Since giovanni direct leave in didn't really work for me I am going to trying diluting it with spring water and a little aphogee green tea restructrizer and use it as a braid spray so I can use the product without waste.

its not something i would do unless my hair was in twists or braids and i just rinsed my hair. then i would do it and seal with oil. but on out hair it doesnt make much since to me. i understand water is the ultimate moisturizer but it wont work alone for me.

I do this sometimes. If I'm trying to maintain curls and don't want to run moisturizer all through it, I'll just spritz with my rosewater and rub a little oil over it.

If my hair feels really dry, I'll spray with water first, and then apply the moisturizer, and then seal; normally I'd just do moisturizer though.

In short, hair can take up water but it cannot hold on to the water if left in the same environment as before. Hair will lose any 'excess' water to balance itself with its environment.
Therefore if you simply spray hair with water and nothing more the additional water to the hair will eventually evaporate and you are back at square one.

Tomorrow, I will introduce the effective moisturiser techniques. Most of these are based on
1. Trying to stop evaporation of water from the surface
2. Holding on to the existing water

Absolutely right, thats why we seal to hold the water in.

I only use water, I will either rinse my hair in the shower everymorning or spray with distilled water and seal with an oil.

This is intriguing. I'm running out of my No Drip S-Curl Activator Moisturizer. I may just fill it with water and a little olive oil when it's done and see how that works.

hi ladies!

great thread!

do any of you use herbal waters?

i live in a hard water city and first started with acv and distilled water as a final rinse.
then i read about the benifits of rinsing with herbal waters which are made like regular "tea" using herbs like: rosemary, sage, thyme, basil, mint, celery leaves, horsetail, nettle, etc...

i was wondering if there are particular herbs which are good for moisturizing and if anyone has tried using these in distilled water.....
thanks ladies!

Water is the best. No point in spraying a water based conditioner, may as well just use water. Your hair won't feel as gunked down the next day. I think just water is a great idea to refresh and bring some moisture back into the hair...

Sometimes I do this just for a quick fix when I am bunning. I use my spray bottle to lightly spray my hair and then seal with an oil or so.

You must have hair is the 3's. I am a 4bz and this would not work for me as I keep my hair in a blow dry state and it would revert.

bumping for responses.....

anybody know about herbs that are good for making into tea for moisture?

thx!

I dip my comb in filtered water when rollersetting; it helps with detangling.

And I use a bit of it to make my hair damp when doing a ponytail. But I always use a moisturizer afterwards.

As a quick moisturizer between washes I put coconut oil in my hair pin up loosly with a bear claw and take a hot steamy shower. It softens my hair and moisturizes it til my next wash.

I do this when I am re-braiding a braid out. I spritz with water and seal with coconut oil and then braid. It leaves my braidout nice and soft.

I ran out of my SCurl a week ago so I've just been filling the bottle with water and using that and sealing with coconut oil. Works really nicely! I've found that I don't have as much build up over the week. I think I'll mix my SCurl with more water for more balance. This is a great idea.

I just moisturized my twists this morning with water in a spray bottle and my hair feels so light and wonderful.

Then again it's freshly deep conditioned so that might have something to do with it.

I agree w/this method. If my hair has been well deep conditioned I can use water followed by a good sealant like shea butter or olive oil. I can do this a couple of days after deep conditioning and it can work pretty well.

I have on braids at the moment and I moisturize with water and then spray over it with my BRX braid spray. My hair is soft using this method, but I still need product in addition to water.

I'm natural with 4a hair and about a month ago I started water rinsing in the shower everyday and airdrying with my satin scarf and my hair has never looked shinier! I love love love this! (Especially since the leave-in I was using had a bunch of "bad" stuff in it.) I didn't know my kinky hair could reflect light like this LOL.

Sometimes, while soaking wet, I seal with EVCO but most of the time it's so buttery soft I don't need to. (The soaking wet part seemed important when doing this cuz I once sealed naked hair when it was 50% dry and that felt drying.)

i just moisturized with water BUT it wasn't just water....it was a tea!

i put some burdock root, mint, lavender, rosemary, etc... in a teapot, let it cool, then spritzed my hair with it!

now, i'm sipping a cup of it, too!:lick:
