When my hair dries it gets so hard….

My last wash went well and I put the “knot today” as a leave in and the I braided them up, the next day I unbraided to comb through and it was so hard it hurt. I usually keep my hair in braids or a weave so I rarely deal with my hair but as it grows longer I plan on working more with it but I need a leave in that will soften the texture even when it dries. My texture I think is 4A maybe 4B. Do you ladies know of any leave in I can use that will soften it when dry? So far I have only used the knot today and the Hawaiian silky leave in and both did nothing. Also I did detangle before braiding with a denmen brush so I know it is not because it is tangled.

Creams and butters make my 4B hair hard. The only thing that doesn't make my hair hard is S Curl. It won't stop shrinkage though, so if showing length is important to you, then scrap that idea.

Maybe coconut oil and baggying the night before?

I never tried the scurl but does it make the hair greasy cause I don't want that. same for the coconut oil, I want the hair soft and manageable but I don't want it too be oily. I noticed when it is try and hard a lot of little hairs come out too. Until I find a solution I cannot wear my hair out for long because it will break.

S Curl doesn't make my hair greasy. I use it only on wash day and baggy the rest of the time. TBH, my preference is to have bare hair and I have spent the last (almost all) 9 years going about with bare hair, so having greasy hair is the last thing I'd want. There are people who apply "the juice" daily. I have never done that so I dunno how that feels like. I do baggy nightly which keeps me from losing that moisture I applied on wash day. My hair feels soft w/o any ickiness to it.

Thanks Nonie for the tips. Like the OP I too have issues with brittle/hard hair after airdrying. I will try S-curl again.
