I personally have never had to deal with edge damage but my little sisters edges are on their way OUT! So i need you ladies help in recommending products and techniques that i could use to correct this problem. I was thinking about either getting scalp braids done or just keeping the front of her hair flat twisted until it grows out right.

You can kinda see what im dealing with from these pictures

Yeah....I was going to suggest JBCO. Low/No Manipulation in that area. Avoid unnecessary tension/pulling.:yep:

I think Starronda had a recipe of Neosporin, Castor Oil & Conditioner or something like that, that she used to grow out her edges.:yep:

Castor oil will help thicken her edges but I suggest not braiding her edges at all. Maybe just gel her hair down w/ a scarf and flat twist the rest. All I know is just reduce the tension around her edges.

The gel won't put manipulation/tension on it?

I have issues with the very front of my hairline. I'm slowly seeing progress my applying ALOT of Oil Moisturiser there (i'm using Optimum 3 in 1) and loosely cornrowing the front in a nice style (along the hairline so its all tucked away) and wearing the rest of my hair anyway i choose (either cornrowed or pulled back into a pony or bun). I chose an oil moisturiser because natural butters were not penetrating my strands, instead they were just coating it.

I was leaving the area out (ie loosely pulling it all back) but i realised it needed to be 'put away' for the day rather than leaving it exposed to the elements. Besides because it is very short at the front pulling it back neatly meat using a headband or scarf and the friction was not doing it any good at all.

If i do use gel its one that doesn't go hard and is not watery. I like Jam or Elasta QP glaze or the new ORS Edge Smoother. They are more waxy than watery.

I undo the braid every evening or every other, re-moisturise and braid it back up again. It really is working.

Also be sure to use a serum before drying the hair. This helps smooth out the hair shaft.

Also be careful with scarves at night. The damage they cause can creep up you. A loose bonnet is what i use now.

I hope this helps.

eta - i just looked at the pictures again and it looks as though she doesn't have enough hair to cornrow at the front. If that is the case just keep it very well moisturised and perhaps a topical solution to help speed up the growth as the other ladies suggested.

She has enough to conrow that's why i was thinking to flat twist it

^ Cool. Flat twists are even less stressful the cornrows. I haven't yet mastered flat twists.

If you check out my fotki, i have pics of a flat twists style i did on her hair.

Ok so the flat twist are good check. I was thinking about spraying her hair edges every night with S Curl before she goes to sleep and sealing with JBCO. I heard the juicing works miracles.

What if you just did loose two strand twists on her entire head? That's a good protective style that has helped me thicken out my edges (They're thin due to genetics. I've been babying them to get them as thick as possible). Then at night try applying a castor oil mix to the edges and massaging nightly. That'll be easy for her to do on her own if you're not always there and the mix is pre-mixed.

Thats what i do know but her 2 strand twists never last long because she doesn't get the proper care for her hair when im not around.

I don't know how often you can go to see her, but my two strand twists weren't lasting that long when I came back home and I was reminded about the twist method where you twist the two pieces of hair individually before you twist them together (I hope that makes sense). That helps them last longer. Or you could try box braids. Those should be able to last a good two weeks.

Oh they last for about 3 weeks when i do them... its just that after i do her hair, nothin else happens to it after that :wallbash: ..... that's about to change though

My mom used to saturate my thin edges before tying my head up each night with moisturizing lotion and within a few weeks they filled in.

Moisturizing lotion. I remember her using Liv. It's in a red jar. Ever seen it in the bss?

Three weeks is pretty good. I could barely get two weeks. What do you mean when you say nothing else happens to it after you do it?

She probably just needs some TLC and time given to her edges and she'll be fine. They don't look that bad. At least she's still natural :)

You could try natural aloe gel and rosemary hair dress I have been using has been helping my front to grow very fast
