henna heads.....What's your BEST HENNA RECIPE?????

Henna (nameless brand around the house or Nupur which I've started trying recently)
1 Egg
1 tsp Oil (olive, grapeseed, castor, etc.)
1 tsp Honey

That's it. I'm not sure if it's exactly a tsp but I eyeball. I will sometimes replace the egg with half an avocado. The amount of henna depends on length and thickness. I just mix enough to make it not drip.

Recipe's been working since I was little. My mom used to use this as well when she was a kid.

HTH!

It's boring but after a year or so I've come to using just warm water, box of Jamila henna, tablespoon of hibiscus powder, splash of ACV and some cheapie conditioner.

Seraphina, would this recipe make your hair red? I'm looking to dye mine red, but am looking for the right recipe.

Mine is simple:
Henna
black coffee
paprika
indigo

This covers my grey very well gives a dark brown color inside and in direct light you can see the red. In my opinion it is very rich and shiney and that is what I love.

:yep: In fact, warm water alone will give you color assuming you allow enough time for dye release AND on your hair. But the ACV is an acid that allows the color to release faster. Any acid will do but I prefer to use ACV or tea because they don't wreak havoc on my hair.

Mine is very minimal. I mix the henna with orange juice. When the dye releases, I mix a separate bowl of indigo and water and add the indigo mix to the henna. I wear it about 3 1/2 hours, rinse it as cleanly as I can then co-wash with any cheap, thin conditioner. Then I condition with Aussie 3-min Miracle, wrap in plastic for about an hour, rinse, slather heavily with coconut oil and sleep in a plastic cap. I get a dark brunette with copper highlights (the gray hair turns copper and I have PLENTY of that).

Jamila Henna
Distilled room temp water (enough to turn henna into a yogurt consistency)
1/2 hand squeezed lemon

Within the hour, I can see the dye release with this mix (but I still let it sit @ least 8 hours before use). If I don't use indigo, it turns my greys a VERY BRIGHT orangey red that matures to a nice dark auburn. My avatar is my hair a week or so after henna/indigo.

100g Henna
2 cups of water
-let it sit for 12-24 hours for color release-
add 2 tbls of raw honey
add 2 tbls of amla powder
and sometimes i add ACV if I haven't left the henna out for at least 12 hours

napur henna(its mixed with other herbs), water, kbb mask(which has shikakai and amla in it), oil(evoo or sweet almond) and honey.

Jamila Henna

This is exactly what I use. For the last couple of years I used Jamila Henna, water, conditioner, etc. I henna'ed this Friday using Karishma henna and only added water and a bit of juice from a lemon. I let it sit overnight for color release. I then sat under the steamer for an hour with the mix in my hair. I left it in for 2 more hours after that. It really turned out beautifully. I have a few greys right around my front hairline and they're a nice copper. And all of my hair has great shine.

I think using the steamer helped a lot as I used to leave the henna in for a lot more time for the same result.

Henna
Hot water
Conditioner - Suave
Oil (whatever is on hand)

I eyeball, I don't use exact measurements.

100g of Jamila henna
EVOO & a Cermaide oil
HE HH
Full fat greek yogurt
Water
Lime juice
1tbsp Amla powder (recent addition)

If I remember, and am organized enough, I mix my henna, lime juice and water and let it sit overight before I apply. If not, I mix everything up and immediatelty apply it to my hair in sections. I leave it on, wrapped in saran wrap, for anywhere between 8 and 10 hours.

I started henna'ing for its strengthening properties, not necessarily for color, which worked out cuz I've never really gotten a color change from it lol. Maybe some cranberry colored streaks every now and then in the sun. *shrug*

Trying it for the first time next weekend with Coconut Milk, and or black tea..scared but excited at the same time!

I hadn't thought of Coconut Milk...Hmmm! Do you think that would be for added moisture?

It would probably smell nice, also.

I use any brand of henna.
Bringraj and Brahmi.
Black coffee (brewed water)
A bit of wheat germ oil for better rinsing.
I do use some coconut milk. ( I am careful not to use to much coffee from the get go because of adding more liquid such as coconut milk. Don't want it runny. But the addition of coconut milk and wheat germ oil, work in tandem to create serious moisture.)

I have now Indigo-ed. I do this separately adding a dash of salt since I have stubborn silver hair.

AA

I mix

2 boxes of Jamila Henna
1/4 - 1/2 cup of a favorite moisturizing conditioner
Black tea - about 2 cups
2 caps of Amla Oil
1 teaspoon of Paprika
1 teaspoon of Sugar
1 teaspoon of OJ or Lemon Juice
stir mix and set in the freezer or on the counter til morning if I will immediately use.

Leaves my grays medium auburn :)
I use indigo afterwards it leaves it nice and black Yay!
