Is using Porosity Control each wash too much?

My hair was doing fine till I visited NC (I live in Miami Beach) and kept my same regimen which is just wash and go right now. Needless to say my hair went into some kind of shock that I'm still trying to rectify. Deep conditioning helps and I'm a fine-haired natural so protein is essential.

What I've noticed is that PC is now leaving my hair sometimes super tangly and dry when I use it. Sometimes it's ok and sometimes not. Before i went to NC, I used porosity control with every wash. Do fine haired-naturals need to leave it in less or not use every time?

I also need great styles every day. For my new job, my hair HAS to look good and when I wake up, my hair is usually smushed. HELP :)

I was wondering this as well. I'm relaxed, but would like to know. I am forever the pj unfortunately. So, I have FPS, ACV, Nexxus Ensure and PC. I should take the Nexxus Ensure back since I haven't used it. I figure which ever one gives me the best results is what I will stick with.

I'm not sure if PC is making my cuticles close even tighter. At first it was amazing but now I'm not too sure. I really need to get my hair back on track because I was doing so well.

I use PC once a month, I don't use it weekly. I blend it with My moisturizing conditioner!

Did you try to clarify your hair, maybe it is a build up. I only use the PC after I clarify. I clarify monthly (last Friday/Saturday out of the week) then I also use my Heavy Protein then PC & DC. I definitely feel a difference.

Once a month I do the works throughout the rest of the weeks I try to Keep it very simple. Meaning Shampoo and DC. Protein as needed. Trust My hair loves protein, but I am weening off. LOL!

When in doubt OP, clarify. I find that PC responds well to my clarified hair. Today I clarified my hair first, then I added PC to my DC'ed hair just before I rinsed it out. I only left it mixed in with the DC for about a minute or two, then washed it out with cool water. My hair detangled like a breeze.

By the way, my hair is fine and I have 12 months of new growth on my head right now.

My hair loves protein too so I'm having a hard time finding my moisture/protein balance. What kind of clarifying shampoo do you use?

Thank you! :) What kind of clarifying shampoo do you use? I also color my hair but I don't care about the color right now. Color can always be re-done. And I've been thinking about laying off till my hair gets back to the business.

PC is used to close the cuticle so that you retain moisture

At some point your cuticles need to open enough to allow moisture in....it could be that case that your overuse of PC isnt allowing sufficient moisture into your hair strands.

You should stop using PC for a few weeks and continue with your usuall wash and DC process and your dryness should stop

I abused PC in the begining and like other posters stated I now use it every month or so as I feel that my hair needs it.

I don't think using PC at every wash is too much. I've been doing it for years and my hair loves PC. So I figure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

I use either Roux PC ph. 4.5, or a porosity control conditioning treatment as a Final Rinse after DC'ing Heat to Flatten/Close/Seal the Cuticle and Lock in Moisture.:yep:

I am currently using French Perm Stablizer Plus with a ph of 2.0. I also use Nexxus Ensure Acidifying Rinse, which is 3.0.:yep:

I try to Always use it according to the Directions. 30 seconds to 1 minute. (if I get busy) 3-5 Max.:look:

I mostly but not always, use natural clarifying poos and yesterday I used Elucence Clarifying Shampoo. I alternate it between Aubrey Organics Green Tea Clarifying poo, Beauty Without Cruelty Rosemary Shampoo, Creme Of Nature Clarifying poo and Mizani Purifyl Cleansing poo.

I don't think you should return nexxus ensure; it has a lower ph than PC which is even better, because the Ph of water is 7 so it raises the pH a little after you rinse. :yep:

So Sharifeh, how in the world am I going to incorporate all these products in my regimen. Ive narrowed down my weekly shampoos and conditioners. Would having all 3 of these be beneficial to have?

Oh sorry! I didn't see that you had French Perm Stabilizer as well. IDare says it has a ph of 2.0 so I guess you can return nexxus ensure if you really want to narrow down. :giggle: sorry
I figured since the different products have different pH levels you can see which one works best for you.

Are you relaxed or natural? Is your hair fine or thick?

I'm a relaxed 4something. I have to say my hair has thrived from the state it was in 6 months ago, but I have found my staple products,I've been stretching relaxers, rollersetting faithfully, flat ironing less after rollersetting, bunning more specially at the end of the stretch, etc, so the efficacy of the use of PC is kind of lost among all that. What I mean to say is, using PC every wash hasn't affected my hair at all.

Ladies, thank you for all your responses. I wanted to share that I needed to CLARIFY my hair! Now I continue to use PC with every wash and I'm back on track. Thank you very much for all your help!!
