Yes, these styles are very beautiful and they are the perfect protective style for me.

My usual protective style (old pic) is below. I want to add more hair to make the braids fuller.

I'm trying to recreate it with synthetic hair, but I haven't been successful on my own.

Very cute!!! And I also love your avi...want to try it.

I think this weekend for my jewelry party I'm going to try that AK braid.

^^^Thanks, please post pics when you try the Alica Keys style. I havent had luck doing the braid in my Avi pic yet.

I'll post pics when I do.

Have you tried braiding yor hair while wet? My tools include, Denman, Aloe Vera Gel, Castor Oil, and AO White Camelia. The AO keeps the hair moist and the wetness keeps the hair smooth, then your hair will dry thick.

I've tried braiding while it's damp, not wet. I think the issue was that I wasn't brushing my hair enough for it to lie down properly, mainly the sides and crown. I will try again soon, thanks for your input. :)

I can't french braid but I can do 1 braid. That's pretty much the extent of my braiding skills.

GORGEOUS. So do you braid under, rather than over?
Thanks Twana!
I guess so. It's the only way I can french braid. I tried the other way, but it looks wierd, though I think it probably lasts longer. Braiding under definitely gives that big, thick, braid look for me.

Wow, these French braids are really pretty. I wish I knew how to do this and had some pics to share. One of my future hair goals is to be able to wear one big French braid down my back! Oh well, I'm gonna need a few more years to thicken it up before that happens..thanks for the thread OP!

bumping...just wondering if any ladies had new styles for the summer. I want to rock some french braids. any new pics? comments? etc ???

Ceebee, me too! I really want to add hair to this. I watched several youtube videos on goddess braid techniques, but all the extension hair got so tangly and hard to manage for me. I guess I should keep trying.

I had a terrible time with the synthetic hair on my own. I haven't practiced in a while but I really want to get it so I'm going to keep trying too!

I want to relearn how to braid under instead of over. When I first learned how to french braid, that was how I learned but then when I taught myself to do over, I forgot how to braid under. i guess I need to go watch some YT. I'm sure it's on there.

I'm a lurker, but I am so glad this thread has been revisited since I've been trying to get the Alicia key's style for a week now. I was actually going to make a separate thread about this yesterday, but felt too new to the board to do so :)

Can anyone suggest a stylist in the DC area that can do that Alicia Key's style on blown out natural, BSB hair? My hair gets pretty straight with the blowdryer so I thought this was possible. But 2 braiders and one of the stylest at my favorite salon said they couldn't do it. Now I'm wondering if I'm crazy for not getting why my request is impossible.

I mean, is it impossible to do this on natural blown out hair? The two braiders admitted they prefer french braiding permed hair but I'm saying though... They also admitted that they weren't good at french braiding extensions. I didn't get a clear understanding of why this was so difficult.

Ladyraider, I can french braid my own hair, but I'm having the same struggle you were about the extention hair tangling and such. I almost got it once, but the beginning/top of the braid was a hot mess. That's when I decided to seek professional help. But they can't help me either, it seems....

Tried an old school 2 french braid the other day for fun. I don't think it's age appropriate or work appropriate for me now but it was an easy hairdo.

Great thread, thanks all you lovely ladies for the pictures! I too love a long, beautiful single braid or goddess braids. I think they are so elegant, and for me, it's the perfect spring/summer style that can be dressed up with accessories or down!

i love big braids!!! i really wanna do them. i did my extension braids alone for the first time in may so i gotta learn how to do big braids with extensions.
i was wondering why we called them "french braids" i live in paris but don't see so many people do it.

I'm back to this style for the summer. My next project is to learn how to braid underhanded and do Fish tails..

Today I had my hair in one big side braid. It was a quick stykle that took about 3 mintues to do.

Sorry I took the braid out already. But it's just like a center braid that you start at the top and braid straight back. The only difference is I combed all my hair to the side and braided it from that angle.

Loving this thread, just not sure if I wanna blow dry my hair for this style. But as thick as my hair is I'm sure I have a HAM if I didn't.

Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

I don't have any pics but I'll tell you I am an absolute fan of Goddess braids. They're my favorite type. No long hours of trying to unravel them, they look yummy and not bulky and quite easy to do. My hair is much too thick for me to do this on my own. I need help, all the time.

I LOVE this thread.
I'm so inspired to attempt cute braid styles now!

I gotta learn to french braid asap :(
