If you are a hardcore PJ or in rehab, the quickest way to kick the habit is...

I don't know how to kick the habit. I love it, but I need a new organizational system. I'm starting to forget what's in the inventory. But it is a pleasant surprise when I see something.

I look and say "WOW" I have Label.M, I didn't know I have this. I'm so happy and grateful. LOL

Hehe, it's like finding a dollar in your pocket!! "Hey, will ya look at that?"

Rubbermaid bins. All the shampoos are together, leave-ins, moisturizers, etc. That's what I do. But my problem is the bins are huge, because I have too much stuff to store. SO has no place to put his stuff in my closet lol.

I like being a PJ, I just wish my "use it up" rate was faster than my "buy it up" rate, y'know? Having a wishlist is a joke. More like a shopping list. But I'm better now. We all want to be better :drunk:

Yea.... I have an industrial size shelving unit (you know the metal "bakery" type you can find in Target or the cooking supply shops) and I still misplace stuff.

My son just takes my pkgs and stacks them up on the top shelf. At times I forget to open the new boxes!

At first it was for me, then I rationalized it being for my clients....but now I'm getting more damaged relaxed and damaged natural clients so I'm back at it again. But its all for me.

Next weekend I'm going to create a better system Oils, Reconstructors, Moisture, etc.

This is why the Excel spreadsheet was born. The standard Word document didn't cut it anymore, as I could rationalize my hoarding capabilities. But today...printing out 9 pgs of Excel spreadsheet accountabilities...that did it.

*ahem* even though I am currently online looking at future products to celebrate my BC date...next year lol.

Excel...:ohwell:
that's no FUN! :lachen::lachen:

Okay, I'm gonna do it. (But it will be my secret, under password in case someone should happen to come across it  :lachen::lachen:)

I would then be hearing Public Enemy's "I Shut 'em Down" in the background.

Hey Artemis!

Thanks to all the Lovely Ladies that helped me diminish my stash. They were great!

My last mini-sale, 4th of July Weekend, one poster bought almost everything I had.

So, that made it nice. 1 Big Box of Stuff.

Seeing how many Duplicates of Stuff I had, was also an eye-opener.

Oh damn! I missed your sale! :ohwell: *snaps fingers*

The biggest thing that helps me is to, "Stop, Think..Think..Think, & Put it back!". I will think about it for hours or even days, thinking "Do i really need this?", "Do i already have a hydrating conditioner?", "Is it worth the price?". I will think about it so much that i have to stop thinking about, because my head hurts:lachen:
Eventually i USUALLY put it back or empty my shopping cart online:grin: Im getting better at it, but i still need my hit once a month:rolleyes:

I actually miss being a PJ.. the high one receives when receiving a package can only be compared to a crackhead high LMFAO

BTW ... how much did you spend so far?

The last item I bought was a bottle of Suave 2 weeks ago and that's it. Nothing turns me on anymore. I think I need Viagra for hair.

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

The sad thing is, that's a pretty damn good description. I'm mad I can relate. :giggle:

There is always, always new hair products so it's hard out there for PJs. I tried picking up new habit like going to nail forum so now I have that habit. It's cheaper but it's another habit I don't need. I've cut back after the skala hipe and found it was not really good for my hair. Buying only one is smarter, I'm think about this excel method??

Whoa, that's cold :lachen:. Trust me, I have quit....look for me soon in the exchange forum.

Girl, all that Running Back & Forth to the Post Office, Getting Boxes, Buying Tape & Supplies......will definitely make you realize a thang or two.:perplexed

A sure-fire Cure!

Mine PJness seemed to just stop on its own; the urge just left cold turkey. I can look at stuff in the store, but have no urge to purchase anything, same for reading about new products. What made me realize I was really cured is I have a $25 gift card for Sleekhair.com and haven't used it :lachen:.

Ummm - was that before or after allll the SKALA you acquired (from overseas even)? :lachen: Don't take this the wrong way but ur the reason some of us are addicted to stuff:wallbash:.

I added it up....and then went to the BSS, the total was $110. I used my grocery cash (I didn't have my hair cc, and I just went in there for LottaBody & Sabino -they didn't even HAVE Sabino). Sure they are products I'll use, but...then I got home with my Mozeke samples pkg waiting for me - I was like whatever.

It was so hot yesterday, I went for a night run, washed my hair, added some DC and didn't even feel up to rinsing/rollersetting - I just went to bed w/a baggy.

Rinsed this morning - and used the Mozeke Coconut Kokum Lotion I received. That stuff smelled like baby aspirin and pink bubble gum. I was running late and used it anyway but I was definitely disgusted (here is a product that I will have to get rid of!)

I went in to work and although it was wonderful to give a girl with damaged hair a relaxer, and cure the chewed up frizziness of a lady with highlights, but I was detached.

I'm home and just took of my hijab - looked at my air dried bun and went to clean up my room. (normally I would have done my hair - I have home hair and out hair.)

Instead I wrapped it in a scarf.....

I'm not mad or depressed. I just know myself - and I'm done.

I will still do the excel page because it is better a better way to keep my accounting more organized (my acct. will love me).

BTW recovering addicts... you gotta be careful not to go cold turkey. Sometimes we will stop being a PJ but start a new addiction. Like back in May I only spent $25 bucks on hair stuff.... But Went to the mall one day and in 30 minutes managed to spend $450 at Ann Taylor. Oh man I was so mad and disgusted at myself. Back in Jan I went cold turkey but spent over $400 at Ikea. I just like to shop. Bags, clothes, make-up, etc it's a weakness.

Exactly that Cold Turkey stuff don't cut it. You are sooooo Right BM!

It just makes you spend like a Wild Woman on the Loose:spinning: when you break it (or on something else). It's a slow go......:ohwell: It's definitely an addiction. And it's definitely a hard "habit" to break:nono:

cause YOU know I love Banana Republic and Brooks Brother's tailors shirts and blouses. That's exactly what will happen. I would just go back to buying silk hijabs -

Yeah no-buys are a straight joke when you actually enjoy shopping. I'm just going to ask SO to sit down with me and go through my products to put up on here or toss. Because, frankly, I have more stuff I want to buy. So if I just get rid of some stuff before I do so, it's ok. Yep, it's al-righty, lol :yep:

Yep  The entire Aquage Silkening line and some shampoo/conditioner from Syntonics. Those are my biggest lemmings. The other stuff can wait till I BC next year.

The silkening line is really good. The shampoo is 'different' than other shampoos - the feel of the hair after isn't silky. The line will not give mushy or brittle hair. I like it. The oil is light and the fragrance is not overpowering. Will smell good on a person who doesn't have scalp odor issues (I think that's the real reason they overly perfume shampoos/con LOL)

Syntonics I only use the relaxer and neutralizer. I do want to try their DC also though. Let me know what you think.

to log all that mess into Excel!! Trust me, you will never want to buy another product :dead:

4 hrs later, and I just want to throw most of it in the trash. And I haven't bought any hair stuff in months...

Bumping for the Product Junkies...I didn't log everything I already own, but I started logging new purchases with the date I purchased, how much I paid for the product, and when I finished the product. Totalling the cost really was a reality check and I don't even spend that much! I think the column for when I finished the product is pretty useful too. Thanks for the idea, OP.

lol. really can't kick the habbit. swagbucks is making it worse since i don't have to pay for out out of my pocket anymore.

Well all you have to do is lose your job and that would quickly work to rehabilitate any hardcore PJ. It happened to me and even though I have well paying job right now and have had it for approximately 9 months, I still haven't relapsed yet and have no intentions of doing so anytime soon.

It's amazing how one can quickly re-evaluate priorities when their back is really hard against an unforgiving wall. I will never go back to PJ town again. There are too many things in my life right now that are a thousand times more important to me.

I may want some stuff, but after thinking about how tough it was for me for those 11 months without a job, I can easily walk away. Afterall, my hair can only handle so many products at a time. I may once in a while treat myself to a product that I feel my hair really need - not want, anymore.

Whew, glad I got that out. I had to learn to hold myself accountable for my excessive and gluttonous spending....and greed for more and more products. Not pretty:nono:.

Have a Mini-Stash Sale and then Lugging All that Stuff to the Post Office.

I think that was a real eye-opener!

That's what I thought about doing and decided against it.

Now, I'm putting things aside to give to a local Women's Shelter for Battered Women. Their website said they definitely need African American hair care products.

Giving it to them, I don't feel at a loss for getting rid of all that stuff. Hopefully, it can be someones treasure!

And Putting stuff aside and revisiting/re-evaluating it at a later date helps alot too.:yep:

Especially, if you never really gave the product an objective review, because you were too consumed with moving to the next product!

I think I am doing pretty well. I pretty much keep my products to a minimum. I still need things here and there but things I don't need such as Shampoo and Conditioner, I just look the other way!

Trying other things are fun but I have a ton of things to go through, I am literally set for the next 5 years. I don't need anything else. I too am getting a prepaid for next year, I might wind up using it for Nails and Hair styles at the salon, :D Either way I think I am pretty much over it and I've been a Junkie since 8 years old :yep: so it's been a long time! I guess when I told myself I am being wasteful and I got all green and stuff; I began to feel bad. Excellent thought about the Battered womens shelter :) I love charity work, and that seems like a swell Idea, maybe for the holidays all of us can put one thing in a box for the shelters :)
