I wish I could ask this woman a few questions...

1. I mean first of all, how do you even get a child that small to sit still long enough to do micros?
2. What was wrong with just braiding her own hair?
3. Umm, you don't think you're going to give her a complex about her hair?
4. Where the heck are her EDGES??!!
5. Why, WHY, WHY, WHY??!!

And to reiterate the OP,

6. REALLY???!!!!

:nono::nono::nono:

I'll give it a shot.

1. Boones Farm

2. If it's good enough for Lil Kim..

3. hahah. you said "think". That mother is not thinking

4 With the wind. Gone

5. She need better people

6. Yup.

I've never had braid. Don't they give people headaches at first? That pacifer is the baby version of a leather strap. Po thang.

Well hot dayum. This thread brought some lurkers out. Unicorns are awesome.
Anyway just passing by to see if the LHCFBi gonna find this mother and child. I assume getting edge damage so young could lead to perma bald edges.:nono:

Whenever I used to get my hair braided I had a headache the first night. I know that child's head must hurt! The first time I got my hair braided I was 6 and they just braided my own hair up and put in some beads. I never wore extensions when I was a little kid.

Honestly, I don't really know what to say or think about stuff like that anymore.:nono:

:nono:That looks ridiculous! I could only imagine how long that baby had to tolerate sitting still and I know she had to be crying for dear life! She could of just put it in 2 puffs or something and called it a day. It only takes like 2 minutes verses hours or days! What's wrong with some people?!

Oh my gosh, the poor child is probably crying all the time bcuz of the pain (think about it, her scalp is only 1-2 yrs old:nono:). What a terrible mother!
The baby will probably be wearing wigs by 6 yrs old if this keeps up...:look:

Not to get misunderstood, I do think shes wrong for braiding her babys hair in micros that child is much too young and micros arent the best for anyone's hair anyway.

However, I braid my dd's hair in extentions all the time, granted not in micros but kinky twists or corn rows, and its definately not all long like that (we try to keep it around the same length of her own hair), and dd is quite a bit older tht that child (shes 4)

and her hair has really taken off since I found this site and leared abt the crown and glory method her hair was seriously chopped and screwed so I'm happy I found something that works for us

So I guess I disgust u guys too.....................

The mother needs two box in her face.

At that age you don't even need to do anything to a baby's hair, you just leave it out. When my babies were that age were three/four I just put a few little plaits in their hair and it just grew, very fast!

I see it all the time now. People are in such a hurry to get a child's hair to grow or be more manageable. So if the babies hair is short they put in the extensions. But they aren't doing crown and glory, so they baby's hair becomes in more tow up. So, they keep weaving, putting in braids to make it look well coiffed. I have seen children under 5 with crochette braids, micros, even plaits made with weave hair. Most of them aren't using healthy hair methods. Black women have a hard weave obsession and we are passing it along to our daughters.

:imo:

Using weave, extensions, kinky twists, fake hair, someone else's hair on a child is wrong.
Unless a child is old enough to do their own hair and make their own hair decisions, I don't think it should be an option.

  1. Consciously or unconsciously you are teaching the child hair shame
  2. You are perpetuating the stereotype that black women are ashamed of their hair, can't grow their hair, and all wear weave. Why? We even have our children and babies wearing them.
  3. No child needs all that extra in their hair.
  4. I'm sorry but the protective style reasoning does not make sense to me. There are other protective style options.
  5. I have others but I don't want it to get ugly up in here.

Again...:imo:

all i can think about is the pain. i'm a grown woman and i've never had micros because of the *** and neck pain required if you sit long enough to put them in.

but i have had regular braid extensions and no matter what, every single one of them hurt to some degree immediately after.

it makes me want to cry thinking of that baby going through that unnecessary head pain. it's even more heartbreaking because she's a baby and she won't understand what's going on, why she's in pain, or how to properly communicate it. it's just so sad.

i don't even know why i came in this stupid thread. i can't believe this mother has twins out there going around doing the same thing.

you clearly want validation, perhaps you should try another thread where people aren't likely to be naturally inclined against extension hair for a young child. 4 years old is not in fact 'quite a bit older' than the 2yo in this picture... if you're using hair the same length as your child's then there is no reason for the extensions since they're drying and cause tension on the hair. i don't have any children of my own so i probably can't say this but really you should examine why you really feel the need to augment you pre-school age child's hair. it's definitely not for improved hair health (since just braiding her own hair would not have the drawbacks of the pulling and drying that one gets w/ extension hair), it's not for protective styling since you're already engaged in protective styling w/out the extensions, so why? btw: a public discussion board is probably not the place to work all that stuff out so i'm not asking for you to respond here, just asking for you to dig deep and ponder.

The youngest I got braids (with weave hair) was when I was 11 and went to summer camp. And I only kept them in for 3 weeks because they hurt and didn't get them again until this past year (20) as a protective style. And I STILL only kept them in for 5 weeks.

When I was a baby, my mom didn't even do puffs. she just put on a headband and let it go from there. This kid is going to have a hell of a complex. And no edges.

That baby's soft spot on her skull has barely closed (if it has closed at all). What is this mother thinking? She is torturing her child in more ways than one, and the effects of this torture will probably last her a lifetime.

In miss stress's defense: maybe her daughter's hair is too soft to stay in braids for that long without them looking frizzy or coming undone. Maybe she gets more weeks out of the braids if she uses added hair, as opposed to just her hair. And her hair doesn't have to be dry if mom moisturizes and takes care of it...which I would assume she does since she stated using the crown and glory method (and therefore, I would think she's incorporated other healthy hair practices as well). And maybe she hasn't got hip to the other protective styles yet.

Although I wouldn't use fake hair in my child's hair, I understand the aforementioned train of thought.

For (alot of) white people to get sew-ins, they have to use synthetic hair to braid their real hair up because it's oftentimes too soft/fine/straight to stay in place for an extended period of time #funfact

Not in reference to any particular mother or particular child but the ability to be able to go several weeks or more than a month without combing your child's hair is not a reason to put fake hair on their head.
Comb your child's hair!
I'm a believer of low manipulation. I comb my hair once a week on wash day but I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a parent to comb their child's hair at least weekly if a style on the child's own hair only lasts that long.
Leave the fake hair alone and comb your child's own hair.

Oh boy.... I see where this thread is going

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Long Hair Care Forum App

ya know, i've always thought it a bit wierd that people are in such a rush for their child to have long hair that they add suelyn's and ming's hair to their child's beautiful naps. :nono: nothin wrong with short hair on little people. it will grow eventually. ♥

Here are some possible answers:

1. Benadryl

2. She ain't got but this much *finger snap* hair. Caint make no styles with that.

3. Complex? You been watching too much Dr. Phil.

4. What you wanna see her edges for? Every hair needs to be braided, tucked, pressed, gelled, and shellacked in place or it isn't "done".

5. So she can whip her hair back and forth like Willow Smith.

6. For real tho'. Just think of all the styles I'll be able to do. It's like having one of those Barbie styling heads but better!

*sigh*

I hope they dont roast you too bad. Ive been there and done that when my DD was six and I ran a relaxer thru it b/c I had to rebraid her hair every single day and it got to be too much.

this is what using extention has has done for us the site wouldnt let me put in in chonological order like I was trying so if you scroll down to the bottom the pics with the bald spots are wht her hair looked like whn she was 2 almost 3 the last pic in that row is her hair after braiding it in cornrows with extentions for like 3 months. If you scroll back up the pic of her in the perple shirt, is after braiding it up crow and glory style for like 7 or so months, and the one of her on the scooter, is after a full yr on the crown and glory. The rest of the pics I added just for fun so u guys can c some of her cute styles.Validation-hunny no, her progress is all the validation I need and u cant argue with that. But Im sure ure gonna try anyway:lol:
