Have fun op. Your idea isn't really that bad. People have tried worse stuff on their heads. I say more power too you and let us know how it works out.

Not going to jump on this particular band wagon, but you might try peanut oil if you're not into trying peanut butter. I would have never though of using peanut anything in the hair, but ORS' new Olive Oil Lotion formula has peanut oil in it and it got me to thinking about the hair benefits. Not strange at all OP, not strange at all.

ETA: One of the main ingredients in the popular Dr. Hauschka Neem Oil is peanut oil, just food for thought.

Well I mean....if you're looking for folks to join....then I'll join....because I seriously LOVE PEANUT BUTTER! When I have late night cravings for sweets, I just grab an apple and a tablespoon of peanut butter...But if its the protein in the peanut butter (which really isn't that much/ its less than a serving of milk) that's helping the hair then I could get that from alot of stuff I eat. So maybe make a protein for growth challenge?

Exactly, and when/if she grows her hair down to WL due to her peanut butter discovery, folks gonna be jumping and falling on their necks to hop on that bandwagon. :lachen:

Good luck with your challenge OP

:look:OP, peanut butter ain't gonna do nothing for your hair but create a huge ol' mess. You can't just slap anything containing protein on your hair and call it a treatment. It just doesn't work like that. To put it simply; the molcules in peanut butter are waaaay to large to be able to penetrate the hair but most importantly protein has to be hydrolyzed in order for it to penetrate the hair shaft.

Peanut oil does not contain protein and has no real benefit for the hair. The reason why it is used in hair conditioner is because it is the cheapest alternative to mineral oil.

i'm sorry this is too funny. :lachen::lachen::lachen: here i am thinking i "done thought of something new", lol, sitting here with my homemade conditioner concoction which i decided on a whim to add peanut butter too -- (i'm out of coconut oil or shea butter) and figured a natural butter that was solid at room temperature would do the trick .. and i saw the peanut butter in my cabinet ... hmmn, i figured it could add some thickening, conditioning, & maybe some smoothing properties to my mix ... so a google search later i found this recipe:

• As Hair Moisturizer
All you have to do is mix equal parts of mayonnaise and peanut butter and apply it to your damp hair. Once done, let it set for 30 minutes and then rinse with water.

found this one too:

http://www.ehow.com/how_4842526_own-protein-moisturizing-hair-conditioner.html

so i added about a 1/3 c peanut butter (all i had left), 1 cup of organic mayo (wholefoods), and 1/3 c wildflower honey to my conditioner mix -- it thickened it up a bit. (i think it would've done it more if i'd had more peanut butter to add, lol) ... so i'm dcing with it over night & will rinse in the am. so far so good.:look::drunk:

If you google "peanut butter on hair" (I was curious to see if anyone else was curious about the OP's suggestion) and you get hits about people inquiring if it indeed helps grow your hair.

Eating it would provide your body with good things...dunno about topically but report back!

Geez, calm down people. It's just a suggestion, she's not holding a gun and telling you to slap peanut butter on your heads.

There have been several threads on LHFC about increasing your protein intake through protein shakes etc ... why is it a problem when OP suggests doing it via peanut butter???

People here make all sorts of messy concoctions, runny avocado, eggs etc ... what's the difference when it's peanut butter??? Regarding peanut oil, there are so many other oils that people use on this board that do not penetrate the hair shaft. While these types of oils do not penetrate they do offer lubrication. So why is it so far fetched to consider that the peanut oil in PB may be helpful.

OP, if you're interested there's a couple of old threads on peanut oil if you do a search.

You'd have to make sure to wash your hair really well to get the PB off. Some people are severely allergic to peanuts so if you had your peanut residue on your hair it could get on your hands then transfer to a bunch of surfaces that allergic people could come in contact with

The THINGS that we, black women, will do for longer, stronger hair! THE THINGS?!

Peanut will be hard to wash out and Not to mention the ANTS and flies that will be fighting for territory in your sticky, sweet head. Good LUCK with that there! :lachen:

3/4 of black women are OBSSESSED with having hair so long that they can be mistaken for being anything but black!!:spinning:

i'd have to give it a thumbs up! i rinsed this am, my hair felt strong, but soft. feelingwise, i would compare it to how my hair feels after henna, stronger -- but much, much softer. i'd guess it's from the fat/butter & the oil. i found this old thread on peanut oil (aka groundnut oil) which had some good info:

There are many oils that are good for the hair (olive, jojoba, coconut, aloe vera, safflower, etc.); however, the best of all is peanut oil.

Peanut oil is proven to have affinity with keratin (the main protein found in the hair shaft).

The best oil that I know of, is called Essential Oil made by Keracare. Essential Oil has a very rich blend of all of the most precious oils that are good for hair.

it should go w/o saying, but if you have peanut allergies this probably is not the best choice for you.

also, i don't think using straight up peanut butter would be beneficial to your hair, lol -- at least comb out/rinse out wise -- but mixed into your conditioner, i can definitely see some benefits. i don't know if i'd do this often enough to be in a challenge, or have it become a staple, but it is nice to know you have options, & to try something new.

I posted this clip a while ago, but there was an actual movie called "The Peanut Butter Solution" about this kid whose hair grew from putting peanut butter on his head :lachen:

That was the freakiest trailer ever!! Why were 80s movies so strange?

For OP, I eat peanut butter everyday...usually on a spoon like a lollipop. I don't know if it helps with anything...I'm just greedy. I can see peanut oil maybe in a DC.

eh, to each it's own.... I'm a serious Peanut butter addict.. if it has peanut butter in it..on it.. around it.. can be added to it..i'm eating it..lol.. I probably could survive offa PBn Js lol...Iono about slapping it in my head, but Oh I WILL eat it..lol Never really noticed any differences in my hair, i'll start to pay attention.

I have no problems with washing it out.. at all. And what about HONEY that MANY people use on this board.. is that not "sticky" and "sweet"???? And maybe you haven't realized it yet but I didn't say I used it straight out of the jar....

UPDATE!!
I tried it again this morning and tried coconut oil instead. I didn't know my natural hair could feel so soft and SMOOTH. It's unbelievable. As far as the person who said that it won't penetrate the hair shaft, thank you for the insight. That didn't even cross my mind, but of course I should have known that. So with that being said I will no longer be doing it once a week for growth but instead I will be doing it for the effect of leaving my hair soft and smooth once a week :drunk:. I plan to mix it with my conditioner.

Thank you to the ladies who are keeping it real by saying PB isn't the craziest thing they've heard people use on their hair.

DON'T KNOCK AN IDEA (unless harmful to yourself) UNTIL YOU TRY IT. THAT GOES FOR EVERYTHING IN LIFE!

Thanks so much for this! Seeee PB does make your hair feel amazing!

^^ I was going to say the same thing about honey, bananas etc ... I've no idea why people are having such a severe reaction to this. We use all sorts on this board ... monistat ... bkt ...

The other thing ... I really don't know why the whole 'black women' thing had to be pointed out in this thread. Here's a thread from a board that has a predominantly white audience who had a very civil discussion about the very same idea http://longhaircommunity.com/archive/showthread.php?t=33138 There are some other posts on this same website regard this aswell, so it wasn't a one off.

I'm not saying try it/ that it'll grow you 6 inches in a month ... I guess I'm just suprised at the reaction the OP is recieving when it is the norm on this board to mix all sorts of stuff. Kinda hypocritical me thinks.

Carry on.

I eat Nutter Butter cookies almost every day (bad I know) for the past year and I have not noticed any hair growth. PB seems messy in the hair and I think it will clogs the pipes.

I'm up for this challenge! Whether it be applied to hair or eating it daily, Cause this is making me hungry:yep:

A peanut butter sandwich a day keeps other growth aides away.:giggle:
