Im 10 days post relaxer and I plan to go on vacation end of the month. I will be 4 weeks post relaxer. Is it safe for me weave my hair at this time? I plan sew in the weave.

Hi, usually people are told to wait about 4 weeks after a relexer to do braids or weaves so you "should" be ok. Be careful and vigilant about having your hair braided to tight. Please dont be afraid to speak up. I hate hearing horror stories only to find out the person was too afraid to speak up.

Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

There is a master weaveologist on youtube who does it all same day. i.e. Take down old weave, touch up and reinstall. Go to youtube and search for Jehan. If this has caused any problems I can't tell you because I don't have a relaxer but she is highly sought after and has scads of good references on black hair media. You should check out the weave boards on black hair media for more info.

I've known people to do it same day but I never have. I've always heard the hair is too fragile right after a relaxer to apply a weave same day. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I think I got mine installed 1 week post relaxer once just because I needed it done before I went back to school for fall semester. I didn't have an issue. But I know how my thin and stick straight my fine hair fresh after a relaxer. It probably wouldn't even hold the braids all that great.

I finally installed my weave. Its 3wks 3 days after my relaxed my hair. Just keeping you posted.. Im reading the weave challenges for more info on how to care for my weave.

How long do you plan on wearing this weave?

I'll be real with you, I wouldn't suggest anyone get a weave if they have relaxed hair at all. To be honest, I think if you just felt you HAD to get a weave, the minimum I'd say to wait before getting it after a relaxer would be 2 months or maybe three. Just my honest opinion.

I seriously operate on the school of thought that braids and weaves etc should only be worn by people who are natural. I know this sounds weird, but I think hair is way too weak after a relaxer and will be weakened more after a weave.

I have been getting weaves done on my fine natural hair and no breakage so I concur with Nichi.

Best,

Hi Nichi and Almond I really appreciate your honest opinion. As you can see i was not so sure if i should do it or not but i got some positive replies and i thank all the girls who replied earlier and you two unfortunately I have already weaved my hair.

I plan to stay with it for 4-6 weeks coz i have to travel to germany and the water there does not get along with my hair so i had to weave. I have read lots of both negatives and positives weave comments and I just hope that it wont be a setback for me.

I have had weaves with relaxed hair with no excessive shredding but i never really took care of my hair,BUT my hair was 6 weeks or more post relaxer. so time will tell i guess

I see.

I am also wondering what you meant by the statement that the German water doesn't agree so you got weave. I hope you don't assume that because of the water down there that getting weave will excuse you from washing your hair from 4-6 weeks. You know you still need to wash and moisturize correct?

I definately wash my hair :yep::yep:. The only diff is that with a weave I wash every 10 days and with my hair i wash every 4 days. Plus i will be using bottled water :blush:. Im in need of healthy hair.
