I ordered it only 4 days ago and was surprised and happy to get it today. I just couldn't see how I could dust the back of my hair (I do the twist technique) the way I do the front which seems so much healthier than the back. There is a section in the back that seems so coarse and is always getting tangled. I finally realized that it must be damaged and split in that area.

There is very little hair in the collection receptacle and those pieces are NO LONGER than 1/4 - 1/8 inch.

Just thought I'd let those of you know who want to invest in this machine.

The silk drops they give you with it are pretty good too....reminds me of Chi Silk Infusion with a pleasant Rose scent.

Thanks for the review!
I've been looking at that contraption for quite a while. I use the twist method too, and you're right..the back the head is impossible without a certain amount of length. :wallbash:

Yea I bought one back in '03. It worked really great! You just have to make sure those blades are sharp or its a bust and will make your ends look worse (I heard the newer ones come with extra blades now?). I was thinking about buying another one. I let one of my friends use it and it was returned not so good condition. *rolls eyes* I also get tired of manually dusting my hair.

ETA: Your hair looks cute by the way! Did you order yours from the main website or from somewhere else?

whats the site to purchase this? I just bought some professional scissors to do my own ends. I will take them back and purchase this.

Is there a chance it could thin out your hair after using it for a while due to the circulation of the blades?

I've thought about purchasing this in the past, but I passed because I saw some bad reviews. I may have to revisit this. The PJ in me says that everything is ok now. :lachen: This may be the final nail in the coffin for my scissors happy tendencies. :yay:

Ok. It's a bit expensive, i'm transitioning, and I feel this would be perfect. I just checked the website, who has it and can tell me more....

Thanks for this review. I actually bought one earlier this week. I needed something to help me dust my ends, since I've vowed to leave stylists alone in 2010.

I would keep the scissors though, it's always a good idea to have some nice sharp scissors dedicated for your hair only.

The website is Splitender.com

Interesting! Here's a couple tutorials for anyone that hasn't heard of this before, like myself:

Thanks Sheba! I was thinking split ender? what's that?

OMGGG!!! that looks soo handy!!! I think i might buy one later in my hair journey. It's a little pricey, but I will definitely plan towards it. It might be my 2 year relaxer free anniversary present to myself :yep: thanks for sharing, OP!

im so excited about never having to manually trim splits EVER again. :lachen:

i brought one a few years ago and only used it twice...it still sit in the cabinet... i'm going to revisit this device.

Any reviews from the 4-something natural ladies? Doe you hair have to be bone straight or is 'kinky straight' fine? I don't even own a flat iron so I would be working with a soft bonnet and a blowdryer

ETA: I did a search for more info on this product and found a youtube video with a method that basically accomplishes the same thing. It might be good for those who don't want to straighten their hair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3C0ndGIZpg

Anybody seen this in stores yet? Usually those little "seen it on TV" things end up in walgreens or family dollar.

Well when they first came out Rite Aid use to carry them for 39.99! I haven't seen one in their store in years. Maybe try Meijers they carry a lot of the seen on tv stuff.

Just what I need! I too struggle trying to trim the back of my hair not being able to see it well enough!! It seems like it would be kinda tedious if done correctly especially for someone with thick hair like me. I'll probably order this next week.

I wanted to try this a while back but after reading tons of reviews, I ran across a customer that said she felt it was clipping unnecessary hair, so that turned me off. I hope that's not the case though because I'm experiencing healthy hair in the front and crap hair in the back :(

This is a good question! Anybody have a bad experience with the split ender?

I purchased one of these years ago when they first came out. It did not work well for me at all. It gave me more split ends. At the time I did not know about the importance of having the blades you trim your hair with be super sharp. Knowing what I know now I am sure the problem was with the dullness of the Blade. If they have fixed that problem it is probably a good tool to have.

It is not like doing a search and destroy. The device does not isolate the split ends only. It works by funneling the ends of individual strands of hair thorugh a chamber where they can be cut. So it is going to cut 1/4 inch of hair off of every end that pops up when the hair passes through the chamber, if that makes sense. Some of those ends will be split ends, some of them will not be. It is no different than dusting in that respect. I know that when i dust some of the hairs that raise when I run them through my fingers are not split ends, they are just shorter than the rest of my hair.

I really want this thing since I've vow'd not to trim my hair as much. I do Traycee's dusting method and it works extremely well, just time consuming for me. Probably take me two weeks to do a thorough job on my whole head.

I'm sure you will be clipping unnecessary hair because there is no way the machine could know which hair's are split. I have no problem with clipping good hair's though, it's not that much and I feel it gives them a fresh healthy start.
