanent. I'm so upset. I baby my hair and transitioned for a full year....now I'm so far from my goals feel like crying:nono:

Some of it could be postpartum shedding since I just had my baby 3 months ago but I'm pretty sure 90% of it is from the cornrows:nono: I will never let a "professional" near my hair again. Click the pic for the vid:cry4:

PLEASE if anybody has any tips on how to recover my hairline or at least what I can do with my hair in the interim please suggest. No more wigs, weaves, braids, etc. for me. I just need something until my hair is long enough to rock some decent twists.

:cry4:

:bighug:

Put some castor oil on those edges every night!

OndoGirl I have thought about the fact that relaxers might not be helping the problem. And every once in a while i toy with the idea of going natural, but i'm not brave enough like you to do the big chop! Mostly b/c i finally got my hair to APL and i'm just starting to enjoy it. But i do try to stretch my relaxers and will be relaxing the edges last, if at all.

In another thread someone told me that my shedding (and i'm guessing my edges) are hormone related - androgen alopecia, so I'll do some more research on that end, keep up with my castor oil, and cross my fingers.

After my baby, I felt how my hair was thinning again (I was off the prenatal vitamins), I started taking biotin and it helped. The doctor offered me prenatal vitamins for another year to help with hair grown also. Baby those edges once again, and it'll be back in no time!

I've noticed a little bit of thinning around my edges from wearing my satin scarf too close to my edges so I'm trying to make sure to pull it closer to my eyebrows to try to prevent any additional thinning. I'm also wearing my satin bonnet more, hopefully those both help.
