Has anyone ever boiled henna (maybe with a pinch of acv to quick release the dye) and used boiled flax liquid to gel it up? I'm considering doing this to apply to someone with plaits in.

I mix

2 boxes of Jamila Henna
1/4 - 1/2 cup of a favorite moisturizing conditioner
Black tea - about 2 cups
2 caps of Amla Oil
1 teaspoon of Paprika
1 teaspoon of Sugar
1 teaspoon of OJ or Lemon Juice
stir mix and set in the freezer or on the counter til morning if I will immediately use.

Leaves my grays medium auburn :)
I use indigo afterwards it leaves it nice and black Yay!

Quick question...I know during application of henna and indigo people wear gloves, but after its all said and done, in the days following application, do u get any staining on nails or bed linens?.....just curious because years ago I used a black rinse and it stained my nails n pillowcases and clothing blue....smh....just wondering if indigo does the same thing.....thanx in advance.

Henna (nameless brand around the house or Nupur which I've started trying recently)
1 Egg
1 tsp Oil (olive, grapeseed, castor, etc.)
1 tsp Honey

That's it. I'm not sure if it's exactly a tsp but I eyeball. I will sometimes replace the egg with half an avocado. The amount of henna depends on length and thickness. I just mix enough to make it not drip.

Recipe's been working since I was little. My mom used to use this as well when she was a kid.

HTH!
Hi Hannana,
I love Henna, it makes my hair really strong. How do I keep my hair along the hairline and edges from turining red? Since I have some gray hair in thoise areas, i can't seem to get it the same color as the rest of my henna hair.
Help!!!

Trying it for the first time next weekend with Coconut Milk, and or black tea..scared but excited at the same time!

Coconut Milk is great! I started using henna about a month ago. Actually it's been a mix of cassia, henna and indigo because I didn't want to go fully red.

I use a full can of coconut milk, black tea or green tea and let it marinate over night then add a little bit of oil right before I apply the henna. It knocks out frizz. I am totally frizz free because of this treatment and very shiney and silky. :yep:

Last time I went totally basic: Henna and warm black tea.
I got the best color release and best strengthening effects ever. My hair felt and still feels amazing. I will stick with this KISS recipe.

You're cooking it. I think I recall reading that boiling or hot, hot water isn't good for the henna. I only use warm or room temperature water. But if you want to try it to see for yourself...

My Henna mixtures are very basic too, I use hot black tea, natural oils and cheapie conditioner. I posted my latest mixture of Black Henna on my blog.

Do you still get good color uptake when adding conditioner etc to your henna mix?

I totally HEART coconut milk. I've used it twice with my 2 step henna/indigo now. I add 2 tsp olive oil with it and it's so moisturising.

Some of my greys are still resistant, but they have taken on a nice henna deep red. At least the greys around my hair line are now black. And the black strands are now shiny black.

are you ladies heating the coco milk before mixing with the henna?

Uh huh! Just for like 1 minute in the microwave. I dunno why I do it, but I feel it needs to be lukewarm before mixing. You definetely need the whole can if you're not using any other liquid.:yep:

BAQ Henna, Indigo, Water, Egg, Coconut Oil, Jasmine Oil, Alma Oil, Cholesterol Conditioner.

Definitely want to try adding Cocoa or Paprika for a darker color but want to ask is it drying?

did it feel brittle before this? what was your usual recipe like?:look::look:
TIA!!!!:drunk:

My usual recipe was: one lime or acv, one can of coconut milk, olive oil, honey. sometimes I add yogurt if I am doing a glaze. Now I am thinking I might have been putting too much stuff in the mix.

It did not feel brittle but I was not getting much release, at least not as much as I wanted. The ladies used to say that henna loosen your curlz and this Never happened to me, it was more like it popped my curls. This time though my hair is visibly elongated after. Not double but still noticable, I am a 4b.

My Moisturizing Henna Mix:

-Start with Karishma Herbal Henna
-Lemon Juice--for acidity and color release
-V05 Conditioner--For Moisture
-1 egg yolk--For Softness and Strength
-Honey--For Added Moisture
-Jojoba Oil--For Lubrication
-Peppermint Essential Oil--For the Tinggggle
-Glycerin--For Moisture
-Finish with Distilled Water--to form a paste

Here's mine...

200 grams of henna ( I prefer Nupur)
yogurt
1 egg
splash of lemon juice
raspberry tea
cinnamon 1 tbsp
honey 1 tbsp
few squirts of coconut oil
1 tsp of cloves

The henna mix I've had lately was with plain tap water, coconut oil, and molasses. For me, the less time the henna stays...the better. I get no breakage if it stays on for about 10-15 mins. Its more like a henna gloss.

rririla sorry for the Delay.

I don't get any staining at all. I love this Henna though. I did it again and you can check out my blog. (which you did already) LOL

I can't wait until May Henna Time

hi ladies,
i've revised my recipe and just wanted to share because i am loving it .....i now use (besides the henna, i altered all of the other ingredients):
- about 100g of BAQ henna
- approx 1 cup of generic biolage condish (protein free)
- few tablespoons of Qhemet olive and honey hydrating balm
- couple tablespoons coconut oil
- aloe vera juice or gel

and viola - that is it! I also stopped sitting under the steamer with the henna - not sure what it was doing that i didn't like - just didn't love it, so back to leaving it on for about 4 hours and then rinsing, cowashing and then DC with a good protein free deep condish. so far, this is my best henna receipe yet!:yep:

Hi Ladies! I'm trying henna for the 1st time today. I'm using Hana Black Henna & plan to mix it with Brahmi Amla oil & chamomile tea.

my best henna recipe is chamomile and lavender tea mixed with Yemen henna and then adding honey and meadowfoam seed oil.

I think I have finally found my ideal mix. I wanted to keep mine very simple because I need maximum coverage for grays. I initially used the Jamilla BAQ henna but found Nupur to be easier to obtain, less expensive and deposit a great color on the gray!

Nupur henna
1/2 cup of aloe vera juice
distilled water

My was moisterized after rinsing which doesn't happen when I use water alone and the color intake was great!
