How short is too short for a ponytail?

When is it just trifling to try to put your hair in a ponytail? Is there a certain number of inches you need to have a decent ponytail?

Since my mini chop, I'm right above SL and I really want a pony...

My hair is probably shorter than yours and I wear a ponytail most of the time. I'm sure the long hair ladies would probably frown upon my itty bitty pony, but I don't care. I still look cute :giggle:

I attached some pics. I don't always wear the tendrils. Sorry for the pic quality. I took the pics with my webcam.

tendrils makes hairstyles class in an instant. As long as you don't feel stress or get headaches from the pony I say go for it. After all it's your hair.

I like your pony:yep: My hair is a btw SL and APL and it NEVER looks good in a pony:nono:. My hair does not lay flat like yours, i think is the layers I have, and my back is sooo much shorter than the front. :wallbash:

I'm about 2 inches from apl and I have sworn off ponies until I reach full apl. I just hate how my hair looks in a pony right now.

I realized I was doing the worst protective style ever this week. I curled my hair and then pulled it back into a pony. BUT the only pony part I had was the last inch to inch and a half of my ends.

I got to think that was pretty stupid. You want to protect your ends. That little bit of ponytail that I have isn't THAT exciting... enough to warrant leaving my ends out. I decided that pony was a dumb move!

kandake, your pony is cute!
my hair is about that length you have in your avatar since i recently cut it into a bob, but due to all the layering i don't think it can quite make a pony...i might have to try that

My hair only forms a nice pony without too much hassle/strain when my hair is pressed. Otherwise I'm pretty content with a pony puff, and I started wearing one even when it probably was rather insulting to all other pony puffs coz I hardly had hair for one. (OK, don't laugh too hard coz when I braided my hair to get some stretch, the pony looked a bit better than that: see? LOL)

You can also make it protective if you used a phony puff over the section of your hair where you normally have a puff and baggy the section under the phony puff.

The day I can make a natural pony like MizzBrit, y'all won't be able to tell me nuffin.

Your Pony is soooo cute, you are pretty also!

I think that nape length and above is too short for a ponytail.
Like, if you have to struggle to force the hair into the holder and need like 50-11 bobby pins to keep it there, then you probably should just leave the ponytail alone for a few more months.

But that said, IMO, the condition of the hair also has alot to do with how good it looks in a ponytail. Not just the length. I've definitely seen girls with short, thick ponytails that look really cute. And I've seen girls with long, scraggly, thin ponytails that look a HAM.

well.. i recently just started wearing mine "out"
as long as the hair doesn't look thin and scraggly..or you aren't getting a facelift when doing one..i think its cool

It really just depends on your hair. I had a friend who is mbl, but even when she was barely SL I was jealous of her ponytail. It was just so full! I hate wearing ponies, even at this length.

I think it depends on the person. If it can fit in a pony, then why not? There are always ways to dress it up.

If all you have is a little nub, then a pony tail is probably not a good idea. It looks much better when you have a full tail or puff, otherwise, it's hard to classify it as a "tail".

Try a banana clip instead of the ponytail for now. I'm about two inches from APL as well and while I don't have an impressive ponytail yet, my hair looks AWESOME in a banana clip!!!!:drunk::drunk::yep:

That's an awesome idea  , and if the hair isn't long enough to look as full as yours, one can cornrow the little tuft that sticks out and give the illusion of having a long braid. ;)

When I BC'd my first ponytail looked more like a pig tail LOL It was just awful
Luckily I was able to ponytail with natural hair since the curls gave me a nice puff.

I think that if you're going to ponytail short hair, don't do it if you'll have 3 pieces of hair coming out of the scrunchie LOL fighting for its dear life.

I agree with banana clips :yep:
I've also done two pony's right on top of each other in the back, to cheat a little and create faux length

Awe, thanks. That was sweet of you.

That is impressive.

I think I want to venture into the world of banana clips. I'm subscribed to legallycutes YT channel. She posted this banana clip style yesterday.

If the hairs are screaming "let me in, let me in!" and the ponytail holder is screaming "not by the hairs of my chinny chin chin", your hair is too short for a ponytail.

Seriously, I've seen women with ponytails that were 3 inches long and looked just fine. What matters most is that the hair is healthy, the ends are in excellent condition, there's no visible breakage or fly-aways. It should look sleek and deliberate.

I don't wear ponytails because they look so thin with my hair (I'm between SL and APL). However, my hair is fierce with a banana clip! :lachen: I always get so many compliments when I roll my hair and pull it back with a banana clip. The curls are always so pretty. Try it!

I wore a pony today, and I tore my apt up looking for my digi cam so I can take a pic.

But I think I'll try the banana clip tomorrow. :yep:
