Yes, you read that right. I've been natural for 5+ years and last night I did my FIRST twistout (I only did 8 twists) ....

(really just a wash n' go girl but got tired of the wet head since I've given up heat and needed something 'else')

The report: Even though it looks very similar to my natural curl pattern (I separated the twists and did a light finger rake), I really, really enjoy the controlled definition with the softness that's missing when I use a holding product with my usual wash n' go. Whaddya think?!

what did you use? did you do it like cornrows or off the scalp?

For styling I used a Kid's Organics Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Lotion/water/glycerin mix and a shea butter/almond oil/coconut oil/avocado oil mix that I made. I only did 8 twists ... girl, I couldn't cornrow if my life depended on it (well, maybe if it were life and death ).

It's the opposite :-( ... I've been told repeatedly that I look more attractive with my hair straightened. It's been a JOURNEY learning to embrace my curls and I'm soooo thankful for LHCF and the natural hair boards and blogs that are helping me learn about the best products and methods, etc. I'm still on the journey ... some days I have to try reaaaally hard to not make the trip to the salon. Thanks for the compliment hon :).

Only 8 twists? Wow! I have to do 20+ to get such defined results, I'm jealous! Your hair looks beautiful!

Isn't funny how twistouts can look so similar to the natural curl pattern, yet behave so differently?

OMG, yes!!! At first when I saw it, I was like, great ... it looks just like my hair with some Curly Meringue in it :-/. But then I felt it and it was soooft (not slightly crispy and "held") ... and I *don't* have to jump under the shower-head in the morning to repeat the process! I'm soooo down with this twistout thing, lol. I just need to figure out how to get the roots as defined as the rest of it .....

BTW, love the mei tai in your avi ;-)
