OOh.

How about when you find out it's not all theirs?

I wore a fake pontail on a visit to Orlando. My cousin bust out " Let me comb your hair!!!" She was all excited and went into her room immediately to get a brush.
She was combing the weave. It took a mintue for me to realize that she didn't know.

This reminds me of my sis. She always thinks her hair is so long. Breaks her neck bending so it can appear longer. Before I moved back to the home state she use to tell me how long it was. It was SL. I wore wigs all the way from SL to BSL so she didn't see it for a while. I didn't mention it, but when she finally saw my hair her mouth dropped. I let her rollerset it because she just had to touch it.

So I BCed and she got mad at me. She went back to talking about how her hair is long. Fast Forward to last week I had my puff going. She pulls a curl. Mouth drops again. I love her so I won't hurt her feeling by saying she must be doing something wrong.

I can't lie, I am a lot more aware of Black women's hair when I am walking around campus. I see some raggedy natural & relaxed heads. LHCF has spoiled all of us! We are used to looking at healthy heads of hair on a daily basis.

I agree that there are a lot of sistah's who would be shocked about what healthy hair looks like! I think a lot of times we don't actually believe that it can be achieved, so we (not all Black people, but you know what I mean) assume that those who have long healthy hair have good hair or it's their genes. So ANY type of length is valued regardless of health.

Do ya'll remember that chick from Tyra Bank's good hair episode? The one that kept flipping her hair around talking about "white girl flow" or whatever it was...she was a lil longer than SL. All I remember is thinking her hair ain't really all that! She should come in LHCF lol...

the time this happened to me was a stylist i went to. she told me all about her real hair. she had a weave and used it to grow her hair. i wanted to do the same so i was hyped to see her hair.

when i went for my appt her hair was out of the weave. it was a hot mess. it was not long. (about shoulder length) i dont care about length but she said it was long....so i expected long. it was scraggly and see through and obviously damaged from the weave or something.....:ohwell:

anyways...she roller set my hair that day and i found another stylist.:nono:

Kinda sorta. People will go on and on about how they had long hair years ago or how it was "longer than yours even!" and I see the pics like "huh?"

@ Bolded: yessss!!! i so saw that episode and homegirl was getting on my nerves talkin about her white girl flow bout to break her neck..that episode was a juicy one.. :D

I'm more bothered about her bragging about her booty and her being light-skinned especially to another woman. Like this makes her all that- chile please! Is that all she could talk about and why would she expect you to even care? Some women are a trip!

This just happened to me yesterday. A co worker has been wearing a wig or phony pony for quite some months(almost a yr)I have even seen her at the gym but she usually has on a scarf. I low key thought she was niko's cousin, thinking she was PSing.

Yesterday she wears her real hair which looked nice but she was grazing SL. I was disappointed. Then on the way to the parking lot, she mentions that
*She hadn't permed in 3 months (in my head I said yaay she stretches)
* it take 45 mins everyday to curl it with the curling iron (I interjected, why don't you use rollers or pin curl)
*She had made a resolution to herself to do her hair everyday(yes use the curling iron every day)
* the heat doesn't damage her hair because of the wax she uses protects it. (I said ooooh ok.)
next yr, she will definately still be at SL while I'm inching my way to BSL

I know someone (whom I don't like) who is ALWAYS bragging about your LONG hair :pinocchio
and I must admit that before I came on this board I would have agreed.

But looking back the b%^%£ was shoulder length, thinking she was bra-strap
:evillaugh:

Would love to send her an anomymous :wasntme: package containing:
  • Measuring T-shirt
  • A pic of Supergirls head & a card with LHCF web address
I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THAT ONCE I REACH MY GOAL I WILL NEVER TRY AND MAKE ANYONE FEEL ANY LESS THAN ME BECUZ OF IT ITS :censored: HAIR

Its a shame that as a collective group of black people SOME really torture each other over something so stupid its :censored: HAIR

Rant Over

I'm disappointed by my own hair when I get it straightened. Even though I'm very happy for my progress it surprises me when others black women see my hair flat ironed they actually think its long!!!! LOL, and I'm not even APL yet. Yes I have been spoiled by the hair on this board!!!

this made me laugh. I kind of get hair disappointed when I just KNOW a certain celebrity's hair is real and then find out it's not. ugh.

for example: I love Jada Pinkett's hair and I hope to never find out it's not hers. it's inspiring knowing where her hair has been and where it is now.

Ya know if it wasn't for LHCF. I probably would have been. But all I could focus on was the hair.

I agree, I would never ever want to make someone feel less then because my of my hair (or anything else) even if it was BSL or longer. I really feel that hair is a very sensitive subject in the black community. Let your hair do the talking, and if someone asks about it, take the opportunity to give some tips.

I feel you, I was happy with my progress last time I straightened, but disappointed. And coming here seeing all that APL and beyond hair don't help. We ain't never satisfied!:lachen:

You are so right, I LOVE HER HAIR,, and I would be soooo disappointed. For me she be repping. :look:

Ooh I can so relate to this. My sister (we have the same father) lives in Houston and she always brags about how long her hair is. I remember her telling me that she had to chop 4 inches and it was still down her back..blah blah blah. I asked her how she got her hair to grow so long and she sent me her whole reggie and advice along with it. I hadn't seen her for about 4 years until 3 days ago. Her hair is just past SL like mine. The way she talks about it I would have thought it would be BSL or something.

This winter, a lady was commenting on my somewhat damp ponytail while waiting in line at the drug store. I said nothing during her monologue because I do not feel obligated to answer the unsolicited questions of strangers.

Then, she says, "But it's nice and shiny. Mine is nice and shiny, too. And, real soft;" after which, she whips off her Florida Evans wool hat to reveal a field of bright, orange-hued wheat. I really dislike making negative comments about someone's hair, but she had one of the weirdest, driest blond dye jobs I have ever seen; the color, to me, resembled that of a bleached penny.

I was at a loss for words, especially after she encouraged me to touch it.

Oh that sounds so annoying. What questions was she asking. if you don't mind me asking? :look:

I hate when stuff like that happens (in general), it's like they are fishing for compliments (got that saying from here,). I don't like to say negative stuff either. But dang.

Sooooo, did you touch it??? :lachen:

Someone I know has natural hair but she wears sew-ins all the time. She's been wearing sew-ins pretty much for the whole year since my big chop. During that time, she made it her priority to bring up how thick her fro was under her sew-in every day. I thought that was great! lol and I'd always tell her that was great, but some days she'd even bring up that her hair was longer than mine. Like once we went swimming and she asked how long my hair took to dry and she said "Well mine is going to take forever! It's so much longer and thicker than yours!" or something lol (Mine is a bit longer than hers now hehe)

Anyway so she finally wore her hair out and it was so underwhelming (really thin and dry). And when she wore it straight it wasn't even SL. Then she had the nerve to give me her stylist's contact info. I was like "No thanks, I don't like stylists."

What kind of hairarexia is that??? :lachen:

Anyway! One day she came up to me at work and said, "my hair is growing!" and I stood there with a stone face, paralyzed, ... because I couldn't comment at all.

To make matters worse, she continued to talk about her hair and how her husband is noticing her "length" ... almost trying to bait me to also chime in and go, "oh yes it looks great!" even though it looks terrible :(

Hmmm...maybe you could kinda nudge her in the right direction, like asking her what kind of poo/condish she uses and when she tells you say "Oh I have some stuff that would be great for you, I found it on [whatever board/blog/website you'd like to direct her to] and hope she finds lhcf and healthy hair practices. You could even give her some of your unused stuff if you wanted.

I know it's hard cuz her ish is kinda raggedy, but she wants to grow her hair so maybe if you kinda talk to her about stuff in a roundabout way, she'll pick it up on her own.:yep:

Yep. I had a biracial friend who used to brag all the time about her hair being super long. Longer than mine. You know that's a good friend. You have to know about the games black girls play " Mine is longer."

Anyway I finally saw it.....

One half of her hair was earlength and the other half was APL. Well that's when I learned than not all mixed girls have long, healthy hair.

Black girls do play that game, I thought I was the only one who noticed. "I have a friend/cousin/sister who's hair is long--Longer that yours--- Like, here" [points to an area of the body that is very close to where yours ends]:lachen::lachen::lachen:

And yep, all mixed/light girls don't have gorgeous flowing locks. Glad LHCF gives us access to ladies of all colors and mixes who have beautiful, healthy, lucious locks:drunk:.

IRL many of us still think Full NL/ SL hair is long.

If its healthy I will applaud. On the other hand my expectations have totally changed and if its failing.. I won't burst bubbles.. same way I won't entertain it.

First of all, LHCF has changed my hair prospective forever! I notice things now that I would have never seen before.

Anyway, I am always disapointed when I see someone who is a professional stylist with messed-up hair. A couple of these ladies attend the same church that I do, so I see them regularly. I hear them giving advice (one of them tried to give me some :perplexed) and I just shake my head, and thank God for for LHCF!!

My cousin came for my graduation and she couldn't stop commenting on my hair. What did I do? What is different? It looks so good. Now she has type two hair, but I think it is rare to see women with full nl or sl hair outside this board and she was remarking at how my hair had changed since she saw me last a year ago.

And no I did NOT share lhcf with her. She has type two hair like my mother. I WOULD share it with her teen daughter if I got the chance however

That's true, and what's sad, is that most of the non black women I see, over here, have hair that is apl or longer. (Of course there some that are shorter). So it must be a I have long hair for a black woman, type thing. I don't care what your hair type is, and whether you are natural or relaxed. I just LOVE to see black women with LONG HEALTHY hair.

I don't understand that at all, how you gonna try and school someone with luscious hair on what to do, when yours is a hot mess, whether short or long. If I saw a stylist with healthy SL hair I would listen. But otherwise?:perplexed
