Have any Naturals/Relaxers forgotten what it's like on the "other side"?

I think I have. If I relaxed again I 'd have to start learning all over again and its only been about 3 yrs since my last relaxer. Even if I flat iron I know in my mind that the kinks will be back. I was relaxed for about 7 years! Anyone else? (Just for fun thread)

ETA: No, I have no plans on switching either.

yep! Im planning on relaxing soon, and I feel like a baby, i need all the info I can get right about now...:)

I have been relaxed since I was like 13...I am 32 now. I am going from bone straight to texturized, but lawd, I wouldn't know what to do with my natural hair!

Mmmmm not really. If someone were to pay me a million bucks to relax my hair (the only circumstance under which I'd relax again) I'd pretty much know what I have to do....I'd co-wash often, seal with a light oil...rollerset...pony-tail rollerset, braid-out, flat-twist out and occasionally flat iron. The only major thing that would change is I would have to actually be diligent about DCing....as a natural I pretty much DC when the wind strikes me.....its very sporatic, but I know if I relaxed I'd have to be on top of my DCing and protien treatments and moisture treatments etc:perplexed

I've long forgotten what it's like to have relaxed hair. But I looooooooooooove my natural hair so much it's easy for me not to have relaxed hair flashbacks .

Same here....I don't really think about relaxed hair.....I'm far too head over heels in love with my coils and the way it can shape shift to care really:look:.......:giggle:

I was relaxed from age seven or eight to twenty three. I would normally just wrap my relaxed hair and occassionally wear pincurled updos, so no I haven't forgotten.

I do enjoy not having to worry about the wind blowing my hair out of place or making sure my hair has enough body. I love to feel the wind blowing through my hair now. :)

I was relaxed for far too long 30+ yrs...3+ yrs natural & the smell of relaxer still nauseates me every time I pass a beauty shop.

Nah...it wasnt that too long ago. My one year natural anniversary is on friday. I was sitting next to a girl today in class who had a lot of dandruff in her hair (she was relaxed) and it made me think of my relaxing days.

My last relaxer was over 19 years ago; all I remember is that relaxers never had much effect on my hair, so much so that I don't even know when all the relaxed hair was finally gone.

i haven't forgot anything because i've never been there. i like my hair big and fluffy too much to ever relax. i miss my hair when i straighten it i just couldn't

i would relax in a heart beat if the price was right, starting at £10, 000 and up

This was assuming you've been on the "other side" as most women have. I think its something to be admired when someone has never relaxed. Throughout all the peer pressure (if any) and annoying times, or thoughts of straight hair being easier, they never gave in. Not that its bad if you do, but is definitely rare.

I'm not trying to take any credit away from carib n curly, but generally speaking most people didn't have a choice. I remember the, "How Old Were You When You Had Your First Relaxer," thread and the vast majority were between 6-10.

I honestly think more girls would choose not to relax if their moms didn't make this choice for them out of "convenience".

its been 3 years for me and i remember :)
we had some great times, but im enjoying the effortless fullness of my hair now :yep:

i also dont miss sleeping on rollers EVERY wash day....

I like my relaxed hair back in early 2007 when it was nice and thick and I hated my relaxed hair in late 2007 when it thinned out badly. I like my natural hair also b/c this is when I really learned about how to take care of my hair so I know that if I every decide to relax or telax again, I don't think I would have a problem especially w/ all the relaxed heads in this forum.

Except for the stacked salt'n'pepa cut from back in the day, my relaxed hair was wack:ohwell: and my sensitive scalp was traumatized.

I'm natural and I know that I have. I know if I put a relaxer in my hair now, it would probably fall all out. I wouldn't know the first thing to do except for come to LHCF for some "newbie" relaxer help. :)

Well, I was natural for the first 20 years of my life, then I was relaxed-straight. I remember both periods of my life...well. Now I am texlaxed, and this is by far my favorite hair style.

I'm texlaxed, I've transitioned more than once in my adult life and I stretch my relaxers 3-6 months @ a time so I see my curls... no chance of forgetting as I enjoy both "worlds" often enough.

I wil have to re-learn how to treat my hair if relaxed. I'm too confortable iwth my hair now.

i think i will know what to do(not that i would ever relax again anyway). my hair loves protein, co washing and overnight deep conditioning. and i know the ingredients my relaxed hair loved too. no biggie.

I'm natural and I try to think about how my hair was relaxed and I can't remember for the life of me!!! I don't remember what it looked like on me, or felt like, or smelt like. I can only remember what length it was throughout high school, burning my forehead with a curling iron on a regular (read daily) basis, and trying not to let tears slide down my face while waiting for my relaxer to take :spinning:.

You two are gorgeous examples of texlaxing:yep: they need to put yall on the perm box!

I just posted in another thread that I have been natural for 2yrs and I have forgotten all about relaxer for my hair. Now I still relax my cousin's hair, but its not the same. If I had to relax my hair again, it would be a whole new learning process.
