SplitEnder @ Ross

Wow! When I read this thread earlier, going to Ross was instantly on my Labor Day agenda! Went to 2 Ross', and no Split Ender. Then, because the third time's obviously a charm, I found one.

For those in Austin, I found mine at the big Ross off Burnet Rd.

Can't wait to try it!

Thanks, OP!

fyi....
I did find this at Ross (went to 2) and I opened the box before buying. I opened all 3 boxes they had at each store. I did buy it but I may return it. 1. the product feels VERY cheap. 2. not one of the handle locks actually locked the handle. 3. just went to the website and I believe that either this is the old old original verision from 2003 or it's a fake counterfeit knock-off. on his website, he states that the blades of the knock-offs are of very poor quality and would dmg the hair.

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it.

I just used my split ender this weekend and I love mine. I will go to my Ross here to see if any remain!!!!

So is this the new one or the original? Can someone post pics of theirs?

here is mine. I'm thinking it's the original one because it does not have the signs mentioned on splitender's site. if you all can tell if it's a fake let me know. It'll def be giong back then. I dont need anything to 'give' me split ends.

I agree. I checked the blade too, and it's smooth, like the real Split Enders. The only problem I have is that my handle lock doesn't work. But since none of the ones you tried worked either, I started thinking about it and I bet that's why these units ended up at Ross.
I know that sometimes, when there's a little flaw with a batch of products, the companies will sell the products at a reduced rate to discount stores, instead of disposing of them.
I think that's what happened here. They're a little ratchet, but they're real.

:yep: I think that's the case because my lock doesn't work either. I cant stop giggling at the fact that you called them "a little ratchet".

I think my split ender broke. :look: :lachen:
I was using it exactly the way it said to in the booklet, and things were going great. It was cutting off only little bits of hair, and the hair that was left was noticeably smoother and softer.
I finished about half of my head when the blade stopped spinning like normal. Now, when I press the handle, it just goes....merrrrrrrrrr. Blades don't spin or anything.
I'm hoping that maybe the motor just needs a break, so I'm going to leave it alone for a few hours. But if it isn't okay by tomorrow morning, I'm taking it back.

My blade is not spinning either. I just bought mine today and haven't used it. I tried to test it on a piece of hair and then I opened it to see how much hair was cut, and there was none.:ohwell: Then I noticed that the blade doesn't even spin...

Also, Is it normal that when you hold down the lever to use it that it doesn't close completely?

Like this:

Mine doesn't lock either, which I was okay with until all of the other things I discovered. I also didn't get a 4 in 1 styling comb in my box, just the clip. :lachen:

I'm going to exchange it tomorrow to see if I can find a working one. If not I'll definitely be getting my money back.

The one at Ross is definitely the counterfeit :yep:, but what is so "poor quality" about the blade (besides that mine doesn't spin ). They may just be saying that to not loose money.

Hey, if that's what you want to believe..believe it. I know for me, I no longer have an interest in purchasing it. There is a reason why it's no longer being sold by them. Companies come out with newer models all the time, BUT they usually continue to sell previous models. These however have been pulled. Plus, they are mentioning the blades are of poor quality. Considering the blades are what's being used to give you a good trimming, they last thing I'd want is for someone to risk having their hair pulled out, or more inches than it says trimmed..

Who knows..buyer beware!

^^^I didn't say what I do or don't believe yet...but if they want me to pay $60 vs. $10 imma need them to be a little less vague about why. Poor quality how? Compared to what? The blade is smooth, should it be sharp? I'm not ruling out the possibility that it's garbage, but I am not going to take the word of the rival distributor at face value without any questions. But if that's what you want to do...do it.

ETA:OT: Did ya'll see the EZ combs @ Ross for $2.99!!

ETA2: If the old model was so damaging and 'poor quality' why wasn't it ever recalled? What about those who bought the older version straight from their site?

Wow, I would think that a major conglomerate such as Ross, wouldn't deal with counterfiet merchandise...

I just purchased one of these as well.

I am looking forward to using it, lol.
Anything to keep SHS outta my locks!!!
I'll keep you guys posted.

From looking at the website the counterfeits/knockoffs all have a different brand name, the don't say "Split Ender".

I wanted to thank the OP for telling us about this product being at Ross, otherwise I would have probably never purchased.

The first one I bought wouldn't close all the way so I held it closed and used it anyway, I was pleased with the end result. Then I purchased another one and it is is perfect condition and I did a second trim the next day. I took the broken one back and let the salesperson know it was broken so they wouldn't put it back on the sales floor.

I still want to get another one as a back-up, because this thing is dollar store quality, but it does do what it says. This should keep me from scalping myself trying to do trims. I like it a lot!

If my hair suffers any, I will be sure to let everyone know.

They didn't have any in the 2 Ross's near me. If anyone picks up an extra, I'll gladly pay for it plus shipping :-)

ETA: I found one today

If you go all the way to the bottom of the page they have pics of the one from Ross. Is called the Split-Ender. They show pics of the box, the instruction label on the handle, and the two screws on the butt of the handle. They have this one labeled as 'counterfeit', and says it has poor blade quality.

this is what I was saying in my post. yes the box looks the exactly the same as the counterfeit one on the sight. BUT all the tale tale signs on the actual split-ender, mine do not have. ie, my logo is painted and not a sticker and mine dont have the 2 screws at the bottom. that's why I said mine may be the old original one. I am a little scared about the blade. I know that dull scissors can give you split ends.....

anywho......I blew out my hair today and tried it. it only cut about 1/8 of an inch off of my hair which was good. I'm still scared about the blade though and only did the frt 1/2 of my head. I can say this, it did make me want the actual one and I may order it from the sight or I'll order a blade replacement from the sight.

Okay, I checked mine, it has a smooth bottom. :giggle: Thanks!

Smooth bottom here as well, as well as a painted logo rather than the counterfeit sticker.

What I find interesting is "Wellquest" printed on the side of the box. I'm going to do a little research..

Are Wellquest and Revo the same??

I bought one at Ross and unfortunately it wouldn't even turn on:(

I returned it and the salesperson told me she wasn't surprised:eek: so I did not get a replacement.

I was having issues with mine too, I thought it was the batteries. Make sure you have the button turned to the "on" position and you are holding the lever all the way. The bottom comb should close completely. The pic posted earlier was definitely a broken one.

As with all things from Ross, I would check the box before purchasing. But I stand by my review and I think this is a great buy.
