BSL at last, but I have to cut it...

I've come a long way since last year when a stylist tried to scalp me. I've finally gotten to BSL. I've been twisting all summer, and dealing with SSK for the first time ever. So today I was really to see my progress and how much damage these SSK have caused. I finally got a Maxiglide! Best $80 I've spent in a while, really. I haven't pressed in a long time, but it still got it perfectly straight!

My only issue now is that it seems thinner than I normally have it. That probably means I have to trim it a few inches. That's just going to hurt...

You can see where it seems thinned out. When I comb it all back, you can also see that it's short on the right than on the left.... :ohwell: So I've decided to go to a supercuts for a "painless" cut. Which means I'll get a stylist that will trim around a 1/2 to 1 inch off. I'll do that every two months until it evens out. (My hair grows an inch every 4-5 weeks.) Better than watching a stylist chop off 5 inches for no reason...

So close and yet so far...

on a positive note, your hair looks very healthy! Im nowhere near this length but if i were in your shoes, i would rock it as is, and enjoy my progress for a few weeks before doing the cut and then going into PS mode. :yep:

ETA: have you fund a solution to your SSKs? and how did you get your hair so straight? I would never have guessed that you are natural from the pictures. I think you're doing a great job!

Your hair looks great. Don't worry about having to cut it. It will only make it better. :-)

Thank you all so much! I was feeling a little down when I saw that it was thinner and uneven, but now I feel like I'm doing a good job.

Actually, today I went and got a Maxiglide and used it for the first time. It was AMAZING. It got so straight, and I haven't been straight for months. I also used some Sabino MB to keep it from reverting. I'll wrap it tonight and see how it goes. These are some pics of my natural hair.

This is just after I wash and DC.

This is my braid out. I sealed with castor oil, and it came out really nice.

Your hair both straight and curly looks great. I may have to revisit the thought of getting a maxiglide.. do you have the MP or XP?

I have a MP. I wanted a smaller one because I've been straightening with a 1". Since I got it in the store, I didn't get any extras though.

Your hair looks great. If you want to trim a half inch or an inch and then rock curly styles, I think your hair would do just fine.

Your hair is so pretty! Sounds like you get some good growth as well so whatever you trim off will be back in no time!

I chopped off 2 inches of my thinning ends earlier this year and I don't miss them at all! In the end, it's for the best.

I think I'm going to keep it at BSL for a while. I'm not sure if I want it longer. But what I do know is that I'm going to try to put less heat on it and also find a solution to these SSK. I finally figured out how to have nice shiny twist outs and braid outs, so I want to enjoy those without SSK or the usual snarls.

Wow, I can hardly believe you are natural. If it weren't for the second set of pics, I'd say you were lying! OK, not really, but your hair is fab...and I want a Maxiglide now!

I vote for cutting about an inch off the ends...it will be back before you know it, and your ends will all be blunt the next time around. From my experience, "waiting it out" when you need a trim just leads to needing a bigger trim, and you don't want that. I'm in this exact same situation, where I just hit BSL and I will probably need to trim later this month, and this is what I plan on doing. It's a healthy hair journey, not a race.

i like your hair, and look at it this way, at least you know you can reach bsl so you can definetly get back there

Good for you for getting to BSL! It's a good thing your hair grows at a fast rate. We know it benefits our hair in the long run, and gives the hair a cleaner look. I did a trim in June, I didn't want to lose any length but knew I'd get it back right away, and I knew it would be better for the my hair. I think gradual trimmings may be easier for me than to risk having a setback because of SSKs or losing more hair than necessary because of detangling. Keep up the good work though!

My hair growing a little faster was a real pain when I was relaxing. It meant that I got roots faster, started to shed, and was forced to go back for a touch up. This is before I knew anything about stretching. That stylist loved to cut around 2" to 2 1/2" off every second relaxer. It never grew. So I got some braids and grew it out. This is what it looked like last May.

The stylist cut off around 3", and I'm still not sure why. But freshly cut hair presses really nicely. That was when I just used grapeseed oil and a little chi. It made the cut a little less painful. I think I'm going to do it today, while I remember how good my hair looks afterwards.

Great progress! Your hair looks really healthy and shiny so even if you cut a bit it will grow back soon.

Congratulations on making BSL!! My hair is shorter on the right side too. I feel ya pain but it looks great! Even if you trim you'll still be BSL by the end of the year. Great progress!

I think it is smart to go to Super Cuts and get just the small amount trimmed. I wouldn't worry about the right side being perfectly square to the left...as long as the ends are mostly free of splits and are still growing strong. Then you can just little by little trim the left side until it matches.

Your hair is beautiful by the way.

wow nice hair
yeah maybe u need a tiny cut
when i reach this lenghth i dont think that i will cut it till i reache waist length:D

Your hair looks GREAT! Do you air dry or sit under the dryer when you do your braid outs! I'm digging your waves!

Air dry. I'm very fond of air drying in the summer. In the winter, though I use a hooded dryer partially, wrap it and sleep on it. It's a little drier and less shiny though...
