Bald Edges - Really discouraged right now

I made an appointment at a dermatologist for an initial visit!....The problem is I can get in until august! smh

I have very thin edges do to braid and wigs. I do not wear my hair up or back at all. I wanted to go natural but that nbetween stage when the hair is short it just does not work for me. If I could get past that I would go natural. I feel like ppl are staring at my edges.:nono:

Good luck I find alot of AA women have this problem and feel if they keep wearing wigs and weave it will get better or they try to hid it.:nono:

I was also the same - I thought I'd get weaves to give my edges a rest until they grow back :lachen:but of course it only aggravated the problem.

Aargh! The wait! Hopefully you canfind some tips here to tide you over till then.

I live in florida and I went to Dr. Thomas Taylor, I love the fact that he was one of those straight up honest Dr's. He was talking to me about relaxing, tight braids, weaves, tension from wig caps/wigs, tight rollersetting, greasing scalp and not washing frequently can make the problem worse. I will update you of my treatment plan that he will discuss on my next visit in 2wks. My edges still look like my starting growth pic

also this site http://www.brownskin.net/hair_loss.html has alot of helpful info

Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to hear what he recommends.

I have had GREAT results with Profective Growth and healing Anti-thinning Temple thick Stimulant you can also try Surge14 hair revitalizer(hard to find the Surge though) But it did help tremendously! Also When I deep condition I am sure deep condition that weak area as well-as it's easy to neglect during during the DC process.I am gentle with the area and I baby it more.
Of course you should get the Dr. opinion but that Profective is working for me thus far and it's easy to find in a local BSS.-HTH

I get my hair weaved but I leave the edges out so i can treat them. I usually get a full weave with a swoop bang. That way the edges are completely out and covered byt the style I wear. I have been treating it with ORS temple balm and Sulu and hair is growing. When I put the treatment on I tie a silk scarf just around my edges and notice it doesn't move and there is no friction. I feel stubbles already it has been about 3 weeks of treatment. wigs rubbed my edges thin and I didn't notice until I straightened my hair.
Good luck ladies. I smell a edges challenge/support thread coming on. ;-)

Curly Lee I would keep shoping around. Maybe you could start a thread here on LHCF asking the women here for the name of a good derm in your area who specialises in black skin and hair issues. I really believe that time is of the essence with these issues.

I went to the doc and received cortisone injections in my hairline/temple area. I will get them every six weeks. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Here's the thread where I shared it: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=39645

No I do not. I wash my hair twice a week and then apply nothing at all but baggy nightly.

When I was treating bald spots, I would baggy (in lieu of wrapping my head with a warm towel) and even then I didn't shampoo in the morning but would just go about the day and then apply and massage some more of the product at night. I only washed my hair on wash day which happened twice a week as it does now.

@Nonie i tried that eo mix nad it smells BAD. lhow could you NOT wash it off? i tried that thinking the smell would dissipate quickly but NOOO:nono::nono::nono: i was left with some iffy smelling hair.
is there another oil that i could use so that the smell isn't so strong?
or is my nose just extra sensitive?
