I attempted to flatiron my hair for the second time yesterday with the maxiglide (flat plates only..the first time, I used the one with the teeth) and though I don't like the results (more my lack of skill than the iron, maybe?), I took pictures. I was scrambling trying to take them with my phone at first, so that's why some have some funky angles, but then my camera's battery finished charging so I asked the fiance to do it. Once again, I'm confused about my texture as well...thought it was 4a/b but I don't know anymore...I've got a lot of s' :perplexed About to just say *** it...

The pictures are in no particular order >.> I need to learn how to label my pictures with dates...
**EDIT** Switched to a slideshow because some pictures kept resizing themselves to epic proportions...

You're faltironing results look like mine. My ends look like they need to be cut but I know they don't. It's frusterating!!!

Beautiful hair!!! I don't know the type, though. I can't tell.

That's exactly how I feel when I see them..frustrated! I cut an inch off around my 1 year mark, and I have been taking much better care of them now, but they still turn out like that. :(

You're hair looks gorgeous! You're gorgeous too, by the way.

Where in the world did you find those pink glasses? I think I need a pair..

Great progress, lots of growth over one year! You were WEARING that BC girl (you've got the face for it) very pretty. As for type I would guess 4a/4b? I've never been great at typing though.

 Thank you, lol. Um, the glasses I bought a couple years ago when I worked as an optician. They were in the section full of uglies no one ever wants, but I thought they had a dorky cuteness to them, lol. It's funny you ask, because I JUST saw a pair that looked exactly like these in Wal-Mart the other day.:lachen:

Thank you! I guess so, I'm terrible at typing as well. It just seems like one minute my hair looks like one type (or several), then the next, it's alien hair.

You're totally SL!

Whoo!

Fantastic progress lady, and I'd definitely be claiming SL if I were you! :yep:

As far as your hair type, its hard to tell, but I'm guessing 4a/4b?

For hair type i would guess 4a/4b?

You are def SL now. Congrats!!

The maxiglide results, I'd suggest using the plate with the teeth, and using super small sections and going very s l o w l y down the length of hair, and at the end do a lil bend, IMO that lil bed kinda stretches out the endbits of hair so they don't look jacked. Also I'd suggest using coconut oil before you maxiglide (but i know people think that's bad so...shrug)

Edited to add....and at the roots, kinda wiggle the maxi back and forth a lil to help it "grab hold" and straighten every strand, before you start slowly pulling it down the length of hair...

What are you using on your hair to flat iron?

Comb chase method maybe? What technique are you using?

And you look like pure 4b to me. But I'm not proclaiming myself to be the hair typing queen...

Great progress for one year! I can't wait to see mines!

You're very pretty, and I agree your hair is 4a/b.

So with your flat iron....did you DC with a moisturizing DC first? Did you include a step to close your cuticles, like an ACV rinse or Porosity Control? Did you do the comb chase while flat ironing?

Try the comb and chase method to get your ends straight. Get a small comb, make small sections, and comb through as you flat iron. Great progress!!!

When last year did you BC? how long did it take you to get to SL?

Sometime in May, I forget the exact date :x I cut it all off so from then to now, about 14 months?

Thanks for the tips!! Honestly, I know the coconut oil is looked down upon as well..but my mom used to use it, and the best press I ever got was with it. My hair didn't break off or anything. That was 8 years ago while I was pregnant, though. I haven't tried it since.

I used the teeth the first time, and it definitely came out better..it's just so heavy and lengthy...((read: lazy))...so I tried it without that plate this time. I'll just have to suck it up and use the one with the teeth. :giggle:

I have a Maxiglide..I forget which one it is. I tried the comb chase method, but I'm clumsy, and it felt a little unwieldy...which is why I blame the bad results on my lack of skill rather than the iron.

I think 4b too, but there are parts of my hair that are a complete coil, and others that are loose waves like in the back. My hair is weird. I'll have to catch it and take better pictures.

Thank you! First, I shampooed my hair with AO Honeysuckle Rose shampoo, and followed up with the same brand conditioner mixed with the Mega Care grapeseed oil. I left that on for about 3 hours while I did stuff around the house, then rinsed it out and used my JOICO K-Pak Reconstructor Conditioner for about 30, and then rinsed it out...both times with warm water. I didn't do anything to close my cuticles :wallbash: and PC made my hair feel like straw last time I used it. I've yet to try it again since I started using distilled water in jugs only.

Why are you using the reconstructor after the moisturizing deep conditioner?

Cold Water!!!!

I hope you make another thread with the new techniue being used. I'm curious to see the results. And I used to be clumsy with the comb chase method too. Practice with the iron turned off to get the flow right...that's what I did :yep:

Because they give me opposite results :x lol My hair tends to feel stronger (but not all that moisturized) after the AOHSR, which is why I put the oil in it. My hair always feels soft and moisturized after the JOICO :drunk: It may be awhile before I get the urge to straighten my hair again, but in the meantime...I can already see my DF staring at me like I'm crazy while I "practice" flatironing my hair! :lachen: When I -do-, I'll definitely post. :)
