Okay, now, I've let my Dominican stylist do a bit to my hair. . .he's cut it, style it, blow it out. . .but NEVER color. Anyone let them color it?

I'm thinking about getting it done today. . .pretty spur of the moment decision. But I know ppl say NEVER, EVER, EVER let them relax your hair. I'm wondering if coloring is a no-no too, as it's a chemical also? I'm kinda scared to be honest :perplexed

Any insight would be appreciated. . .TIA!

I don't see anything wrong with letting him color your hair. Also, depends on if you trust your stylist.Just make sure to keep a close watch and be specific on what you want. I get a black rinse put in probably twice a year and I go to the dominican salon to get it done. Alot of ladies are usually in there with healthy looking hair getting color. hth

Yeah, I trust him a lot more than my other stylist with color. She is great at healthy hair, but I don't think she would get my color right, if that makes sense.

What color are you trying to get? Find a picture of someone with the color hair you're trying to get. I use to do that back in the day when I would get my hair dyed alot:look:. I was always ver specific, showed pictures and even used that hair coloring sample that they show you to see what color you want. As long as you trust him, you should be fine.

NO, I'd go to a colorist to color my hair! Wash/set/blow is not the same skillset as a color - a rinse, sure. BUT not permanent color and DEF. not highlights.

Like a deep dark red that looks mixed with dark auburn. Yeah, I saved the pic to my Blackberry lol

Hmmm....that wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd have to do some research to find a good colorist in my area though.

no! a few years back, my mother went to the dominican salon, nd the stylist that was doing her hair, relaxed n colored the same day!! my mothers hair started falling alot..all the stylist did was apologize and give my mother some spanish growth lotion that didnt even work..

OH WOW! That's so scary! I'm sorry that happened to her. I think I'm gonna just search for a good colorist.

I want my hair to stay healthy, the color to be RIGHT and I'm not in a rush. . .my hair isn't going anywhere lol Better safe than sorry! I'll prob let my Dominican stylist do rinses only.

I personally would not, at least not a permanent color. I trust my Dominican stylist in terms of cutting, styling etc. But I've never seen the results of her coloring someone else's hair. The times that I've gotten my hair professionally colored I've gone to a stylist that someone else whose hair I actually saw colored without breakage etc. referred me to.

*shrugs* I've dyed my own hair w/ a box kit & my hair stayed embedded into my scalp. I don't think it's as harsh as a relaxer. But then again, I've heard nightmares about bad dye jobs. I say go with your gut.
