Moisturize With JUST Water?

99% of u are saying u moisturize w/water & some sort of dc and/or oil.

even w/4a, 4b, textures like mine?

im afraid that once the water dries my roots will look like Buck Wheat's underneath relaxed hair. completely 2 different textures, and a HAM at work/church/school!

Do i re-wet it whn tht happens? Pony tail and/or Bun it so that it's pulled and dries straight?

im not leaving it down/loose all day after this water treatment am i?

i don't know if i'm 4a or 4b, but i'm texlaxed and have fine hair.

i have a girlfriend who keeps her coarse thick BSL hair scrunched up all summer just for this reason. she lives in nyc and figures with the heat/humidity, there's no need to even try to keep it bone straight. trying to would sacrifice her length.

personally, i bun, so if there's a bit of wave, it's ok. i also cowash 3-7 times a week, so if i want it straight, i can wrap it the next day.
however, i prefer to keep it moisturized with water, so i prefer the bun.

as for the roots, i'm 15 wks post and have been applying oil (jbco, coconut) directly to my ng. this way, whenever i moisturize with water, they stay soft.

This is true, but isn't that the whole purpose of sealing with oil after moisturizing?

Sealing with oil may not be enough. I find that while my hair is wet, I need to add a water-based leave-in conditioner, and then seal with oil for my hair to remain properly moisturized after it dries.

When you use just water and then seal with oil, does your hair still feel soft and moisturized after it is fully dry? The answer to this question will tell you if what you are doing is working for your hair.

This is a possibility. I am tex-laxed, so it does not matter if my roots are fully shrunken when they dry. The disparity between the two textures can be perceived by the naked eye, but the is not so drastic that it bothers me. However, if you have bone straight hair, the difference between the straight ends and tightly-curled new growth might be very obvious if you wash and go. Pulling the roots tightly so that they dry straight is one option, but that might lead to breakage. Roller setting to stretch the roots is another option, although that can also lead to breakage. A third option is flat ironing the roots, although...you guessed it: that too can definitely lead to breakage. Rather than trying to make the undergrowth match the straight hair, I would suggest braid-outs to crinkle the straight hair so that it can match the undergrowth.

Does not work for me - sometimes I use a spray bottle that has something mixed in with water, but it's usually just because I feel to have water on my head without actually washing. Otherwise, I need product to moisturize.
