Anyone ever been hair dissapointed by others???

I'm always a little disappointed when I find out certain celebs wear extensions. When I found out that Sade wears fake hair I was like... :eek:

As far as real life, no, not too much. I'm usually not expecting much out of real life hair. Which is good because that's usually what I get when I see it...not much.:lachen:

The last time I was wowed by a woman's hair was 4 months ago when I was in Las Vegas and saw this young white woman waiting at a crosswalk with her friend. She had thick, brown, shiny, healthy, tailbone length hair. None of that fairytale ends crap either, it was thick all the way to the ends.

The last time I was wowed before that? Who knows? Years probably.

Oh that sounds so annoying. What questions was she asking. if you don't mind me asking? :look:

I hate when stuff like that happens (in general), it's like they are fishing for compliments (got that saying from here, :lol:). I don't like to say negative stuff either. But dang.

Sooooo, did you touch it??? :lachen:

Her nosy monologue started with her asking if my hair wet and, after nodding in the affirmative, she continued on from there. She asked an assortment of unanswered questions, but they mainly centered on her astonishment with me wearing damp hair outside during the winter because she kept saying, “Wow, I can’t believe that your hair is wet.” At one point, she wore an expression that seemed to ask if she can touch it, but I guess my expression prevented her from following through with that request.:grin:

And, no I didn’t touch her hair; it looked rather...well…combustible.:lachen:

I find that most of the women I've come across IRL with long hair are either really shy about or not phased about their hair at all! The one girl I know who did have somewhat long hair and bragged about it all the time got it snatched out! :lachen:

I am def a hair snob and I find myself SMMFH on a daily basis at the HAM I see. Sometimes I find myself smirking and laughing on the inside, because I know advice will fall on deaf ears.

A lot of ppl mistake NL hair for SL. I think I did this while relaxed too until my hair actually became SL.

Here's mine... :look:

When I entered high school it was predominately Asian and there was a small group of black people that were all REALLY ghetto. Think of weird multi-coloured wigs/weaves/braids and wearing your soiled sleeping scarf to a strict Catholic school when you're supposed to wear nothing but the uniform. :ohwell:
With that aside, there's nothing wrong with being ghetto but because I wasn't like them and didn't hang out with them (because I hung out with the Asians), some of them made it a point to show I was different. Nothing extreme like bullying but awkward stares and side eyes, especially when it came to my hair. (One was actually a "friend"/acquaintance of mine and asked me if I put braids in my hair, when I said no I got the side eye... :perplexed)

Anyway, there was another one in the group that was half white and half black that I guess liked my hair. Although we didn't get along well, she was semi-nice or civil when it came to talking about hair. She always wore braids and since most of the people in her group that wore braids/weaves had dry hair when they took it out I assumed that her hair looked a HAM underneath it all too. One day after I got a compliment about my hair from my Asian friend she made it a point to tell me afterward, "Oh my hair's like yours without a relaxer. You know, because I'm mixed." I'm like, "Oh that's great, wear it out sometime." I decided to butter her up even though I KNEW her hair wouldn't be stick straight naturally but gave her the benefit of the doubt in terms of the condition of her hair because I thought maybe she used braids to grow it out.
Well I wish I never asked because my assumption was right. She wore it out for only ONE day and it was uneven, stringy, STIFF, and DRIER than a desert. It looked like a texlax/relaxer gone wrong, it was worse than my initial expectation. She made a point to show it off to me while I gave her a blank look and never complimented her on it. I don't think anyone complimented her. Her WHOLE group basically HATED me after that and I got side eyes and weird whispers anytime I'd fix my hair in the mirror near my locker. :sad:

I guess I'm a hair snob and don't even know it. :rolleyes: Probably more so now because of LHCF with all the natural and relaxed ladies with MBL+ and the advanced tips and advice you see on here. I swear sometimes I think the ladies in the real world don't stand a chance once we all reach our goal. :grin:

Hmm, I'm trying to think if, since I started my HHJ, I have been disappointed...not really...I may have a personal "wha wha" moment when I realize that a person whose hair I thought was long and lush is really a weave but I don't think that I've had one brag and then when I finally see it am devastated...

First, let me say that this thread is hilarious! :lachen:

I can't say that I've run into any braggards either. My disappointment is always when I think I'm about to get a close up on some delicious hair porn, it turns out to be an obvious weave. I HATE THAT!!! UGH!

I'm already up in everybody's hair since I've started coming to this board ~ quietly giving hubby the rundown on length and any other comments that just fall out. But, for instance, when I saw this beautiful woman with this lush, wavy mbl hair coming my way, about to sit down right in front of me, I was pretty excited. Until...I could see her short, broken hair trying to blend with the weave and then...gasp!...tracks. Whatever. :rolleyes: Move your big ol' head outta my way, woman! With your high quality, poorly installed weave. Uh, and trim those ends, for pete's sake!

Yup this happened to me, at the gym. I was too far to see if was real, I had my doubts, but from a far it looked like it could be grown from the scalp. Fast forward a few months, I see the chick at the gym again. Now I am all up in her head, she finally walks past, I see the trying to blend. And she dayum sure walked around the gym like she owned it, swinging that weave. But I figured it had to be fake cuz who in their right mind would go to the gym with butt length thick hair out, with just a head band to help with the blend of course, to work out?

I don't understand that at all, how you gonna try and school someone with luscious hair on what to do, when yours is a hot mess, whether short or long. If I saw a stylist with healthy SL hair I would listen. But otherwise?:perplexed

Thanks exoticmommie! I really want to make some suggestions to them, but they won't be able to hear me because they have the "license" and all.... :ohwell:

I have been tricked by the weave too. This past Easter Sunday at church. There was this woman with MBL hair. And she was swinging it slightly to the music. I couldn't stop looking. :drool:

We have several non black women in our church who like to do the flip, and run there hands in the hair and toss it all around (toss it left, toss it right, toss it back. I am surprised they don't just get about and start swinging it in circles). :rolleyes:

So when I saw her I was so proud. Well any who, I am very bad at spotting weaves, unless it's obvious. Later when we sat down and it wasn't swinging any more. I could see her over processed ends sticking out from the rest in some spots. The coloring on the ends (you know that kinda brown color from over heating or overprocssing) made it obvious. It was about NL.

But I will still hoping the hair slingers couldn't tell. :look:

:lachen::lachen::lachen:

The hair she used was so thick and luscious, I couldn't have been the only one to notice.

This winter, a lady was commenting on my somewhat damp ponytail while waiting in line at the drug store. I said nothing during her monologue because I do not feel obligated to answer the unsolicited questions of strangers.

Then, she says, "But it's nice and shiny. Mine is nice and shiny, too. And, real soft;" after which, she whips off her Florida Evans wool hat to reveal a field of bright, orange-hued wheat. I really dislike making negative comments about someone's hair, but she had one of the weirdest, driest blond dye jobs I have ever seen; the color, to me, resembled that of a bleached penny.

I was at a loss for words, especially after she encouraged me to touch it.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:DAYUM DAYUM DAYUM

Girl for real, one of them is so bad. I don't know her name, so I refer to her as the Hispanic lady who be tossing her hair every where. And people know exactly who I talking about. :lachen:

I don't think no one knows her name. We just know she was on the hunt for a black man when she got there. (And yes she got one now).

I really feel her and the others wouldn't do this in a majority non black church. I feel it makes them feel superior to us bald headed black womens. :rolleyes:

Yeah I know a couple of people who are SL with thin ends and they think their hair is long and luxurious. If they came here they'd be traumatized. I never say anything. If they like it .. I love it. I don't see either of them regularly and when I do I'm in a bun or a braid out.

:nono::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: Too funny.

yes! i was so embarrassed, for the both of us. i didn't want to be mean or call her out on the delusions about progress and hair type, so i just acted surprised and happy.

it does take some people a while to absorb all the tips here and figure out what their hair needs so maybe she is still on her journey. ♥

:lachen: Ya'll crazy up in here!!!

Yeah...when i feeel like i wanna brag about my hair...i go straight to the "long haired ladies, can i live vicariously through you thread":lachen:...at least i feel i have the right to do it there bc thats what that thread is for.

But honestly...bc i try to still be realistic...i look at SL-APL hair and think its the LONGEST hair ever!!:laugh:...but fa real i do.

Can't believe it's ME saying this, but just because it was above SL doesn't mean it wasn't great hair.....

You know, I was thinking the same thing after I wrote my initial response. It's definitely not just about length. I used my illustration because I immediately thought about these particular ladies who are always bragging about their length.

I'll tell you this, though. Hanging around this place will give you higher expectations about hair health and appearance, PERIOD. In real life I can see someone with a twa or just starting a head of twists or even a healthy nice short cut and if it's nice hair, I can really appreciate it. You can tell when somebody is working a good reggie.

So, yeah. It's definitely not about length, texture, style or any of the typical criterion people use to talk about hair. Like you said ... great hair is just great hair.
