Am I the only one that feels like this? It always leaves my hair so dry. What can I do to prevent this?

I comb thru some leave in and let it hang... I ended up with a crazy mess which I half way want to rewash and try again. :lachen: When Ive tried before, i air dried in a pony tail but it took too long to dry where my hair was banded AND it also matted. :wallbash:

Have you tried using the scarf method? It's when you place a scarf on your hair, tighten to comfortability, and let your hair hang. I use this method every time.

No, I dont think Ive ever heard of doing it this way before. May have to try it. I dont want to be a slave to my blow dryer.

I hate air drying too which is why I started roller setting. But when I don't have time pr energy to roller set, I can have a decent air drying with a really moisturizing deep conditioner(this is essential), some leave-in and a good oil to seal, I bun and do the scarf method. Not too bad.

What's your deep conditioner?

I don't like airdrying either. It makes my ends look horrible. I think it is OK to blowdry as long as your hair is healthy and well conditioned.

I agree withe the scarf method! It seems really simple, but it works. I used it at 16 weeks post and my ends and new growth layed flat!

after u put ur leave-in, I'd say, put it in like 4 braids, then airdry. Half way through, u can undo the braids, comb, then put the scarf on.

Try different things, the scarf method works, also depending on the length of your hair you could wrap it. Is your hair well moisturized in general? You could also airdry in twists or braids if you're not opposed to waves...
Air drying is AWESOME!
you don't have to be a slave to your blowdryer! why should you? shoot!! You WILL find a method that works for you, i'm sure of it.

I use cholestrol as my dc and i pre pooed with aussie moist. My leave ins were Aphogee Provitamin leave in Spray and a touch of Neutrogena Silk Touch Leave in cream. I'll try the scarf method one day but idk...something tells me my 10 month old ng is gonna give it a run for its money!!!

I never leave my hair to hang. I tried that and my hair was a mess. Now, I airdry in braids and my hair feels lovely.

Leting it hang and playing with some of it was a HUGE MISTAKE!! My 5 inches of new growth is all types of bunched up. I just asked my mom to help me and she looked like she wanted to cry. She said she didnt know how she could help. LOL Looks like im on my own as far as flat ironing goes. One micro small section at a time...

My hair is like this too. Some hair types thrive when heat is used. Air drying hair that likes heat can be hard to get smooth. By sitting under a dryer with heat, you can get the benefits of air drying without the long drying time. There is something about the hair staying wet longer that make my hair angry.

Air drying is a :nono: for me. I thought I was doing a good thing with my personal no-heat challenge, but air drying left my ends a mess! If I section it off while damp and braid it, it all mats together after it's dry. Scarf method didn't improve things either.

Bottom line, do what works best for your hair.

I airdry in twists and I love it. I apply my leave-in, moisturizer, and oil while my hair is wet.

Working with the hair while it is wet (or damp) and not letting it hang is very important if you want to airdry successfully. Maybe you can put your hair in a loose bun and use the scarf method for the hair that isn't in the bun.

I love air drying. I typically use the scarf method, and let it hang, If I want it really smooth I use the scarf method with two loose pony tails.

When airdrying you can't just let your hair hang especially this time of year. The air is dry and your hair will be dry. You should apply your leave-in/moisturizer then brush or comb your hair flat and put a scarf on your head. If your hair has some length, tuck your ends. Then let it air dry this way. You will end up with moisturized smooth hair. You can also air dry in braids, twist, rollerset, or a bun. Whatever you do make sure to cover your hair that is one of the keys to air drying.

FWIW, I air dry all the time and I am over 60 weeks post. It works great but you need to work on your technique.

I've had lots of success with airdrying. I believe it really helped me to grow my hair to waist length in the past.

My hair hates airdrying. When I do it it always comes out hard and crunchy and it breaks. I rather sit under a hodded dryer.

I haven't had success with it either. I end up with dryness, breakage, tangles and single strand knots all over.

Whimsy is absolutely correct and so are you...... airdrying IS hard...... UNTIL.... you find a method that works for you. Finding a technique that works for your hair is the hardest part... but boy is the payoff worth it once you succeed. It took me over a year to perfect my airdrying method, and shoot, I bet there are other methods that will work better for my hair that I have yet to discover.

Airdrying works for me under the following pretenses:

#1) Hair is super moisturized (I have to DC overnight on dry hair with a moisturizing conditioner)
#2) I have to slick my hair back into two ponytails (top and lower half)
#3) Must apply leavein, serum, and EVOO
#4) Must occasionally comb/smooth/brush hair while it's drying to have a sleek look

Maybe some of those products are not working for you if your hair doesn't feel good once it dries.

Have you seen sylver2's 11 month post NG? Look here
Here texture is 4a/b.
If she can do it, we all can.

I can't say that I hate air drying OP. I actually love it. I use a good leave in treatment. Salerm 21 Silk leave in with B5 is awesome and leaves my hair feeling quite silky too. The only thing is it's filled with cones and I have to clarify every 3 weeks when I use it.

I have recently been using my Alba Botanica leave in conditioner more though. Since I protective style using wigs, frizziness is not an issue for me. I simply moisturize my ends, seal them after they are almost dry, braid in big plaits and slap my wig on. Too easy for words:yep:.

Love the green bolded Reecie. This should work for me as well when I am not protective styling my hair.
