I've been trying to get the courage to cut my hair for about a month now. Every time I would try to cut it, I would chicken out and throw it back in my ole trustee bun.

2 weeks ago, I decided to straighten my hair to do a length check. To my surprise, I was about 1 1/2 inches to bsl. I cut it it to between sl and apl. I told myself that I would slowly chop all of the relaxed hair off.

Today I washed my hair and when I got out of the shower, I was preparing to put in my daily bun, but then something just came over me. I grab the scissors and begin to chop all of the front of my hair off and then I pulled the rest back to see, how i would look....LOL (My husband freaked out)

I cut it all off! I still can't believe it! I have to get use to looking at my self with this twa. I use to wear my hair very short not too many years ago, but it was relaxed and styled, so this is a HUGE difference. I can't stop smiling though. I don't know why...lol

I'm not in love with the length, but I am in love with my hair. I feel so free. I mean really. I don't feel bound my the relaxer or by bun and 2 textures of hair.

I just have absolutely no idea what to do with it, at this length. I have no idea what products to use or how to style it! I'll figure it out though. I have a lot of research to do..lol

I know...
This thread is useless with no pics, but I have no idea how to insert them within the post,:ohwell: so I just added 1 to my signature.

I know exactly how you feel. I did this some years ago when I first went natural. But I had about 5 inches of hair. I just one day--picked up some scissors (they weren't even hair scissors.) and just started chopping off from where the hair and relaxer met. Then I rubbed my head feeling my free curly hair all over my head.

I's wus free!!!

The feeling, I do know sis.....lol Years later I am still amazed with it and I like playing with my curls. Once in a blue moon I have nightmares of someone applying a relaxer..lolol.

That is so funny because about a week ago I had a nightmare that I accidentally put relaxer in my hair, instead of conditioner! LOL

I transitioned for 5 months. My plan was to transition for at least a year. Looks like I didn't last half the time! And yes I am cheesing from ear to ear....lol I feel great!

LOL! Cute, I love hearing BC stories like this. I didn't really transition but I definitely decided like, the day before that I was going to BC the next day because my sides were growing out and my mohawk looked a mess...but when I hear these stories that are like, "I just got out of the shower and started cutting" I'm like, "Get it!!!"

I went through the same thing when I BC'd this month. I just knew it was time for those relaxed ends to go!

Congrats on your BC!! I look so forward to the day where I'll have that "free feeling" when I finally chop...but by then it won't even be the BC because I plan on transitioning for 3 years lol. :)

Thanks to everyone that has responded, I really appreciate the love!

There is no thank you button...i don't know why... but thanks again!

I completely understand your joy! When I was relaxed, I didn't get the euphoria expressed by other members after they did the BC until I experienced it myself back in April. Congratulations!

Trust me when I say that MOST OF US in this thread probably planned on being long term transitioners, and they know exactly what I mean when I say that satisfying that sudden "urge" that overcomes you is THEE best feeling ever. I planned on going no less than 2 years as well, but one day I was like "screw it" and the urge to cut overpowered the urge to keep transitioning. Who knows, maybe you'll have it, maybe you won't.

Anyway, congratulations, OP! I remember my BC clearly and vividly, although it was over 2 years ago. It's a magnificent feeling, all of it -- the sheer joy from being nearly "bald", the fear of people seeing it for the first time, the embarrassment of all the compliments you get, the laughter that bubbles up inside you the first time you wake up and look in the mirror, the confusion over HOW the heck to style it....but I promise you all of it is worth it. Have fun with your hair, you look fantastic!

OMG!
You summed up all my feelings in your post!
Thank you...

Now I need to get over it and stop thinking I have to "do" something to it...smh and lol

Yea that was my goal too and I lasted 4.5 months lol. It's like your brain knows it's meant to be even if your heart isn't ready to let go yet and something just overcomes you and you chop! You look great! Congratulations, enjoy playing in your newly freed fluff!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the same thing two weeks ago: somewhere between putting on my lipstick and putting on the last coat of mascara, I cut all my hair off and I love it and you look like you do too!

Bellissima!
